Great video comparing the respective systems! Thanks for posting! There isn't much information out there on these systems, so it is nice to see someone publicizing them. :)

Yeah seems like a really nice system but here in the USA no trucks we run tandem axle so it gives you better traction on our trucks

Friend, don't make me laugh, I was a mechanical engineer at Paccar, it's not comparable, the European system is much more efficient, as in practically everything... In this way, the traction is distributed, not only in the rear.
@terrellscaife24112 жыл бұрын
How could you say that European system is more reliable if you only got experience of European vehicles or trucks here in America I think about 15 years ago International introduced the Max force engine which was a re-branded man truck engine and that engine really hurt International’s reputation it had major problems with its EGR and emission systems they ended up getting sued over that engine I think it was Milan transport and also I’m not hearing good things about the paccar motor

What's a tandem axle? Never seen one of those on the old continent 🤷🤷

I don't understand why 4x2 truck with 3-axle semi trailer is so popular, it's not very good design in dump truck use. If truck's wheelbase is short and fifth wheel located high reversing uphill will cause truck to tilt under trailer. This means that extra weight from trailer goes over truck's front wheels, not over driven wheels, so driven wheels will have slipping problems and you can't reach difficult dumping areas. And when tipping load there is not much weight on driven wheels so you can easily get stuck. Long box also causes stability problems when tipping on uneven ground. So I prefer 5-axle dump truck with tandem drive (10x4) or 2-box transfer dump truck, in which you tip trailer's box with your truck.

its simply because of the payload and the fuel consumption. in most of EU countrys only 40 tons of gross weight are allowed. 10x4 configurations easily go up to like 17-18 tones in weight without load on it. most of these trucks have like 12.5-13.5 tons of weight. if u have a 6x4 configuration the fuel consumpton goes up by at least 1.5 or 2 liters and the empty weight of the truck also by like 700-800kg compared to a 4x2. i have driven both a 4x2 and a 6x4 config as a tipper with a trailer and the 4x2 was the easiest to work with especially because the 6x4 config pushes you straight forward on some muddy or gravel grounds even if u are stearing into a direction

@@Myrthx Ok, thanks for information. I didn't remember that 40 ton total weight limit is quite common in Europe, in Finland total weight limit is 76 tons with 9 axles (earlier 60 tons with 7 axles). So, you get 40 tons with 5 axles and the most efficient construction is 4x2 truck with 3-axle semitrailer, better than 6x4 truck with 2-axle semitrailer or 10x4 truck? And 40 ton limit means that full trailer is not very practical design, right?
@johnnyhun13 жыл бұрын
you havr 4 less tyre to worry about, less road toll to pay, better fuel consumption, and in EU 40 tonns is the max, and its maxed out with the 2 axle truck. Up North, in Norway, Sweden or Finnland 3 axles are better because of the traction in winter and 60 is the max up there
@radeee872 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyhun1 60 is not max up here like A77 told you. I drive a 68 ton combination with a 4 axle truck and a 4 axle trailer. a box-box type. It is the most practical if you have lots of gravel to deliver and short distances. With a semi you need much more space and and it does not tolerate un-even ground when tipping ( in the same way a 4-axle truck tolerates).
