I wish he asked what the total cost was of setting this up... I'm going to guess it was in the 20-30 thousand dollar range. Maybe 40. Also, I wonder why he has multiple computers to handle the simulation (or how that even works with X-plane) . I wonder if my quad core i7 3770k would handle all that he does here.. I have X-plane 10 that I just purchased yesterday -- amazing sim but I see that it's complicated enough that it'll probably take me a year or more to learn everything about it... I also have FSX and didn't realize that the vatsim type ATC simulation was available on X-Plane as well! Awesome! I want to build a setup like this for a small plane like a Cessna 172. Plan is to eventually hire an instructor & get my actual sport then private pilot certificate once I've honed my skills in the simulators.
@ShinLeeChan9 жыл бұрын
Adam Olympia As i know it could reach around $100.000 or even $500.000... $6000 for various pc, then everything else that costs a lot of money. He is an actual instructor and pilots can get sim hours. It was absolutely incredible when I did it. One hour 99.00 Canadian. Have a picture and video of the whole experience. Unfortunately, the video was lost in my email somehow.

If i was going to build a simulator of that caliber i would build one out of a fighter/attack type military aircraft. Would seem much more fun to dogfight or attack enemy positions than just leisurely flying a 737 around looking at clouds,but thats just me. To each his own.
@cosmicacorn7 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from but I would prefer a 737 sim, yeah a fighter game would be really fun but it would get repetitive soon. But a 737 is very consistent in the entertainment.
@Petey446 жыл бұрын
That would be cool, but if you wanted to do flips and stuff, lots of wiring
@agostonbazmajer11006 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is the secrecy regarding the actual systems. For a 737 essentially you can learn almost anything because nothing's really classified about how the systems work and what they do. If y ou only care about making them behave realistically, it certainly can be done, the propietary stuff really comes to the actual manufacturing process. For military jets, the new stuff is classified. You may get a close simulation but you can't really get to know even the realistic behaviour and you have no way of making it appear realistic because you can't just find scrapped F16 throttle quadrants.
@ItsWingyy6 жыл бұрын
Well getting the screen around the fighter would be quite difficult

xThePisco I doubt it costs that much. If that were the case he would’ve been better off buying a full motion simulator for an obsolete airframe from an airline auction. They come on the market when airlines are upgrading their fleet to a new generation and the sim is too old to be worth retrofitting. Can buy what used to be a multi million dollar sim for well under 100k. But you need the space for it since they require very high ceilings, and also demand lots of power.
@laserguy86736 жыл бұрын
You can build one far under that. Not sure where you grabbed that number, but for that price, i can get a new mercedes benz AMG. if you go for high copy components instead of original and build the frame yourself. and If you can make your own boards, and are handy with electronics, thats another huge plus for cutting costs. and by the way, now that we have raspberry, arduino and android etc, its even cheaper to make. We didn't had sophisticated and powerful little project computer boards 15/20 years ago The displays with driver boards from captain to first officer €200, most cases even less. Nice FMC panels : >€70. FMC screens with buttons soldered in matrix or just pushbuttons with graphite to capacitive touch interface, less then €50 Its more time than anything else. But heck, $150k?!?! Thats a price you pay for an Benz AMG V8 black series.

He kinda went over it, how the plugins for the game allow it to interface with the program which creates the displays. For the actual connection itself, I'b be highly surprised if it is anything fancier than ethernet cables and a switch.

Home servers work great for such things. Trying to hook everything up through USB would be a nightmare, but taking the time to learn networking and then using it to split tasks up is much easier.

The best thing for this would be a stretched projector screen in a semicircle and a really high powered industrial projector with a lens to skew it.

What would be great is if you somehow come across a way to lay a transparent flexible tv screen over each of the cockpit and brow windows so you can see from the inside out only and from the outside you can have anyone watch you with out seeing the stuff you're watching and to make the inside scenery to be consistent with the scenery change as you're flying? I don't know if the technology has been made or not, but that's the way I would do it. Anyone know what Im talking about and would know if such technology is out there exist? This would be a great man cave medium range project to do. Im amped up to do something like this! I've always had my head up in the clouds with aviation.

I can see OLED technology being able to do this very soon.
