They will run very well in cold weather once the engine has warmed up a few miles. If its a hot day they can get too hot especially with an iron head and higher compression pistons for example. You really seem to be getting the zen moment with her in the art of riding and knowing your bike, feeling her mood and feeling part of your bike as an extension of you. Its a beautiful machine and you will know so much more of those old bikes the more you ride and repair it. Its great seeing you younger riders learning the old ways of biking.

Well lan, you win, this is the best comment I’ve gotten all day!!! You are so right, my orange Flathead has put me through the ringer!!! She has thrown every problem you could throw at someone, as if she said you are NOT going to ride on me boy, until you learn to fix and adjust everything on me!!!! She has also has seized up on me while i was doing 60mph an hour on the highway!!! I’m lucky to be alive and lucky I kept her up on two wheels!!! That same night, I removed the engine, completely tore it down and even split the cases!! I found the bearings had seized and welded them selves into the crank pin!!! I bagged and tagged every nut and bolt from that engine, because I intended to rebuild the engine myself, that way i know it would be done right!! But than reality set in and I realized i did not have all the specialty machining tools necessary to do so. So I drove it out to a flat head restoration rebuilder in Ohio and had him rebuild my motor and then I put it back into the bike four weeks later. Your so right, i feel one with this bike, and it’s been an amazing journey!!! Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching. 👍🍺 SLICK

Well done. As you understand better the quirks and tempermental ways with old harleys they get better and better and more enjoyable. Loctite is also a really good thing against loosing parts. Threadlock is such a great invention as is electrical contact grease and wd40 especially with electrics by joe lucas prince of darkness and dodgy switches, rain. My headlight roller connection in the headlight would flicker on and off with vibration but you learn so much about basic mechanics. Thats where grandads were so good. They had no choice and always carried a toolkit on them.

The old bikes run and ride so differently to modern bikes and can take a lot to get used to. I had a BSA A10 and it ran 6v electrics and had magneto ignition. The steering damper needs turning as you go faster.

Awsome bikes , be careful riding thoes bikes at night , as we both know the lights suck. Someone makes 6V led bulbs for them , i just dont remember who. I never got a chance to try it out but it may be worth looking into . BE SAFE!!

You dont need to rev it. Use the tractor like low down torque and gently coax her into gear and acceleration.

That little bit of backfire when you roll off the throttle...is that a linkert thing, or a bit of a lean condition? I've heard other bikes do that as well, just wondering, great video as always Slick😊

A lean condition can certainly make the bike backfire, much like when you have an intake leak. Now if you talking about it backfiring when it was in the back yard, i was still in the process of fine tuning it. And at that point the bike is too rich. When im out on the road, im turning the high speed needle in clockwise, leaning the bike out, for a smooth acceleration and ride. It’ll backfire lean or rich!! 👍🍺
