This is way to surreal. Grew up about 10 minutes from this guy, and his family are super close with mine. He even plays cello in a band with my dad, Ray. I remember going over to his workshop to see what he was making. Hell, his wife's shop was where my dad had his reception. I also grew up a massive mythbusters fan, and a few years ago "I am one degree separated from Adam Savage" became my fun fact at parties. So strange to be reminded and see Gary Staab walking around in the tested facility.

I loved how your talk migrated to animals themselves and not just the art they inspire, this of course leads me to my own story with my rescue dog. He is a Husky and Akbash mix, Akbash are Turkish LGD related to the Pyrenes Mountain Dog (think of a short hair Pyri) and when we got him at 1yr 3 mo old he had not had a lot of training, not very trusting and very possessive; the one time he bit me it was me trying to take something away from him he shouldn't have. One day when out for a walk he got very distressed and panicky and then I realized he had chomped on a stick and broken off the ends getting the middle wedged across (between?) his teeth and was trying to get his tongue above it to pry it out. After trying to calm him a little I saw he realized I was trying to help and he let me reach in and pull out the piece of stick and that action to help him changed our relationship from then on, 7 years later he is the best, smartest, obedient dog I have every had.

20:40 claws don't typically have cutting edges in the way teeth would, they're just pointy. So they can cut, but it kinda tears. If you've ever seen a cat claw they're the same. So, yes, as with cats they would be primarily for holding things, but they absolutely can cut and slash. It just wouldn't be pretty.

its nice to hear Crichtons involvement included, the Book actually references Deinonychus. Wu tells them that the raptors are 'Velociraptor Mongoliensis' later on Alan asks Timmy what he thought about the identification. Timmy thinks they are 'Velociraptor Antirrhopus' given their size. Of course 'velociraptor Antirrhopus' is a synonym of 'Deinonychus Antirrhopus' its also nice to hear some decision making that Spielberg made, wanting it to be larger and more scary for the film. then whilst filming commenced the 'Utahraptor' was discovered by James Kirkland. i watched an interview on The Gaming Beaver you tube channel with James Kirkland and he tells a story where he was at an event, not too long after retrieving the specimen with some of the crew for Jurassic park, they had a prop claw and he compared it to the fossil claw he had with him. The fossil claw was larger, but the curve was less pronounced. Really loving this build, I wondered what happened to all those years ago and i'm really looking forward to see how it turns out.

As a vet tech i can confirm that cat claws (in their natural shape which is very similar to the dinos claw) do the same thing. If they scratch you deep enough the claw will be beneath your skin and it hangs in there quite securely because of the rounded shape. You have to carefully remove the cat to not hurt yourself even more 😅 its a really weird feeling, can't recommend
