Love the design! :) Have you considered silencing the actuators, e.g. by covering them with bitumen mat? I'm in the process of planning to build my own motion platform, but hanging it from the ceiling, with the mechanism above and using counterweights, like in the elevators. Any tips would be appreciated!

Hello, the actuators are indeed not silent and there are ways to make them more silent but it's better to think of it from the beginning. I use headphones or something to listen to the game and ignore the sound.

I think when you make an upside down one, the mechanical design can be a lot more simple for example just using cable length from te ceiling, will be interesting to see.

good idea, but linear shaft motor would be more responsive for this kind of aplication

Maybe yes, but it was a school project and the point was to make some stuff myself and think about it and do calculations and keep the price low.

How did you interface with the odrives? via uart? or directly via usb?
@stijnsprojects3 жыл бұрын
Via USB, I will explain this in the next video where I do a complete overview of the whole project

@@stijnsprojects That would be awesome. I can get them to calibrate but they won't go into closed loop mode for some reason. 🤷♂️

What error message are you getting

That psu looks like its underpowered. What are the specs of that psu? Also you should set the lateral motion so you'd get some g forces when accelerating and braking 😉
@stijnsprojects3 жыл бұрын
That psu was temporary and it was not underpowered, never hit the current limit. Now i'm using 3 psu's you'ill see it in the next video about the project. Why do you think it's underpowered? Filters were not set corretly when making this video.

@@stijnsprojects Because it doesn't to output the little bumps in the road. Like its struggling with little fast movements. But that can also be a setting issue. I'm in the process of building one these myself and i'm planning on using 3x 1000w 24v 48amp psu's icm with 3 odrives and 6 140kv motors. Probably overkill but i rather have too much power than psu's shuting down du to overload issues.😅
@stijnsprojects3 жыл бұрын
Yes this was just a settings issue and yes 3x1000W is overkill but if you want to put that much money into it why not. Good luck with your project.

@@stijnsprojects The 1000w psu's cost 60 euro a piece so they are not that expensive. The entire rig is about 2k in parts. Its nearly a copy of silent chills design except the actuators i designed myself because i wanted to solve the noise problem. Lets hope it works 😅 I will post some videos soon. Goodluck with the project👍

This is epic! Did you build those actuators yourself? At first glance I thought they were pneumatic!?
@stijnsprojects3 жыл бұрын
I did build them myself, they are not pneumatic, they are made with a brushless motor and a ballscrew, the motor is controlled with an odrive, this makes it a closed loop system. There are links to the project in the description under the video. There is also another video on my channel about the building process.
