Agree, the odd Crown sedans a miss. I never quite saw it as the "flagship" replacement for the Avalon that 'everyone' said it was. My prediction, this will outsell it by a good margin and should be the Crown standard bearer, with some adjustments for better/more expansive equipment, trim options - missing HUD (avail. on Venza), rear sunscreens, regular opening roof (even if at expense of rear fixed glass), reclining rear seats, more interior choices such as a light gray interior ("ash" in trad. Toyota-speak), CVT refinement, powertrain choice, spare tire if just a skinny donut, another color option or two, etc, can even see an off (back) road "lite" variant like everyone's doing - half inch more ground clearance and some modestly adventuring tires, etc.. Kirk may rightly say doing all or most of the above might threaten Lexus...if so, so be it - get Lexus to up its NX and RX game, both in need of major refreshes if not thorough overhaul. It's particularly glaring when what the company is doing is clearly holding back on features to not threaten another division, rather than just give its best product all around.

They removed so much from Venza, auto rain sensor, electric steering control, electric frost pano roof and Signia is less ground clearance, less fuel efficiency, heavier and slower than Venza 0-60. Toyota added safety sensor like one in Lexus face recognition sensor which most of people turn off and not using due to unnecessary annoying beep when computer see that you are not paying attention on the driving… is that why you increase 12k??? New look, real leather seat? Seriously?

I didn’t know it had previous gen system in it. That does sound kinda disappointing but hey, at least the fuel efficiency is in par with Toyota crown signia and just a bit higher than Highlander so that’s something. I think it can be possible to get 44 mpg on this suv on city as long as you’re an efficient driver.

Xc60 is smoother. Also that phev is fantastic but pricey. Toyota will have it beat for reliability surely. As for the Mazda, it far more fun to drive than the crowns, more interesting power trains too!

I am concerned about that low headlight and the Glass roof is quite dangerous in my view -- I would just prefer a standard retracting metal sunroof. My wife and I love this. Looks really good from most angles and love the interior and hybrid. we are cross shopping with the Tesla Y, RX and GX. Prefer the build quality and hybrid powertrain but man that Tesla is addictively fast and the tech is pretty cool. Literally everyone drives a Tesla where I live so also prefer something different like this. Really like Lexus but can’t stand the RX front design and the GX is too much of a gas guzzler (would consider waiting for the hybrid) but we also have a Sienna xse hybrid so GX might be overkill but just wish the Sienna was quieter…I’d totally upgrade the windows and add sound deadening aftermarket is someone offers it. Going off a tangent

Toyota shot themselves in the foot with this one. I had planned to replace my NX hybrid with the RX hybrid...but never liked the limited interior trim options and "too much" resemblance of a Toyota interior of the RX. This Crown has nearly all the same features (without that horrible heads up display of the RX) and has the camel leather seats I always wished Lexus had. Saving myself nearly $18k 😅😅

^^ This. Like their traditional and timeless light gray ("ash") leather. I had it on two Highlanders, two-tone with a nice "soft" black on the upper sections - everyone said what a classy interior. Long ago Acura had something called "eucalyptus" which was great, different and rich looking - kind of a medium light gray with a green tinge,..... but few sold, my theory mostly because hardly anyone knew about it, hardly advertised and few were ever on the showroom floor or lots for anyone to see.

Nice looking car, but given what this car can do $50K plus is unrealistic and a big ask for a small group of Toyota target market customers - unless they're trying to capture the middle ground between Toyota and Lexus customers?? It will struggle to be a volume seller. That said, $50K for this or $50-ish for the new 4Runner and $64K for a GX Premium?? If I was spending 50 I'd go further and get the 4runner or GX for all the extra capability - residuals should be better on the 4Runner and GX as well. Kirk, apart from the entry-level Corollas and Camry, will we ever see more new vehicles back in the $25 - $35K range?

This is an insane omission by Toyota to me. In Japan Crown has HUD and auto tilt/telescoping steering wheel too. This is so baffling since all of these Crowns are made at same facility. How difficult is it to swap the drivers module from right side to left side of the car for other regions?

Kirk: Let's be honest. Why are they limiting this vehicle? A) Crown is not selling in its first iteration here. B) They hope to commit a shortage and the dealers can mark them up to steal even more money. C) They fear this one won't sell like the first one and so they will be stuck. Now it's ultra expensive and junk that is completely unreliable. I have bought Toyota's for 4 decades and I must say they have given away all the good things and are quickly racing to beat Chrysler to the top of the junkiest car company. Toyota needs to wake up quick. They need to make about a half million Camry's this year and they also need to make a lot more Sienna's. It looks like the Tundra and Tacoma's are going to bankrupt them.

I see that to get the advanced technology package for 1865.00 the traffic jam assist requires a subscription after the trial. So Toyota wants me to pay monthly for a feature I have already bought? I don’t think so. If I buy it. I want to own it all. If I have to subscribe that needs to be on an opt out, with a subsequent reduction in the cost of this package. It’s like the length of the warranty. Warranty of a new car should be the same as the length of the loan, regardless of the years; If a brand or dealer says a product is worthy of a given price over time, then so should the warranty.
