@linguosyntactico
@linguosyntactico 3 жыл бұрын
It didn't help that the sentence started out really slow, and then 씨는 was spoken super fast (relative to the rest of the sentence). The way I can (sometimes) tell is that 시 has a brief puff of air before the vowel starts whereas 씨 cuts to the vowel right away after the "sh" sound.
@trodat07
@trodat07 3 жыл бұрын
Many people seems to have the same problem with those two. As I already replied elsewhere, 'ㅅ' sounds like a rather soft 'Sh' while 'ㅆ' sounds like a plain 'S'.

I also found it difficult to differentiate but after listening to the pronunciation I came to know that 시 sounds more like ''shi'' and 씨 sounds more like plain ''c'' or the way you say ''see''

@pepperminteu
@pepperminteu 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can just leave it out. Sometimes you'll have to use one of them at the beginning to set the context that you're talking about yourself, but after that you can leave it out. Tho ofc there will be times when you'll really have to mention 저 or 나, especially when you think the sentence is too unclear without it.
@pepperminteu
@pepperminteu 3 жыл бұрын
Adding another comment to give an example: If you wanna say: I try my best to study Korean but I don't have a lot of free time. I plan to do better in the future though. You can say somnething like: 한국어 진짜 공부하고 싶은데, 자유시간 별로 없어서 못 해요. 그렇긴 하지만 앞으로 더 열심히 노력하려고 해요. You can completely do without 나 or 저 because the context is clear.
@arsematsegaye4036
@arsematsegaye4036 3 жыл бұрын
@@pepperminteu ohhh so if in the beginning I already use “저” to confirm I’m talking about myself i can just say the same sentence without “I” for example “ I went to the store, got cupcakes and also got bread” instead of “ I went to the store I got cupcakes and I also got bread” ?
@pepperminteu
@pepperminteu 3 жыл бұрын
@@arsematsegaye4036 yes exactly!! :) You can even skip the "I" in the first part of the sentence you gave You can just say, technically, "went to the store, got cupcakes and also bread" and it would still be clear that you're talking about yourself :)

I dont think this exercise is necessary for distinguishing sounds like P and T etc. These come natural to all foreigners. But the difference between bb and p or sshi and shi and all these Korean specific sounds is a whole nother story. So especially the consonants that have 3 versions and the vowels that dont exist in some other languages should be contrasted.

Hi guys! I have started to learn Korean recently and I need help tho :( why do I tend to hear the sound "b" when it's truly a "m" sound? For instance, I have heard the word "miyanada" / "miyan" / "miyane", which is supposed to mean "I'm sorry", in dramas and I used to hear and prononce it ""biyanada" / ""biyan" / ""biyane" until I actually watched the drama without the English subtitles. That's when I realized that the letter was truly an "m". Could someone explain the trigonometry behind this to me please :( ? (ps: this "phenomenon" also tend to happen with some other sounds but I don't remember right now). That is also why I got the seventh question wrong (I got most of the questions right tho)... Thank you
