I hate Auctions ..alot that I go too when I find something good usually have price drivers in the crowd that instantly drive the starting bid up within seconds .If you watch they will bid on everything and when the price gets higher they start fading out so they don't get stuck with the higher bid . Alot of auction car prices get driven up this way and the cars are not worth what they get purchased for . Price drivers suck.

Thats why it's good to go in and find a set price with what you're comfortable paying if you get it. If a cars worth $6k I at most will pay $4k and that would be if it's in perfect condition. Something thats worth $100k and the body is in good shape but it's a project, thinking around $25k- $30k

I think if you can pull out a spark plug and get an inspection camera in there if you can see the design of the top of the piston you'll have an idea of which motor you have. 4.8L has flat top pistons and likes to rev more than the 5.3L. Hope that helps.

@Bradley S. It likes it more because the 4.8L is the exact same as a 5.3L with a shorter stroke. So it's a great candidate for a budget turbo build with its low compression.

Most truck engines spend their time spoiling 1500 to 3000rpm and weren't intended to rev high all the time. They just seem to do it well naturally. Those factory truck intake manifold flows pretty good and really well if you get it ported.
