and yet his suit was a shit, darth vader was a burdening coffin, limited mobility, and he was in constant pain every time. His life support system was literally exposed in his chest, and was designed to be succeptible to electricity (palpatine's power). He tried to cure himself through meditation and force healing, but then palpatine constantly exercised an oppressive dark force influence to prevent his healing. Also, vader was resorting to the dark side of the force to cure himself, not a very smart move since it was too difficult to make it cure and needed extreme concentration, something that he didn't have. He also wanted a better arnor, but it wouldnt be any reason for palpatine to purposedly choose a poor tech armor and poor tech medic droids for vader from the start if he would let him improve or change his armor in the future. Palpatine WANTED vader to be weak and in constant pain and struggle, so he didn't let vader switch to a better one, which would be wonderful for vader and, if he still decided to help his son in the final confrontation and turn back to the light side of the force, he could have survived and became a powerful jedi master once again, maybe even preventing the new order to exist.

Palpatine could have perhaps wanted Vader to be in constant pain, so that it reminds him of his hate towards Obi Wan and the Jedi Order, so he stays in the dark side. You think Vader would have turned to the light side earlier if he didnt feel his pain anymore?
@Nogdog9453 жыл бұрын
It also has been stated that the armor was purposely made very cumbersome and uncomfortable by Palpatine as punishment as were his prosthetic limbs. But the pain caused by the suit’s uncomfortableness fuels the dark side for him. And having to reinvent his style of combat to work around the limitations but also maximize the abilities of his suit he literally became one of the greatest duelist.
@angusrumplemeyer17913 жыл бұрын
I'm glad someone else knew about this. It was also said that the suit kept Vader from reaching his full power because the Emperor was fearful of that. They had better technology at the time but Emperor Palpatine purposely that antique technology into Vader just to hinder him.

@@angusrumplemeyer1791 I’m seeing a running theme with Palpatine and downgrading every bit of technological advancement in the empire including his own apprentice. How one's emotions should always be tempered by rationality. Anakin had fear because of his dreams which were vague, Palpatine used that fear to push him, and if Anakin had stopped and thought about it he would realize that Yoda was right when he said that the future was always changing and that the dream could have been only one possibility of what could come to pass.

Remember when Darth Vader was an imposing space samurai, who may have been able to travel in a vacuum, and the purpose of whose dehumanizing modifications, as seen in ESB, may have been to make him even more powerful, and not a burn survivor with a colostomy bag? Yeah, General Grievous got body modifications as his backstory later, but the main point is that some backstories are better left to the imagination. Beautiful work on the video, by the way, but l also love the RLM takes on the Expanded Universe materials in that they emphasize when an addition makes the universe seem smaller and less original instead.

A very well made video. Some of the subtitles had inaccurate translations but the graphics and the detail are excellent. Something I've always wondered - Palpatine saved Anakin's broken body and turned him into a cyborg, to serve as his "tank". (rpg terminology). What would have happened if Vader took some of his organic DNA and cloned it, and just made another healthy Anakin, free of Palpatine's influence and machinery? (If this was explored in a non-canon novel, I'm unaware of that.)

i got a book about his body that when obi wan first chatted to luke after yoda died he told luke that "he's more machine now that man" and also that he did NOT have leg stumps as he did in the movie revenge of the sith. also, according to return of the jedi after he throws the emperor down into the abyss you can clearly see (if you look closely that is) that half his spine from his brain half way down his back you can clearly see that it's ENTIRELY cybernetic. also in the empire strikes back when admiral piett enters vader's chamber you see his helmet being lowered onto his head ALONG WITH HIS MASK without any forcefield to hold any oxygen in place. ON A PERSONAL NOTE I HAVE STUDIED THESE 2 INCONSISTENCIES FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND I THINK GEORGE LUCAS SHOULD ADDRESS THEM.

You mad lad, you did it. Vader is a fascinating character and his story is one reason I love the prequels so much. (Yeah, you heard me, I love the prequels. Sue me). Parts of his skeleton are also covered with a layer of armour just to help support the massive weight of his suit. His legs are similarly reinforced for the same reason. The suit's weight forced him to retool his entire fighting style, as he could no longer perform the fast-paced, aggressive swordplay of Anakin Skywalker, and instead relied on a more defensive style with heavy swings when on the offensive. After-all, his control plate is highly vulnerable and needs to be protected during combat. As for humans reliance on technology, well we've been doing that for thousands of years. When people think of technology they think things like machines or mobile 'phones, but really even something as a simple campfire or animal skin clothing is technology in a sense. Humans are way past the point of being able to survive without it.
@Halfscreen3 жыл бұрын
You are right, I initially didn't like the prequels, but I feel it is still much better than the sequel. In addition, i think that is why primitive technology youtube channels are so popular.

A really well produced video, and fascinating also. I would be interested to know if all these details were conceived before the production of "A New Hope', or if they have been retrospectively engineered in to fit with the aesthetic design of the costume. In any event, the details have been thoughtfully introduced to conform with the real science of medical life support. Ten out of ten all round. I'm going to sub this channel as a mark of my appreciation for your excellent production.

Cool video. Thanks! I believe a better story would have been to have Vader sustain the BASIS of the injuries that we know so well from the original trilogy instead of turning him full-gimp at the end of Episode III. There were no concrete stories on the grapevine yet, but everyone knew that the 20 year "blank" between Episodes III and IV were going to be explored and would contain a LOT of Empire/Vader-centric material. Vader has always been and always will be the #1 character of Star Wars. He's the king. If you need to sell something Star Wars, you put his name and likeness on it, and the rest takes care of itself. If we have 20 years of Vader's life to work with, why do we need to make him 100% ambulatory from the get-go? The relationship between Vader and Sidious becomes MUCH more interesting and compelling if Vader has the ability to truly battle and potentially kill his master in the tradition of Bane's Rule Of Two. We can give him a less intense version of the injuries sustained on Mustafar while simultaneously setting up what the end result of his duel with Sidious down the road will be; beaten, broken, and two steps shy of General Grievous in the cybernetics department. How cool would it be to give Vader the ability to work on and upgrade his cybernetics himself? Slowly, and over time, he could create, test, and employ all SORTS of badass tech because he wouldn't be tied to a suit that was designed to keep him like an obedient lapdog. Let's head back to the lava banks for a re-shoot. I'd work it something like this: Let's have Vader hang back on the mining droid at the lava river for a bit instead of being goaded into a stupid jump-attack. This would have been an EXCELLENT opportunity for Vader to go into full detail regarding exactly HOW Obi-Wan had "failed him". Imagine Vader running down the entire "Christmas list" of Obi-Wan's shortcomings and failures not only with Anakin, but with other relationships in his life, relationships that he sacrificed in the name of the Jedi Code. Finally, I'd throw Qui Gon Jinn and Duchess Satine in his face and top it all off with how he and the rest of the "mighty and wise" Jedi Council sat on their hands for almost two decades while a Sith Lord no greater than arm's length from their faces operated with complete impunity: "And don't tell me that your Jedi Council "isn't perfect", Obi Wan". "I and every other being in the galaxy who have had their world turned upside down and their lives destroyed by the Jedi Council are VERY aware of your "imperfections". "I'm sure that my former Padawan sleeps like a baby every night, resting in the promise of the Jedi Council's imperfect ways". "The problem isn't your imperfection, Obi Wan". "The problem is that your Jedi Council has never been made to ANSWER for their imperfections". "Until now". "You may have the "high ground" Obi Wan, but I have the GALAXY". "And no matter where you run and hide, I WILL find you". "Do you feel him coming Obi Wan"? "If you leave now, you might make it off world and plot a jump to whatever outer rim, backwater cave you'll be living in until I eventually come to destroy you". Obi Wan realizes he is about to be at a MAJOR disadvantage, so he takes off like a bat out of hell with Vader now hot on his heels. Vader's wife is on that ship and there is no way in hell she's hitting the hyperlanes in the company of Kenobi. As they race out of the entryway and back to the landing platforms where the duel began, Vader draws deeply on his rage and anger, executing a force-enhanced jump intended to catch Kenobi from behind at the base of the Naboo cruiser's boarding ramp, and slicing through his spinal column thus ending the duel once and for all. But Kenobi hasn't survived a galactic war and more perilous episodes than he can count by ignoring the force. The force whispers instruction, and Kenobi dutifully obeys. Using the force to come to an almost complete stop, Obi Wan ignites his blade and raises it to a high guard just in time for his former apprentice and friend to catch 2, then 3 inches of blue-white plasma down the left side of his face from his eye to the base of his jaw, then down through his shoulder and into his left lung. Kenobi's 180 degree follow-through then relieves the Sith Lord of his legs at both knees. As Kenobi raises his blade to bring an end to what can only be described as the most painful and heartbreaking episode of his life, four clones(?) dressed in black armor of a design that he has never seen before fall from the sky on repel lines like a torrential downpour, firing their blaster rifles with a speed and precision that no clone could begin to match. Using the force to close the boarding ramp, Kenobi races to the cockpit to find an already primed and fired-up starship, shields engaged, with a VERY nervous protocol droid at the controls. Kenobi takes the controls, punches the engines, and races through atmosphere to starlight like a screaming banshee.

So not only did Vader become the next, and last Sith Lord, due to his cybernetics, he became the next General Grievous, as he was not much different in the extensive repair work. Palpatine corrected an earlier mistake with Grievous by making sure that Vader was much more dependent upon the technical support provided only by the Empire.

I still prefer the old canon version of how Vaders suit came to be. It was originally just a functional life support rig that, over the years, Vader fitted with armor and stylized bits to make it more intimidating. I believe his suit took shape during his yrs hunting down refugee Jedi...which is also, iirc, where he lost a few more limbs and sustained additional injuries, requiring even more prosthesis. In short...Vader was originally a creature who evolved over time into what we saw on the big screen. Then Lucas retconned all that by having Palpatine standing by with a ready-made bad guy suit to put his hapless new apprentice into...thus checking off the Instant Gratification box in his efforts to complete the last 50% of Anakins transition into Darth Vader in the final half hour of the prequel trilogy's runtime 🙄
