After following a lead from one of you wonderful lot, I headed half way up the country to ride the new Himmy.

Very enjoyable test by a real person with no daft agenda. All singles I believe take a few thousand miles before they give the best and that in my experience also applies to royal Enfield brakes. Very nice family motorcycle shop too.

I had a lovely half hour with the guys at Smalley Cross a few weeks ago, and if they had a small cafe/refreshments area, I'd have spent a LOT more time there! When I can finally afford the cash payment for my bike, I'll be testing a few, around Matlock and my home town of Burton.

Other videos may have vistas, but I love the English countryside (hope to visit some day). Such pretty villages. And I love cloudy weather, dreary as it may be. The rain that follows, maybe not so much. I go off-road once in 4-6 months and that is probably stretching facts. Roads is where I do most of my actual riding. So, yeah, I absolutely loved this video.

The Peak District is certainly very picturesque to ride through, but not the most scenic. The North Yorkshire moors, 99% of Scotland, East coast of Yorkshire isn’t half bad, and where I live in Cornwall, some of the roads and scenery would blow your mind! And I can say that as a born and raised Derbyshire lad!

I would love some rainy weather rn instead of 115°F! Kuddos to you for riding a bike tippy toe, I don't feel comfortable doing that. I'm the same, not every RE model is a good fit. Loving my Meteor I got last year, riding it to work and around town.

Nice review Charlie, but methinks the Honda nc 750 ( from 2021 on) with its 800mm seat height might be the better/more relaxed option for both everyday riding/commuting- fab for touring too.

Well done for the realistic road test Charlie. The CF Moto 450 looks like it could be a good contender/deal and worth a test ride. One thing....check spares availability on them..I've got a Chinese electric cycle. Great bike BUT still waiting after 3 months + for a replacement battery! 👍

Thanks for mentioning the full tank handling. I’m 5’4” 29 inseam and had no trouble lifting it off the stand like everyone’s saying but the tank was only half full. Doubt an extra 5 litres will matter.

I am glad you have had a ride on the 450, we have some great roads up here in Derbyshire (& plenty of potholes)! I think the dealer should have suggested a couple of routes towards the A6 Matlock area. not sure on your budget range Charlie see if you can get a ride on a used V7 Moto Guzzi (nice low seat).

Great real world road test Charlie rain and all. Just looked at the Specs of the cfmoto and the Himalayan and the cfmoto has it on paper for sure. I love big singles personally, it seems that the Himalayan might benefit from a different sprocket set to give it more umph from the off it would also help the vibes (maybe).

Enjoyed that ... not sure anyone can really expect to 'love it' after a short test ride? always smile when someone rides a bike for the first time and go "ohhh boy I love this" and they are 10 mins in 😁 ... so many things go into having a love affair with a bike, I have had bikes that I rode and thought yes ... went off road mildly and couldn't wait to get off it ... or after a full days riding the seat is killing me, the rding position crippled me and yet in the first half hour I was already writing love notes to the dealership who sold it me. Now I just never expect to 'love a bike' ... had god knows how many ... I just set my expectations around 8 out of 10 and if it does most of what I want well then I set my mind to accept the small short comings ... still needs to make me smile when I walk back to it though 🤟great review though

I’m on the fence with the new Himalayan. I think it’s a very different bike to the 411, and where there are clearly advancements, it’s also lost elements that made the original so good. Personally, I reckon there’ll be lots of people rushing out and bagging the new Himalayan and then when the CFmoto arrives, will be regretting being so hasty. You’re definitely making the right decision by waiting and evaluating all the options.

@@restdayrider just watched you test of the Honda and Triumph. I’m so glad someone is being honest about the 400x, that Triumph is not an adventure bike and shouldn’t even be compared to the Himalayan. Thought I’d throw in another option for you - the Honda CB500x has remained pretty much unchanged since it launched, so there are plenty of good used ones out there, and you might be able to get one with the desirable extras you want. Then why not pick up a decent example and install the Rally Raid parts to make it the perfect mid-size adventure bike? And you might be able to do it for less than the CFmoto, which I think will be an excellent bike, but you won’t have to worry about Chinese build quality question marks or availability of spares. There’s loads of videos about Rally Raid CB’s on KZbin.

I had an himalayan 411 2018 for nearly 6 years, i did like it but wanted an upgrade after 1000s of miles. Waited for the himalayan 452......and waited.... And waited.... Got fed up waiting and started looking for something else and finally ended up with a benelli trk 502 road version!! What a bike, i love it more than i ever did the himalayan, you should try one with a seat hight of 800mm but it must be the road version, the x is too tall, too heavy, tubed tyres, not as nippy. It's got plenty of power throughout the whole rev range. Regards.

I'd just pop a little experience on the 502 (Non X version) I'm nearly 60 and not the strongest chap out there. I had a Benelli 502 in 2021/2022. It fell over twice in that time and it was VERY heavy to pick up. I replaced it with an Aprilia Tuareg 660 which has proved to be 40 kilos lighter and a LOT EASIER to pick up. 😁. The Benelli is very good value for money and super reliable, but it is heavy.

Well done for sorting this test ride. I am a bit worried about you being on tiptoes. Its interesting to hear your comments about vibrations. You are right about emission regulations affecting the sound. Have you thought about trying out a nearly new CBX 500 as a more affordable alternative to the NX 500? You might find that pulls as well , but more smoothly. (Noraly put an Acropovic on her CBX 500 and that made a difference)

A good review … real world first impressions. Fully agree about RE,they excelled at the hype and marketing but failed at the delivery literally ( yes I do know about the Red Sea issues) but there are people with orders for the tubeless shod bikes that still haven’t got a delivery date so I’m hearing. I cancelled my deposit as there was no certainty on delivery and then accessories add in first service and run in time and my trips were bring missed. Meanwhile we are being offered other bikes and test riding other bikes as you are. Tried the Triumph 400x at Nathan’s yesterday what a peach of an engine then there is the the Honda offerings and the cf moto everyone seems to now be waiting on. Shame RE have failed ( my opinion) I’m very happy to keep my 411 which by the sounds of it the 452 doesn’t seem to have evolved from as we were “told” Good Smalley cross got you on the bike. A decent dealer in my neck of the woods

I think the new bike sounds different due to the water cooling dampening down the noise a touch and the bike has a widen bore and shorter stroke unlike the old bikes longer stroke and thump. This shorter piston travel plus the water cooling and DOHC makes the engine produce more power at higher revs - in fact it revs a lot higher than the original which you found out. You like the Honda, which is a twin so you might enjoy the CFmoto MT450. Great video and honest first impressions.

The bit where you get on a bike and it makes you go Wow! (Honda for you so far) is the most important bit in making your decision. Forget specs, facts, price, snazzy paint etc etc. The wow bit is key.

I think that CF Moto Ibex 450 could be a surprise, with a 270degree crank it should give loads of character. Benellis range of 502 and 702 trks offer great value too and luggage thrown in, the Italians seem to love them if you look at the sales figures!

Whoa, that was weird, watching you ride my route to work! The large brick building with the clock tower, facing the roundabout as you left Breadsall, is Pektron where I used to work. If you'd had a bit more time it would have been nice to explore a bit of the Peak district, more scenic than the outskirts of Derby which is where you were riding... Still a great review though 👍 PS. I had to LOL when you said "Smal-ey". It's actually "Small-ey" (as in opposite of large) 🙃

Well, truth be told, she actually left that CB500X rather quickly, & switched to a lighter (& considerably taller btw) bike after her experience in SA, & is now riding a Honda 300 Rally. Her concern with the new Himmy pre-launch bike in India, if you recall, was video capture of the screen (she obviously never got her frequency settings on her cameras sorted) & the weight of the bike. Coming from her Honda, & considering the type of riding she's into now, I can understand her point. However, to be honest, she has plowed a considerable amount of money (I think she's put about 4-5000$) into aftermarket mods & upgrades into her Honda by now, to make it work to her liking. The new Himmy can be modded & upgraded aswell, & indications so far is, it's pretty easy to shave 20 Kg off the dry weight of that bike, which all of a sudden puts it in CRF300Rally territory, at a much lower cost than the upgrades to that Honda..🧐 Then you have other enticing mods that has begun tobe talked about, like opening up the airbox a bit, by drilling whole in the airbox cap,giving it a healthy boost in power & torque, while also boosting the intake sound.. Combining that with an alternative exhaust, & I'm guessing it will approach 50 Nm, & 50 Hk.. If you have reduced the weight to around 161 Kg aswell, I'd say that package is beginning to look VERY enticing. 🤪 & that's quite apart from the fact that a Honda CB500X/NX500 will never eaven remotely approach the offroad capabilities of the Himmy.. & by the looks of things, neither will the CF MOTO MT 450..🧐

All the uk test bikes seem to be the Hanle black for some reason! Saw one one last weekend for first time at my dealer, still waiting for my 2023 pre order kamet white one though! Getting lost shouldn't be an option, when the bike has phone connectivity and map use😂 Definitely not like the old one, that's for sure. I'll see what I think when I get mine.

Thank you for a good real-world review. This is how I (and most riders) ride. No wheelies, jumps and slides. I rode one too. Undeniably competent, but lacking the soul of the 411. (But what do i know?)😊

The rides up there (my mother-in-laws manor) are really nice to ride on but do prefer down here by the coast
