Genn speaking about change and its challenges, the song playing from 1:00 onward is a cataclysm song called "Nothing has changed". A beautiful piece, if you're wondering it plays in the burned parts of mt. hyjal.
@MaxBurtDrums8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much - been desperately trying to find that track since I was reminded of it in this cutscene, it feels so nostalgic to me. It's not listed on the official Cata soundtrack so I had no idea what it was called. Awesome to see the cinematic directors make that connection with this scene and that Cata track.

About damn time they adressed Genn's neglectfulness of Tess. Ever since Liam died, Genn has been so preocupied with trying to treat Anduin like his own son that he completely forgot about his other still living child and the fact that he needed to prepare her for her ascension on the throne. I understand that Genn had a lot of trauma in the aftermath of Liam's death, but he got so obsessed with vengeance that it was straining his relationship with his daughter who needed him most.

Never really cared much for Tess to be honest, she seems not very likeable.

Glenn’s obsession with revenge often bordered on the insane and cost a lot of good people their lives in both the Horde and the Alliance, so him giving up the throne is truly an all-round good thing. Tess is much more level-headed.
@Vahki1008 ай бұрын
@@Ultimaton100 You'd want revenge too if your child was murdered, your people were dislodged out of their home and various other calamities befell you. It's time we stop ignoring these things. Modern WoW is all about "don't hold grudges" but that's an empty and hollow message in a world of constant death and war. You don't hold a grudge when someone eats your hot dog, you definitely hold a grudge when someone kills your family and steals your home. The Forsaken have so much blood on their hands they can open a blood bank. You can't just sweep these things under the rug (which is what modern WoW is all about btw) and pretend suddenly everyone likes each other and we're all buddies. That's why I don't want Tess. Yet another yesman to this idiotic mindset. She doesn't put Gilneas first and foremost.

@@Vahki100I never said Genn had no reason to be angry, my point is the way he went about dealing with his pain only caused more senseless death and destruction. The families of those who’ve died because of him would be justified seeking revenge on him and his kin, by your logic. An endless cycle. Furthermore, and this is no doubt difficult for fans of his like you obviously to hear, but Genn has never put Gilneas first or shown much care for the Alliance as a whole. It was always about what *he* wanted. He literally walled off the outside world and condemned his people to a self-imposed exile simply because he had political disputes with his allies after the Second War. He waged war on his own people when some of them refused to stay isolated forever. He led many Alliance soldiers to their deaths in violation of a peace treaty all to pursue his vengeance against Sylvanas in Stormheim, and it was all for naught in the end. He led yet another Alliance expedition to ruin at Nazjatar, all in pursuit of Sylvanas’ No. 2. who eluded him quite handily. Lastly, I feel it necessary to point out the Alliance has a higher count of atrocities, attempted atrocities, and even outright war crimes overall, including against the Forsaken. The Horde has been expected to sweep all that under the rug and move on ever since Cataclysm.

I found the quest-chain pretty underwhelming. The Forsaken help you so little that really, it didn’t justify their presence. I could have seen Calia being there just to show support, though. And the Alliance “forces” seemed to amount to like 20 people. Where were Darius & Lorna Crowley taking back their home? Where were the other prominent worgen characters? Hyping this as a big patch feature for a series of quests that could be completed in 30 minutes is a joke. That said, this cutscene is beautiful. I always saw Genn stepping aside to let Tess take the throne, I just wish it had come at the end of something a little more meaningful.

It is pretty much what to expect, similar to the reclaiming of Lordaeron recently. This was never meant to be a huge event, but a set up for future changes in the area. And a way to bring the Forsaken and Gilneans together. It makes sense that Calia and Lilian were the ones to help out. Calian knew the Greymanes before both had changed, and Lilian knows the Scarlet Crusaders. Though I wonder what the rest of the Desolate Council thought about this. It is stated in a comment that the military of the Forsaken acted as a distraction to draw the Scarlet Crusaders away, allowing the small force to infiltrate the Gilnean capital and take out the Crusade's leader. I imagine the bulk of the Alliance forces were also working 'off screen' to retake the rest of the country. It seems small scale, because we the players weren't involved in the big action, just the important part. It could have been bigger sure... But this is just a relatively minor event setting up future changes, at the end of the expansion. This is the part where small updates are made to wrap up old story lines and prepare for ones in the new expansion. This is event pretty much is what we should have expected. Pretty much what I was expecting.
@Resi1ience8 ай бұрын
@@nekoali2 The problem with that is, I doubt the Alliance can actually afford to participate in such a large-scale takeover. If the Crusade is big enough to conquer an entire nation, they're big enough that the absolutely decimated Alliance military probably shouldn't be able to defeat them. The forsaken army draws the Crusade's attention and baits them around for a bit - sure. But then, once the Crusade either catch and kill them, or lose them... they'll just come back to the city and take it right back.

Is there a new voice actor for Genn? It's good if he abdicates. Because as he says, he can't really change. He once betrayed the Alliance, was angry when Varian didn't want to accept the Worgen and has always failed at everything he wanted to do. And in all his grief for his son, he has forgotten that he still has a child. Even if the child is "only" a girl (and as you can see from many of the comments, many people have a problem with strong women, how pathetic). But he's no different than Magni was.

I'd have to say I like the cutscene but was overall disappointed. I don't know why but I had so many ideas of "more" for the retaking of gilneas, especially since they had it behind encryptions. I was hoping more along the lines of something between a mix of the later Suramar chains and Isle of Thunder. Was thinking it'd be one of those things where the opening week was just us setting a foothold on the outskirts of Gilneas and building a outpost or something with which to strike, then over the next few weeks getting closer and closer to the main city and eventually taking it all back. Was hoping there'd be like unique treasures to find everywhere, rare spawns and maybe a world boss or mini-dungeon/raid to end it all out. Just something to give us another questing hub than just Amirdrassil, as sadly I'm already tiring of that place. Also with the transmog we got its got me wishing that WoW would be like a few other MMORPG's I've played where you have "combat gear/mog" and "city mog", as while that new Gilnean set looks dapper I don't see any of my toons, including my Worgen, using that as their mog. I mean they now have the professions gear we wear when gathering/crafting, it'd be awesome of when we're just chilling in a Inn or a safe city we have the option of wearing "civvies"......

Liam had like 2 minutes of character development, back in cata, if you played the worgen starting zone. I would not say he was a good character. pretty generic dark fantasy crownprince stuff. Tess on the flipside was there and in stories since and in Legion and in BfA, filling out her repertoire as "the princess that gets overlooked" (to the point she actually uses stealth), actually wants to become worgen herself, proves she understands the worgen, etc. Tess is a well built up character imo.

If Tess were to be the new leader of the Gilneas, then she needs to become a Worgen in the not very far future. Genn himself said it the best: "Our curse is also our greatest gift." Being a Worgen but also a Human is what defines the Gilneans. As the future queen she has to understand the way we Gilneans master our ferocity

I'm kind of curious to see why Blizz are mixing up the leaders for the Alliance. Like the Night Elf one makes more sense, Tyrande and Malfurion have pretty much been getting railed by the lore department since BFA so understandable they want to have time for themselves - and Shandris has had a ton of spotlight recently. But the Worgen/Gilneas leader switching over to Tess and Genn passing his titles to her feels a bit meh, probably could of made more sense with a bit more character development and switching her over to leader after War Within. Unless the intent is to remove all the main characters from their duty so they are free to do whatever with them in this trilogy they are creating
