Will and Norm get juiced this week while testing two recommended juicers that use different juice extraction techniques. One is a centrifugal juicer that uses a fast-spinning grinding blade, and the other is a masticating juicer that crushes fruit and vegetables into submission. But which yields the most juice?

Very easy to assemble kzbin.infoUgkxXHNfxr6U9XrHQpsdjUrKNVP231BfS9q9 disassemble and wash. I had a juicer before and remember how much work was to wash it and how little juice I got for this. So, I was sceptical and that's why I did a good amount of research so I don't get disappointed again. So, I picked the Hamilton-Beach 67608A model and I am glad I did. Now, this is a totally different experience! It is powerful and squeezes every ounce of juice so the pulp is almost dry. It's simple and easy to take it apart for washing. I put a plastic bag in the waste container for less cleaning. I am glad I picked this model as it is smaller in size, but delivers the same power as the larger one.

I have had both kinds of juicers, and the masticating juicer will actually produce a slightly better quality juice with much less foam and less oxidation. But the problem with the masticating juicer is that using it is a LOT more time-consuming, due to the slower motor and smaller opening (meaning you cannot put big stuff through like whole apples and carrots, etc., so you will have to spend a lot of time cutting things up first), and the cleanup is more work. I prefer the centrifugal juicer (I actually have a Breville similar to the one shown here) mainly for convenience. Believe me, you do NOT want to get a juicer you will dread to use, and that is where the the centrifugal juicer comes out on top. The masticating juicer is just too much work and too much hassle, unless you have tons of time on your hands.

Yes, I agree. Sometimes going for something less superior will actually make you use it if this means it is quicker to do a juice, even with less juice/nutrients if you stick with it and make juice every day rather than only at the weekends when you have more time it might be a nutritional winner to stay with centrifugal. Different people will be more or less busy or be more or less committed. I think it depends on the person - if you rush in the mornings, work a lot or want to do mostly carrot juice ( like me ) you may want to buy the centrifugal one. I also strongly feel that juice should be consumed straight away without storing for days.

How do you know they dropped the vegetables on the floor? They may have dropped them on the table/countertop, in which case it's perfectly OK to use them. Same glass to pour different substances, so what? Juice cocktail. I could point out some other issues, like each one tasting his own juice, so no comparison could be made. They could have poured it in two smaller glasses each, so that each one would taste the end result of both juicers.

I have an Centrifugal Atlas juicer, made of Cast Iron that was specifically engineered to fix the problems that plague many centrifugal juicers! No heating of the juice, can juice leafy greens, and designed to last a lifetime, no plastic! Also, clean up is super easy, because it uses paper filters! Unfortunately, the juicer isn't made anymore, most likely due the manufacturing cost today, the juicer would be far out of the reach of most people. The Atlas juicer was made in the 1960's. I love this juicer and to me is worth more than Gold! I own 2 of these juicers!
@KillerGX
@KillerGX 8 жыл бұрын
I have used both types of machines. The centrifugal is faster, but that's just about it. You get better tasting juice with longer shelf life, and higher yield with a slow masticating juicer. The cleaning and breakdown is about the same... I actually prefer cleaning a masticating juicer because the screen is a lot smaller, therefore easier to clean. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are juicing a lot of fruits and veggies at a time the masticating is the better of the two. The high speed centrifugal juices will put out some heat into your juice due to the high speed/friction between the blades and fruit. This heat can be bad for the juice. I'm not an expert so i don't exactly know what the heat does to the juice, but it has something to do with the living stuff, probiotics, enzymes in the raw fruits and vegetables that can be destroyed by the heat. you can google it. TL:DR Buy the Omega.

Complete nonsense that it will take 13 or 25 minutes to clean the juicers. The Masticating is even easier but neither take much time. The Omega BMJ3300 is better at juice extraction- leaves relatively dry pulp. As for juice bars being cheaper, add in the gasoline and time to drive to a juice bar, not available at all, in some areas and the cost is far less with a home juicer. Also it is a good idea to buy organic and grow organic in your yard. Even very small yards can produce vary large quantities of fruits, vegetables and herbs of all kinds. The purpose of juicing is firstly to fight things like cancer and heart disease- eating pesticidal lunatic GMO food simply will fly in the face of such efforts. The nutrient density is far greater with home grown produce because of the fact that there is zero time from farm to juicer- farm to grocery or farm to grocery to juice bar can be many days or weeks severely degrading nutrient and cancer fighting quality. With a home garden, one can be assured of it being all organic and the soil built with the correct amendments(organic grown produce lives from a soil that produces food with a complex system including microbes, worms and minerals of all kinds). One can produce his own compost with a compost tumbler. All of these things become very easy to do once you have it all set up and learn how to do everything, which just takes a bit of repetition. Vegetable gardening can produce 10s of thousands of pounds of produce from an average yard depending upon the system and techniques employed. As far as cleaning up the juicer- on the masticating scrub around the surface of the metal band strainer-filter with the enclosed brush and dishwashing liquid- good quality ultra concentrated Palmolive works especially well(and is great on on the hands)followed by a quick scrub inside the tube. Then rinse everything well then fill the sink with hot soapy water and let it all set until the temp is cooled enough to have hands in the water without burning and take a good, quick brushing and finally rinse. The trick with the centrifugal cleaning is to take a good stiff brush with detergent and scrub the outside of the shredder-strainer mesh bowl breaking all the fibres off then flip and the inside is even quicker- mostly rinses off, then rinse and soak everything just like the masticating version. It doesn't take a good 5 minutes once you've done it a few times of actual hands on cleaning time. It is best to use a hot soapy water soak each time, but at least do it once a week to assure the mesh strainers and other areas are sanitized of organic mater completely. Make it all easier and install a small shelf out of the splash zone of the sink for your phablet or tablet and play some youtube videos of the appropriate duration. Time flies. The difference in juice extracted from produce from organic markets near your home or even better organic produce from your yard and the cost and degradation of a juice bar(drive time and gasoline spent too) or ordinary grocery produce is massive. It is worth EVERY CENT. Consider buying 3 juicers- centrifugal (omega bmj3300) Horizontal Masticating: Omega NC800 and a vertical masticating (Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer)-- with these three machines you can forget about having to buy almost all the factory produced food purchased in the local store and make it all at home. Think about the phrase "factory food" for a moment. Grow your own vegetable garden and get your neighbors to do the same and you can share what you grow around - create a system. Add in a good Kitchenaid commercial mixer and you can bake the best bread you have EVER tasted. It all adds up and pays for itself by increasing the quality of what you eat and increasing the nutritional value which all equates to the most vital thing we all own, our good health. This doesn't even add in things like - factory food is allowed to contain up to 90 insect parts per sample. YUCK!. Get in the driver's seat now! Take back your life. F*** factory food. The best single juicer, if one were only to buy but one juicer to start with- the vertical masticating juicer or the centrifugal juicer. Overall functionality probably the vertical masticating would edge out the centrifugal. Learn to wrap your lettuce and wheat grass in cylindrical bundles and you can see how the centrifugal has extensible possibilities. With the vertical masticating you get better quality to a significant extent because the speed is only as little as 45 rpm vs 300 times that for the centrifugal- but the centrifugal processes green leafy vegetation easier- no need to cut it(but harder to get super juiced - must roll it up and inter feed it with things like carrots) and the centrifugal is by far the faster juicer of the bunch. If you only want to get 2 juicers then the vertical masticating and the centrifugal are the 2 best choices because their combined feature set will give you a fairly good coverage of making all the factory food. Or get the horizontal and vertical masticating juicers for the best quality juice- vertical better for fruits, nut milks and fruit juices and the horizontal better for leafy green vegetables and wheat grass as well as things like celery. Centrifugal juicers: The BMJ330 by Omega especially is FAST- you can turn big carrots into gallons of juice in a blink. By the way, BM stands for big-mouth meaning it can take even uncut apples- best to core them to remove seeds as apple seeds have trace amounts of organic toxins- some prefer to eat them with seeds. Centrifugal juicers and BMJ330 or similar models are great for very fast juice extraction- this can increase oxidization of the juice, decreasing shelf life- all juices are best drank the moment you prepare them. Church meetings might be best served with a centrifugal for fast bulk juice creation- remember the high speed of the centrifugal comes with louder noise levels compared to masticating juicers. The horizontal masticating juicer is much better at slow extraction of things like wheat grass and leafy greens without a need to cut them up and also the model suggested will extrude pasta from pasta dough you make in your mixer. It comes with a few different sized pasta dough extrusion disks. It will also make ice cream from frozen bananas and frozen fruit on the spot. The vertical masticating blender is the best for making soy milk which will save you a fortune on soy milk. Just buy top quality, US grown, organic soy beans in bulk. The two most important items to make sure you NEVER eatunless they are certified ORGANIC are corn products and that includes corn oil and soy products. Both of which are produced with GMO UNLESS THEY ARE CERTIFIED ORGANIC which has left lab animals riddled with large sized cancerous tumors. DO NOT EAT NON-ORGANIC CORN OR SOY PRODUCTS EVER! THIS INCLUDES THINGS LIKE CORN FLAKES!! Take back your life! THROW THE BOXES AWAY. START FRESH. Regarding the Omega brand of juicer they give you a full 10 to 15 year warranty on all the parts and the motor. Most seem to give about a year warranty on the parts and motor and some give more on the motor but the motor is the least likely to go bad. These are long term purchases and you likely have them for many decades and so the cost is very low on a per day basis over the life of the product. Be careful to use them with some care. Set out a big box or bowl that won't fall off the counter top to store all the parts. Firstly buy juicing books. BTW the best blender overall continues to be the Vitamix and it comes with a life-changing book of recipes that will add years to your life. Watch videos on everything gardening to juicing. Work to optimize the entire process to shorten task times and make the entire process super easy for you. Even if you can't garden you can grow flats of wheetgrass- cats love them too and micro greens YUM and powerfully nutritional(you can garden in nearly every situation, just build or have some raised beds built to fill with the best quality soil and compost and install drip watering so you can go on vacation without worrying).

This video is incredibly misleading, and these two guys are obviously clueless. I own both of these juicers, and can tell you for a fact that the masticating juicer is far easier to clean. In regards to speed... Yes you can feed things into the centrifugal juicer faster, but when you take into account the masticating juicer's higher yield, quicker cleaning time, and longer shelf life of the juice produced, as well as higher nutrient content, it becomes quite obvious that it is the more efficient machine. Do NOT base your purchase of a juicer on this video alone. Do more research. There are numerous other videos on KZbin done by people who know FAR more on the subject.

The friction is the biggest difference. Centrifugal actually makes your juice alot warmer (heat caused by friction) which can kill some nutrients. Also, less oxygen in the juice means it will last alot longer and oxidize much slower.

Better juice for an auger is the HUROM juicer. Also you lose nutrients in the breville, no matter how small because it heats up and actually cooks the vegetables. Juice from Breville is less pulpy but also more waste. Also when doing leafy vegetables even with the masticating you are supposed tear them up.

There is a lot of juice left in the pulp of green leafy vegetables in the centrifugal juicer . If you redo the pulp the yield is pretty close . ( because centrifugal chops and throws out pulp at a high rate ) . There is more froth in Centrifugal juicer suggesting higher oxidation , hence less nutritious than the masticating juicer Ease of use : Centrifugal very easy ( fast juicing and easy cleanup ) vs Masticating requires lot of patience during juicing and post clean up commitment .

As a health care professional, I can tell you that it does work. There is lots of research being done on monosaccharides and their effects on both triglycerides and insulin resistance. The bottom line is that over consumption of ANY simple carb leads to weight gain and insulin resistance. Eating a diet rich in potatoes and rice isn't necessarily bad for a normal healthy person IF they are exercising and restricting calories, but then trying to correlate that to meat consumption is off topic.

I've heard so much raving about how much better the masticating juicer is over the centrifugal. You get a fair amount more juice with the masticating with the leafy greens but over all there isn't a big difference. I'll go with the Breville for the speed and convenience. If this is something I'm going to do daily I want to make it as simple as possible. Good comparison video!

I have little time during the week and what I do to keep it simple and fresh is: Sunday I get my fruit and veggies and I take 1h to cut and peel everything to fit the breville's chute, and I prepare daily individual vacuum sealed bags with my sous-vide machine. Since it takes the air out, they perfectly last all week in the fridge without browning or changing texture or flavors. Every morning, open bag, down the chute, drink fresh. Wash machine. Trick: Put a plastic bag in the waste basket.

I have to say, you two are fools, lol. First of all, I have the Omega 8004 which is pretty much identical to the Omega you are using with the exception of the black 8x harder auger. It takes me less than 5 minutes to clean. VERY easy to clean. Also, the Omega you are using has a 10 year warranty (my Omega 8004 has a 15 year warranty), the Breville has a 1 year warranty. You should have mentioned that. Plus you made the Omega look bad with the way you were putting the kale in. Looks like you did not know what you were doing. I use my Omega daily, and even make sorbets, and my own homemade nut butters. Try doing that with the centrifugal, lol.

Love my Omega 8004. Super simple to clean, quiet, excellent yield, low temp., etc. Good machine. Masticating > centrifugal unless all you're making is large amounts of fruit juice. Also unless your fingers are 8" long it would pretty much be impossible to get them into the Omega's moving parts, i'm not sure why Will is so concerned about that.

I started with a Bella centrifugal juicer and switched to an Omega masticating juicer. Honestly I juiced more with the centrifugal juicer because I could feed whole carrots or halved apples through it. I think the masticating juicer is better but I don't make juice unless I have time to cut the carrots into little pieces. Sometimes I use a food processor to slice the carrots before I juice them but that's too much different equipment to mess with.

centrifugal force is definitely a real thing....
@TheErusPrime
@TheErusPrime 9 жыл бұрын
partykrew666 Kind of. It's a fictitious force that is not present within a non-inertial frame of reference. It's called an inertial force because it is a reaction to acceleration of the aforementioned frame of reference and not a physical reaction between two objects. Centripetal force would be the connecting force between two objects, or, a physical reaction. You put a ball on a string connected to a stick, it's the tension on the rope. Or, yanno, gravity. So, centrifugal force is a real thing, but only with certain conditions. It exists like winning the lottery exists. Things have got to happen before you get all that money (force).

I have a breville juicer and one of the tips that works well is if you are juicing more than one type at a time wrap leafy greens around something harder like an apple or carrot. Or if you are only juicing leafy greens try bundling it or folding it over itself to double it's thickness to juice better. As long as your juicer doesn't make hot juice/pulp you shouldn't really have to worry about too much oxidation and you can run the pulp through the juicer one more time. And if you don't plan on making something out of the pulp put a plastic bag in the pulp basket and you can just toss it away. No fuss, no mess.

Why put more plastic into a waste dump? Take the pulp outside and use it as mulch or compost.

Dee Hines How bout people just eat their fruits and vegetables and take the necessary dietary fiber that your body needs anyways. juicing is a waste of time and energy. Otherwise juicing and throwing away all the pulp could be another form of food waste.
@deehines5750
@deehines5750 10 жыл бұрын
Clearly you don't know anything about juicing Mony Ty. The pulp can easily be used in many things other than throwing it away if you intend to. Many people use it to make energy/fiber/protein bars or baking. Like I said, everyone doesn't want to though and that's their right. . In addition to that, the less your body has to work to break down food to get the nutrients aids in the natural efforts to cleanse itself and promote healing. Juicing has been known to help people lose weight, help with skin conditions, hair issues, properly intake non artificial vitamins, etc. The list goes on way too long to name. It goes slightly above just eating right from the start and an enormous help for people that don't. And lets face it, most people don't. I've seen a nice amount of hefty vegetarians these days too.. You can knock it if you want but if you're not lazy about it, it's a great help.

I've had 3 high speed juicers and now I have an Omega Vert 350 and there is no comparison. The Omega had drier pulp, very easy to clean, and the juice is better. The only downside is that it doesn't do fibrous fruits and vegetables very well. My high speed juicers wasted juice, sloppy and messy to clean and the juice is not as good. In my opinion the real secret of having a juicer is the ease of clean-up. Most high speed juicers are messy and you soon get tired of using and cleaning them. My Omega is fun, I haven't missed a day in the 6 months to a year that I've had it. I go through a lot of apples, carrots and oranges and I usually take that juice and blend it with pineapple. After drinking the juice I usually throw all the scraps in the Vita mix and pour it down the drain. This summer the scraps will go into the compost. I like pulpy juice, and the Omega will do both pulp free and extra pulp.

Let me tell you from Experience that cleaning the masticating juicer (as i have one myself) only take 3-4 minutes and not the 20 minutes said in this video...unless you let it dry in the juicer. They don't know how to pronounce "centrifugal" or "masticating". They don't know a masticating juicer needs two recipients. They forgot to have two glasses each so they can compare juices. They leave the orange pulp in the juicer making carrot juice. They don't measure either weight nor volume... The one operating the Omega forcefully stuffs 2 or 3 branches of kale onto the auger... Well... let's say that, from this video, I have learned two things : 1° those guys don't know either juices nor juicers ; 2° they did not prepare their video.

They did not measure by volume because the densities of the liquids were different due to the centrifuge adding air into the liquid. Measuring the mass is a more accurate representation of the yield.

get over the cooties norm and share the juice so we know if there is a taste difference, I mean, really, come on! Out of all of this, isn't the taste the most important part? That was awkward. Anyway thanks for the other info. I really expected a lot more from the masticating, as far as the juicing amount. Really would have like to see the actual cleaning time and just not theorizing. I have a jack la lane centrifug..might be easier cleaning the innards, but there is microscopic flinging and juice leaking...and the cleaning of the whole area takes a lot of time.
