these will be intresting for sweden, as the 156 grain are in a weight class that makes it easier to reach what we call Klass 1, for hunting moose. Most klass 1 bullets are 156 or 160 round nose and BC on those tend to be bricks. Klass 1 states: 9 gram/140 grain 2700J or 10 gram/156 grain 2000J at 100 meters. Not that i have problem reaching that performance with 6,5 eld-x, SST etc, but these give alot more margin..

just tried some h 4831 sc today in mine . been using h 4350 topped with a 147 gn hornady eldm with great results but have had good luck with 4831 over the years with other guns . weather was a beautiful -10 in canada but shot a 4 shot group under a dime at 100 yds and another thing i noticed was my bullet group was about 2 inches higher than my 4350 loads . going to load these again and try them out at longer ranges !!!!

I don’t hunt but I use those for ELR. They were very consistent when shooting out to a mile same speed and elevation as the 200.20x Berger’s in my 308 but had more consistent hits with the 308 probably because of the weight

We think so similarly. I have a .260 Rem and chose Norma Brass, with the Norma 156 gn Oryx. Norma makes MRP and a Federal 210 Primer. The result is around 2600 FPS at max pressure. Please do consider that for Bear.

Good video. Shoot a 170gr Berger EOL out of a 1:10 twist 270 Winchester (Handloader Magazine did it). 2800fps out of a 22 inch barrel. It'll spank the 6.5 creed. It's running 1600fps at 1000 yards and drift 8 inches less than the CM.

I want to see a detailed comparison between this at the 130 grain Hybrid Tacticals from Berger. I picked the 130s a couple years ago before these 156s were available. They hit the sweet spot for me for velocity and energy in the Creedmoor platform. The numbers you're showing are pretty compelling though. I'm tempted to give them a try.

pretty awesome data, thanks for sharing. I currently don't have a 6.5 chambered rifle of any kind (only have a .270 Win and a Savage Model 110 Long Range Hunter with AccuFit in .300WSM on layaway), but one never knows what will come along in the future. Perhaps a 6.5 PRC would be next, this bullet should work rather well in that as well as the 6.5x284 Norma or the high velocity barrel burner in the 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum, maybe even in the 6.5 Grendel. Thanks again for sharing some data points about these. I only ever seen 147 as the highest grain in the 6.5.

Idk i guess more energy on target if you want to stay with Berger? I know it's a hunting bullet technically. But lower BC than the 147gr ELD-M and 153gr A TIP yet $22 more expensive than the ELD-M, but $23 cheaper than the A-Tip. It just seems to be berger is consistently compelled to retain their high pricing yet they aren't leading any more in the bullet industry. It's just not the same market it was 6-7 years ago. Don't get me wrong they have great consistency and shoot well. Though my hunting performance has been less than stellar from every berger hunting bullet i've used, i know plenty of hunters that have great success with them.

Will Sartin DONT forget the 150gr SMK which I have had great results with. Not a hunting bullet, but another heavy-for-caliber option that has a BC up there with the A-Tip.

Will Sartin you can't believe the BC's Hornady claims. They lean towards the really optimistic high numbers strictly for sales. Regarding using Berger bullets of any kind for hunting, I'd never do it. I started hunting in 1980 and all we had were simple cup and core bullets available in commercial ammo. Nosler partitions and Speer Grand Slams were for hand loaders in that era. We all witnessed bullets blowing up and cores separating from bullet jacket and low penetration when deer were hit at 100 yards or less. Once I could afford to load and use controlled expansion designs I never looked back. High BC's and fancy technical descriptions will sell bullets but realistically what's your average distance taking game? I use a 300 Rum set up in case I might need to make that super long shot at a huge buck across a quarter section of land, that's 800m so 875yds. Reality of hunting for decades with the same bunch of guys has shown me the average kill is 200yds or less! Your mileage may vary but once a good buck is spotted I always try to get closer or cut him off to close the distance to under 500 yards which is a chip shot for the RUM as long as the wind is light.

The Uintah Precision upper, I got my upper over a year ago, but Uintah Precision has upgraded the bolt gen II bolt. I don't if you have the old bolt in your upper Uintah Precision. Also, mines chambered in 6.5 CM 22" barrel.

So let's say you are hunting elk at 400 yards. The 135 Grain Berger 6.5 Cr hits with 1532 Ft-lbs of energy. This 156 Grain hits with 1645 Ft-lbs of energy. How significant is 113 Ft-lbs in bringing down a large animal? Makes me think I should be practicing for November in CO with the 156 Grain Berger Match Grade Ammunition.

Does Berger actually make 6.5mm bullets anymore? I can't remember the last time I saw Berger 6.5mm bullets in stock. Are the all of the bullets getting diverted to PRS guys with connections? It's the same thing with ADG brass. They claim to make 6.5 PRC brass yet the only guys I've seen with ADG 6.5 PRC brass are guys in the PRS world with $5k rifles.

Iv heard a lot of people complaining about “open tip match” style bullets, in magnum calibers...Tons of reports of very little penetration due to the bullet essentially blowing up on impact, and even worst story’s if you try to shoot through the shoulder. Probably better to be in the slower creedmoor.

Try RL 16 , you’ll get a bit more velocity than H4350. Standard deviations will be better as well.

Hello If you have the 6.5 prc , 156 gr Berger will deadly with adg brass and N565 powder, I just build one and shoot very accurate at 3035 FPS, N656 is better than H1000 for 6.5 prc, good luck !

Doz bot you must have crappy barrel. Ive shot thousands of rounds of RL 17 in 6.5 creed, with absoultely no problems other than normal wear. Actually i find it easier to clean. Maybe your a hoarder of 17 powder like me, and dont want people buying it. I actually started with RL 26, thats next for the 156 Berger. Got 30lbs of 26 and a healthy supply of 17. But hey, if you think it rots barrels.........

Since H4350 is so hard to find right now, have you found anything else (like reloader 17 perhaps) that shows promising accuracy results for 6.5 creedmoor? I'm using large rifle primer starline brass (which has been incredible) and Hornady 140 grain match hpbt projectiles.

Hey, like your videos. Question: What would you consider a proper distance for a given bullet from the barrel lands? I know that the proper headspace should be around 3 thousandth of an inch. So, is the round kinda floating into and back in the on the bolt face. What would be a decent method for setting land spacing? I know this will improve accuracy if done properly.

If you are talking about a bolt gun, 0.0015" of shoulder bump (headspace) will work. The general rule of thumb for to-lands seating depth is about 0.020" from the lands, but each load and rifle tends to like something different. Sometimes you can't get to the lands or nearby due to magazine length and excessive freebore on factory rifles...

Thanks for you info. Many moons ago, I use to shoot a Ruger M77 which finally became a real shooter in .223 with an average of between .5 to .75 inches at 100 yards. I would black the tip of the bullet (dummy round) and seat the bullet out just enough to touch the lands and then unchamber the round to see if the bullet actually touched the lands. This gave me my starting point for backing, or seating the round and recheck, after putting black on the round, until the bullet stopped touching the lands. I would measure the overall length and seat the bullet about another 2 thousandth of an inch. The rifle seemed to love that length of round and shot well after that. Of course there were other factors as well like primer, powder and bullet. A lot of work, but I had a great time working all these things out. Anyway, I am buying a Tika T3x Compact Tactical Rifle in 6.5mm Creedmore with a 22inch barrel with a ,1 × 8 × 24 Primary Arms ACCS to get back into shooting. I think this will be a nice combination for ranges from 100 to about 600 yards with 600. My hunting limit for deer will be no further than 200 yards. Target and varmits is around 600 due to limitation of scope. This is fine for me. Thanks for your feedback and info. I will apply it with the new rifle. Love watching your videos.

Check their website and try the twist rate calculator and see if your gun will stabilize them.without a ballistic calculator to verify, but the creedmoor and 260 are ballistic twins. So if it works in his gun you should be good.

My 2-cents for what it’s worth. The 6.5/300 is a great cartridge, obviously VERY fast, and in my accumark it is phenomenally accurate. But I will tell you this, it WILL destroy a barrel very quickly. It is a very hot, overbore cartridge, but I knew this going in to the caliber. I run guns in almost every 6.5mm cartridge you can find, and some that are wildcat only. The 6.5/300 I have will likely need a new barrel well before 1,000 rounds, in the 800 shot range honestly. But it’s a hunting gun for me so I’m not as worried as that will take me a decade to do with this setup. My 6.5/284 rifles which ARE my competition guns have barrels that usually last me 2-3yrs (2-3000rds) before they need to be replaced, and they only lose about 200fps to the 6.5/300, but use a LOT less powder. I think that if you’re looking for a hunting use only rifle, the 6.5/300 will serve you excellently, but if you’re building a precision rifle that will get shot more that 3-400rds a year, you should look at a less potent cartridge (6.5CM, 6.5PRC, 6.5/284).

Majority of hunters in sweden have the 6,5x55 and it has about 100 years in hunting.. also used ALOT for precision shooting (benchrest, shooting with diopter), the entire SIG STR 200 is built around that. sure, generaly a 66 or longer barrel are recommended but new rifles have more margin for pressure and 56CM like more perform great. Widely used for moose hunting but really shines in long range bird hunting etc..

All Berger "hunting bullets" are generally not a hunting bullet and are just target bullets with a deer printed on the box. They are thin jacketed and expand too rapidly and under-penetrate on medium-large game. I'm interested to see this bullet ground in half axially so we can see the thickness of the jacket and orientation of the core material. I guess it's my hunting ethic but I don't shoot anything that doesn't impact at 1200z1500 foot pounds. FPS at impact doesn't matter. If you don't have the bullet construction and terminal momentum to penetrate about 18" it's not probably an ethical hunting bullet.

I killed a Couse deer with a 156 burger at 550 yds out of my 6.5-300 wby mag muzzle velocity 2950 the deer was quartering away pretty hard snuck the bullet in behind the shoulder not hitting the shoulder but it took out 4 ribs and passed all the way through exiting through its throught it’s a great bullet and dose tremendous amounts of damage however the bullet dose come apart quickly as I said the core exited but the jacket and prices of the core broke a part starting about 1.5 inches in to the animal I recovered approximately 70 gr of the bullet out of the carcass so who knows how well it mushrooms however the shrapnel pieces did do large amounts of damage that being said I would have liked to see it stay together a little bit better especially in such a small animal as Couse deer are not much bigger than a German shepherd and it makes me curious as to what it would do in larger game animals

Unless things have changed....I don't consider the Berger "hunting" bullets to really be hunting bullets. Last I knew, the only difference between their match bullets and hunting bullets is the thickness of the jacket. Real, modern (i.e., the best available) hunting (and tactical) bullets are BONDED bullets; they mushroom appropriately, and the jacket doesn't separate from the lead. Sure, you can kill game with Berger hunting bullets -- or even Berger match bullets; way back in the day I killed plenty of deer with Sierra MatchKing bullets -- but I wouldn't shoot unless I could get an actual heart shot or head/upper neck shot. If you want to shoot game at long range (which you SHOULDN'T), IMO the only bullet to use is the Nosler accubond long range -- good mushrooming bonded bullets which are built to mushroom down to quite slow speeds (1300-1500 fps). Not gonna use a Berger bullet in the foreseeable future. Not unless they make a bonded bullet that a guy could put through a shoulder without a bullet splash. It's nice to see a heavier aerodynamic bullet coming to the 6.5 market, however.

That's the thing though it's only heavier closer to the 147 in BC than the 153 A-tip. I was expecting to pull up the specs on that bullet and see a .400 G7 or near about.

NO!! I LOVE the Grendel cartridge, but it will be way to long/heavy a bullet to get any decent velocity with the 6.5G if you’re looking for hunting. If you only care about tiny 100yd groups it would likely do very well. But for Grendel in common use, you’re best bet is to stay with bullets in the 130gr class or lower for hunting use or long range target work......

Have you taken any animals with Berger Bullets? Under expansion is not an issue I can assure you. They cause huge wounds.

G7 BCs are a better fit for high-bc bullets like these Berger 256 HPBT bullets. If you look at the G1 standard projectile (the reference by which G1 BCs are generated) they are suited towards flat base bullets...

If a .270, 6.5x55, 25-06, and a 243 Winchester can kill an elk a 6.5 creedmoor will as well. Shot placement and bullet construction is more critical than an extra .5mm and if they can hit their target with a creed and flinch with a 300+ wondermag the creed is the better choice. Knowing the limitation of the cartridge and the shooter are key. I wouldn't shoot beyond 400 yards at an elk with a 270 or a 6.5 creedmoor. In general I would be more comfortable taking quartering shots with a 7mm rem mag class round. While true elk and deer are not made of paper they are also not wearing armor. High velocity rounds with light bullets are more likely to create a shallow explosion. A 6.5mm 140gr + at a reasonable velocity of 2400-2000 fps will cause sufficient tissue damage and penitration.

@joe green At what yards does your 2400 to 2000 vol get you 140 + GRN bullets, ok maybe 375 YDS, now take a 300 mag or the like and 600 to 700 yards are now possible, keeping the range to to the max efective for cal will work but max yards may fall to less than half, use what you might, I will use the right tool to get the job done, the better the tool the better the job, a person may only have one riffle that says it all, or five now that is a biger tool box, If I should spend big money for a type of hunt then I use the best I have, max effective range is now key, now the bullet has to get the job done, to much energy could be bad, not enough energy also bad, so find your window and have good hunting. He might be talking about gel test, or dead deer test? Can these stabilize in 1-8 6.5 grendel? I'm pretty sure not work in 1-9 .264 WM. New carbon fiber deep throat 8.5 twist soon. 2900-3000 fps? Retumbo, 8133, RL26 should kill anything in North America.

Bergers are cup-and-draw bullets. Not suitable for big game, you’ll want to stick to bonded or all copper bullets. For hunting big game you’ll want to focus on ft lbs of energy to determine what the maximum distance a bullet can ethically kill an animal. For example an elk is 1800 ft lbs. Good data and information on the bullet.

That's interesting because an elk was killed this year with a 6.5cm at 1600 yards and it died where it stood. I just don't know where all these hunting statistics come from. You hear some amazing things on the internet.

1 shot kill? I call bs. At 1600 yards a 6.5 cm with 140 gr ELD-X has 654 inches of drop and 745 ft lbs of energy once it hits the target. Hornady says the minimum FPS for the ELD-X is 1600 fps. Your “shooter” is in the mid to low 1500. I can assure you who ever took that shot is not a hunter and has absolutely no respect for elk and should have his hunting license revoked. This whole fad of wanna be snipers taking ridiculous pot shots at living animals gives the whole hunting community a black eye. At 1600 yards there are variables that cannot be calculated and I can assure you that there was a lot more than 1 shot taken at that elk.

I mean, it was all over the hunting news, not sure what bullet. I saw a coyote drop where it stood after being shot with a 105 Amax at 1380 yards. Granted, a small animal but still. Also seen a cow elk drop where it stood after being shot at 700 yards with a 105 berger. The "experts" say this is unethical. Maybe. Maybe not. To each his own.

"Not suitable for big game?" Tell that to the black bears and whitetail deer I've shot with Berger bullets out of my .243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, .300 Win Mag and .300 Weatherby rifles. Those animals and many coyotes were shot with a variety of bullets ranging from the 85g VLD to the 135g Classic Hunter to the 190 and 210 VLDs. The animals all have one thing in common - they all died on the spot like they were struck by lightning.
