The Camry Hybrid is where most Toyota Hybrid fans will go if they need more room. The Corolla is oddly sized, actually smaller than the 11th gen Civic. So most folks will either go Prius or Camry on Hybrid side for car needs. I was amazed by how roomy the 11th gen Civic was compared to the Accord. I almost wonder if the Accord could be replaced by a 12th gen Civic.
@rightlanehog3151

@@sn4rl277 The new Camry Hybrid is a very fine car and the AWD LE is easily the best sedan value on the market. However that does not mean the Corolla should be left to stagnate especially when better, more competitive Corollas are already in production. As regards the Prius, it is very appealing to some while others would consider it an indulgent and utterly impractical offering.

It felt like people in the late 90s ringing-in the death of traditional retail due to online retail; they weren’t wrong, just way off on the timing and eventual adoption rate overall. All current Honda Hybrids work the same. They are serial hybrids. The layout of the motors doesn't matter. The traction motor powers the car all the time. The engine turns a generator that powers the traction motor and charges the battery. In certain situations at highway speeds the two motors can be clutched together effectively making the engine connected to the wheels. (in the CR-V there are two clutches, one for lower speeds and one for highway speeds). They call it an eCVT but it isn't a transmission at all. It is direct drive like an electric car. Older Honda hybrids would just wind up the engine when you hit the accelerator but I think they added the rpm changes to mimic shifts to make people more comfortable. I think they only do this in sport mode if the car has it. It is very convincing I've found. I've never driven any other hybrids but I have heard that sometimes they feel a little weird during transitions to different power delivery. Honda has done a remarkable job making these cars feel 'normal'.
@aspecreviews
@aspecreviews Күн бұрын
The serial hybrid concept seems very well suited to simulated gear changes, where you could click up and down through 6 or 7 predetermined relationships between engine speed and vehicle speed. The top predetermined ratio could even be just direct drive, and the ones below it would be using the serial hybrid setup.

A disadvantage of this is that not only does it not have a spare tire, unlike the sedan version, there physically isn’t enough space under the cargo floor to add your own compact spare tire.

Put it in your trunk? What is their reasoning for selling a car with no spare?
@Tractshun
@Tractshun Күн бұрын
@@MontegoBayTechTalk What trunk? It’s a hatchback. The cargo floor behind the rear seat it shorter on the hatchback than on the sedan. So, the space under the floor is physically too small to fit a spare tire. On the sedan, there is room for a spare tire under the trunk floor, but Honda elected to not provide a spare tire primarily to cut costs. If you ask them, they will say not providing a spare makes for a greener planet and you can just call a tow truck if you need a new tire in the middle of a road trip.
@Tractshun
@Tractshun Күн бұрын
The problem with roadside assistance is that they won’t have a tire on their truck either. So, they can only tow you to the dealer that will sell you a very overpriced replacement tire if they are even open at the time. You can have AAA tow you to an independent tire shop, but they may also be closed at the time you need them or may be out of stock in your tire size. So, plan on adding a few days in a motel during your holiday weekend road trip.

I live in an area that gets quite cold and I've never felt I needed heated seats, if it's cold out I'm already bundled up. But every time I get into a cold car I hate either waiting for the vents to warm up the steering wheel so I can touch it with my bare hands or having to put on gloves for the first few minutes of driving. What keeps me from wanting to actually buy one is the fact that dealers are charging nearly 33k (not including markups) on a vehicle that doesn’t offer lumbar support, rear AC vents or USB ports. What’s up with those wheels? They’re beautiful, don’t get me wrong… but 18-inchers when there’s no spare tire offered? I can see these being poor victims to potholes and rough roads. Cmon Honda!

I really like this car, but I would really like the option to buy a spare tire kit and maybe a cheaper LX trim with 16" rims with 60 profile tires than these 235/40/18 tires. FYI, the Prius' are available with spare tire kit at the parts department, but I don't know if there is enough space here.

Keep in mind, the Corolla uses Toyota's Gen-4 hybrid system - not their new Gen-5 - so it's very underpowered. The Corolla Cross Hybrid gets the updated Gen-5 system.

Yeah but it’s bigger, boatier, and has less features if you’re paying the same price (SE trim). Biggest deal breaker for me is the base level sound system in the SE camry, whereas the civic touring hybrid has the Bose, which isn’t great, but it’s decent.

Tan/black interior would go nicely with this sand dune paint. Question about the gas engine: when changing driving between faster and slower, accelerating, slowing down, does it mean that the gas engine turns on and off constantly or it's always on just engages to and disengages from the transmission?
@KirkKreifels

It acts mainly as a serial hybrid unless at highway speeds. So the engine really is used as a generator for city driving.

@aspecreviews
@aspecreviews Күн бұрын
@@jsz2619it turns on and off depending on your driving style, climate control use, how hard you're pushing the accelerator pedal at the moment, there are 100 variables going into whether the engine is on or off. If you're worried about engine wear, I have a 2001 Prius that has probably started and stopped 500,000 times, and it still runs perfectly with regular maintenance.
