2018 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid SHAWD: Drive Review

Great review. After driving my 2018 MDX Hybrid for 4 months I think this video review is Spot On. Button shifter does take getting use to. This MDX is super smooth with loads of power and a great ride. I use Android Auto for navigation and have found it is fairly straight forward just takes little time to get use to.

I like the new updated interior look. The push knob looks real clean and doesn't get in the way. Acura did a fantastic job of implementing a dual screen and no cluttering shift knob.

I have a 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid since March 2019 with +32,000 miles now. The interior isn't as upscale compared to the +22 MDXs; but, it is nice place to be and I like the real wood trim. The nice thing about the dual screen is everything you need is on either screen at a glance without digging into menus. A lot of folks complain about the push button shifter when almost every vehicle today has a version of an electronic "drive-by-wire" shifter. Acura just eliminated the part that sticks up for a cleaner center console design.

You didn't think to mention the horrendous navigation graphics? I could get used to the dual screen layout, but the 2002 nav display has got to go.

Thankfully Acura has a new system, but it's only on the newest rdx. They definitely need to get it on all their models

It's true...they are pretty bad. I have a TLX - the infotainment and its lack of modernism is probably the main reason I want a new car!

Decent styling and value, $60k is not abnormal in today’s vehicle dollar market and you are fully loaded, 3rd row seating with cubic cargo capacity. Many of the import sedans are in the same range (I know maybe apples to oranges)

Sam..I do like your "new" format of the videos...You talking to the camera more and less focus on "stars"..great job...I would recommend though you keep your summary screen at the end...Price/fuel/safety info was very handy. Overall I did the vehicle, especially the interior. The wood especially pops on camera, specifically on the part behind the cupholders. I do like the exterior although the wheels are meh...they seem a bit small and the black not my color...would rather see anthracite myself. Question...you didn't comment on the auto stop/start...does that "feature" occur on hybrids? Great review and glad to see you back.

Yes it does have auto start stop but it's expected with a hybrid. Unlike a traditional gas vehicle, you have electric motivation when the engine is off so its not a big issue.

The interior is a dated but I was able to look pass it since the driving dynamics are above average for a $60k 7 passenger SUV. If your looking for a mid tier or above luxury interior this car isnt for you. The 7speed DCT is amazing, torque vectoring does wonders and the hybrid power is emazing

Acura Addicted Buy a Loaded Chevy Equinox with a four cylinder. It may not be as exciting as this car, but it will save you money. If you are worried about reliability for the Chevy, buy an extended warranty! Of course you should buy what you want but some of these cars are getting way too expensive.

Rear electric motors shut off at 78 mph then you have a 249 horsepower suv.

The MDX hybrid system turn off at +84 mph. No tq vectoring, no regen braking, no EV battery recharging, and you just have the 3.0L V6 257hp.
