@@Dji00 We are not talking about flying on a plane. We are talking strapping a plane engine to a car. Once the jet engine is lit there is very little control of things go SIDEWAYS. We are also talking about 220 mph in 3 seconds vs. 220 mph in 6 six seconds. If you understand anything about drag racing you understand that 3 more seconds is an eternity.

As far as I understand, you don't have to take the battery in the car. The turbine combustion is self-manteined. That means, once it starts, the only way to stop it is by turning off the turbine or sufering some kind of surge. Is this case, on the ground, it's very strange that a surge occurr unless the turbine it's not well tuned. So, once you start the engine, you can ditch the batteries and don't carry unnecesary weight on the car. Please, correct me if I am wrong. Greatings from Argentina.

Watching jet cars go down the track, even from up in the stands, is like standing in front of a speaker stack at a concert. You feel every pulse from the engine and the amount of heat that radiates from these things is insane. Jet cars were always some of my favorite cars to watch race. It’s been years since I’ve seen one run and now seeing this really makes me want to go and see some asap. Gonna have to go do some research now so I can get some tickets to the next race that comes to town.

I used to work on F15E Firghers and every now and then I would be a part of a burner run. Burner runs standing right near the aircraft are intense. When I was deployed they did burner runs much closer to everything and it would rock a lot of the buildings fairly near by.

I know it was a joke but for people who don't understand how turbines operate. Jet engines are temp limited. After the combustion chamber there's plenty of O² left in the air. Dumping fuel into the exhaust stream takes advantage of that excess O² to produce extra thrust. Nitrous would be of no benefit.

@@safetyfirstintexas i never stated it was a detriment I said it was no benefit. What I should have said was very little benefit. I feel the effect on air charge temp is overstated. I think the temp drop is somewhere around 80°F which gives you a 16% increase in air density. That is not insignificant but it's not the driving force behind NO² power gains. The real power comes from the fact that at high temp it breaks down and becomes a very strong oxidizer. More oxidizer means more fuel which means higher temps. Because the jet engine is already running near max temp there's just that little 80°F which is 5% of a J79 max TIT of 1600°F. So as I said it's no real benefit. Not near the power gains in piston engines. Plus with the amount of air and fuel ingested by a turbine you'd need a truck sized NO² tank.

The starter takes 36volts and draws about 350 amps. A portable battery bank to start it and it will run without batteries until shut down. So that will save wait in the car. I'm very excited to watch this project.... MORE POWER!!!!

At my old regional airline, an unmonitored hot start sent egt numbers over 1100 deg....celcius! This burned a hole out the top of the engine and cowling. As Larson probably told you, nothing with a turbine engine is done fast. I love The ElDiablo youre building (jetcamino is tame!) and think it will truly be a monster, Will exceed 200 in that quarter.
