I had a 1986 monte carlo ss and it always had the check engine light on but ran really well except it was the typical underpowered chevrolet with the 5.0L 305 engine .😊😊😊

Ahhh... the '80s Camaro IROC Z-28... I was in my 20s when this car came out....EVERYONE had them back then, they were certainly HOT!!! My Buddy had a BRAND NEW 1987 IROC...I owned a 1968 Buick Special Deluxe 2dr with the 350 2bbl and a 2-speed automatic with only 52K on the motor at the time, and I also had a 1968 327/275HP Malibu coupe ...We went to a concert in Rhode Island, and I took the Buick, and when we got up on the highway, my buddy thought he would be "all that" and FLOORED IT in his new IROC... I punched it it my Buick, and I just went SAILING past him.... his MOUTH JUST DROPPED OPEN....later, he said " I spent all this money on this new car, and you BEAT me with that old BUICK!!!" We laughed a lot about it...Brings back the memories...Thanks again, Nick!!!

Lol. I would wait for a good snowfall, then drive it down the road at about 35 mph, yank the steering wheel hard to one side, and slide down the road sideways. Eventually I would slide off into a snowbank. Just a little shifting reverse n' forward and this Camaro would dig itself out.

Check engine light is on because the cat has been removed, no front air dam, no front under spoiler, no trans air deflect, that is all the air intake. I have built many of these probably get 10 grand for it.

This was the better optioned IROC-Z with the 350. Even though the engine was only 45 cubic inches bigger it was quite a bit faster than its little brother the 5.0L

Looks like the 1LE Option Package. Yeah, hate those check engine lights on 3rd Gen Camaros. Tuned Port Injection motors went from a Mass Airflow (MAF) to a Mass Air Pressure (MAP) sensor from ‘85 to ‘90, while the Fox Body 5.0 Mustangs went the opposite way. MAF equipped batch fire EFI systems are easier to put larger injectors on without buying a new OBD II chip. Most likely it’s the O2 sensor or the MAP sensor.

1LE's didn't have a/c, and had an aluminum driveshaft, this one has surface rust although it could be corrosion. gosh I wish i could get my hands on one some day. Fox Body breakfast, mmm!

The tpi motors were maf from 85-89’ they went to speed density in 1990,which gave the engines 5 more hp.

First part of many to come off of that model, they were at just the right height to break open if going over a speed bump at speed, often destroying the torque converter. TC itself could hit pavement without destroying it.

@@danielfair4675 I know that , but with the higher performance gear (g92) t tops were not available for the 350 auto or the 305/5speed they are hardtop cars only with g92… all t top cars with 305/350 are 2:77 gears…you could get tops with the 350 for 87’,88&89 only… with the redesigned dash and drivers airbag for 1990 the car was over the weight restrictions so t tops with 350 became unavailable and all cars were hardtop from 90-92 , but now included g92 , kc4 oil cooler , j65 4 wheel disk brakes and n10 dual cats… all mandatory now… the 305 5 speed ( only ) cars got dual cats as well and g92 goodies… the 305 5 speed only was 15 hp less than the 350… in 5 speed trim only ( the engine got the 350 cam). The 305 auto cars were only 210hp and didn’t get dual cats or g92…a lot of weird order combos on 3rd gens and or restrictions…

Hard top is rare and desirable as the T-tops leaked horribly. Rainy day i had a towel on my lap. Lots of build quality issues as well. 245 HP wasn't very impressive. Brakes were mediocre. Interior would fall apart and the rattles from the dash were irritating. It did get great mileage for the time.

No they weren’t …they topped out around 22k if it was the convertible…this cars was most likely 18,700 ish. It had the delco Bose system as you can see the cover in back that someone tore out the speakers and put 6x9’s in their place, expensive option and the Bose radios gone …these cars were like 16,500 starting and then the option package #3 was 2645 the Bose was 800 the g92 gear was 100 (g92 cars are hardtop only)..they gave like 1000 off every car on the #3 option package so16500 +1645+800+100+515 destination charge =$19560

It would of if it was built Jan 1st 1989 and after n10 dual cats were mandatory it wasn’t something gm was doing to make your car faster…all cars with the 350 or 305 5/speed and g92 gear option had the dual cats… the 305 auto and convertible 305’s were single cat and smaller tubes 2.25 verses 2.75..
