Growing up in those days was awesome. I'm a Ford guy but MOPAR was still making muscle cars in 1974 while everyone else was bailing out due to fuel embargo of 1973 by OPEC. For that they will forever have my respect.

Someone hopped this one up nicely. Higher stall converter, probably some decent engine mods, a shift kit and geared nice. She pulls nice and strong, you can hear it.

That 400 is a vastly underrated motor. I had one in a 73 charger. I put on a larger Carburetor and headers but even in those years it pulled strong and had gobs of torque. It was basically a stroked 383. They took the 383 block in 72 and gave it a longer stroke so it’s pretty much the same engine.
@1967davethewave3 жыл бұрын
It's actually a bored out 383, The 400 had the largest bore of any Mopar engine, even larger than the 440 but the same stroke as the 383. It is a great motor after not getting much love for most of it's life.

I live in Quebec city (with salt on the roads, cold etc.). A guy in the neighbourhood has had one of these for at least 25 years now. While growing up I kept seeing it on the road here and there from time to time. 5 or 10 years ago other than looking cool it was no big deal but now when I see it I'm thinking to myself wow I can't believe it's still running. I must point out that it looks quite rough and seems to have never been restored, just maintained. That's amazing. Love the smell too when I get to drive nearby, it smells just like my dad's boat when I was a kid. I don't care about those brain cells dying, it's worth it so much. Good luck with the sell.

I had a 73 back in the 80's with the 400 . i put an edelbrock streetmaster manifold on it and kept the thermoquad . I also put a cheap set of blackjack headers on it with hush thrush mufflers . it sounded great and was a lot if fun for being a smog engine . i would love to find another one .

Sounds like the steering box has been over adjusted to compensate for its wear. If left like that it will burn up the worm gear. I have a box in stock for that car. While servicing the steering box it’s a good time to drill & tap a hole in the steering coupler to add a grease fitting. Just be sure to place it where it won’t hit the exhaust. Then you can add grease to the coupler as necessary.

Nick, you said that when you looked under the hood you saw 2 horns. Man, that is so wrong and messed up. A true "Roadrunner" only has ONE horn. And that horn is painted PURPLE and it has a "Roadrunner" decal on it A real Roadrunner horn has that distinctive "Beep" sound and they are really loud. Yup, you hit the horn button twice quickly to get the "BEEP BEEP" that they are famous for. Either the car is a clone, or someone wanted the original horn for themselves and or sold it for big $$ Money! They do produce aftermarket horns, but I can hear a difference in them. Maybe it's just me.
