Hi Gavin. Good job. As a professional abatement shooter, I get opportunities for taking large numbers of critters from Ag fields. My day time rifle is a 6.5x47L and I shoot the 130 VLD Hunters at 2703 fps. I have taken railroad car loads with that bullet on 100 pound-class cervids. Mostly, they drop on the spot, 10-650 yards. On occasion, I have taken my .300 Mag with the 210VLD at 3025 fps. Interestingly, the shot outcomes are identical, and the meek penetration is similar between the two calibers despite 80 grain starting weight difference. Those bullets were not designed with weight retention in mind; Berger media freely admits this. Sort imperial statement based on a huge data base, nothing lives long once their lungs are “Jellified.”

I’ve been using this bullet in several 6.5 PRCs and have had excellent performance from 80-600 yards with deer and elk. Have not had any bullet failure and incredible terminal performance. Almost everything inside the thoracic cavity is jello. The ultimate deer cartridge and sufficient for elk. Thanks for the great content!!

No exit wound in any of them and all the energy dumped in the animal. Expecting the same from this. Would love to see this exact video with the 143 ELDX in 6.5 PRC and see how it compares. Yeah I dont see the appeal of guys using target bullets for hunting. They are not designed for it and have softer lead and thin jackets that tend to explode when hitting bigger bones. Even if they dont hit bone they still dont have good weight retention and cause a lot of bullet fragments and bloodshot meat. Especially today when we have things like the ABLR if your worried about velocity and the bullet not expanding.
@sgt84bravo402 жыл бұрын
@@Nick-sx6jm Actually, according to a buddy who works at Berger Bullets, the jackets on the target bullets are thicker than the ones on the hunting bullets. The hunting bullets are designed to create a massive temporary wound cavity in the vitals and expend all their energy within the game animal.

Why? 600 yards is too far in my opinion. Most hunters will never shoot that far. I think somewhere between 100 and 300 yards is the most interesting distance for most hunters. Also, you need to hit the gel block in the center to prevent the bullet from exiting at the sides, top or bottom of the block. How is he supposed to reliably hit the center of such a small target at 600 yards?

Shooting gel under 100 meters should be illegal

What I would like to know is where the lost weight of the bullet went to? was it lost in the first ten inches or spread over the whole 18 inches?

This doesn’t look great for an elk hunting bullet. I’d be curious to see what longer range testing shows. It had less penetration than the 147 ELDM and 143 ELDX at muzzle velocity out of a 6.5 creedmoor. The 150 Cx at range out of the 7 mag made this round look like childs play. Just as big temporary cavity with more penetration and retained weight. This would probably be a good deer round, but 18 inches of ballistics gel is not enough in my mind for an elk.

Your chart says "Bergara lists 2960 from a 26" (or something similar). I'm sure you mean "Berger".
