I'll say this again: Adam's unbridled, unabashed enthusiasm for his subject material is at least half of the reason I come here. The man is genuinely excited about the thought that went into creating this seat cushion. He's jazzed about the decisions that were made in materials and color. It feels like he wants his audience to be as happy about his chair as he is. The man is a national treasure.

I cannot help observe even from my own experience that the "maker" culture seems to foster a strong sense of thankfulness. Inspiration, exposure to clever useful tools, a finished project and even just seeing the build process all are valued things. Unhesitating credit given is also fantastic to see as well as the "narrative" of the objects involved. Thanks so much Adam, you inspire a faith in the better nature of humanity.

Fun story (I think I heard him tell it in _It Might Get Loud_ but I'm not sure): when he was working as an upholsterer, he and fellow upholsterer Brian Muldoon were in a band, The Upholsterers. They used to hide their record in some of the furniture they upholstered. In fact, that may be what he's referring to at 5:12.

As a musician and mad scientist, I've always had a great appreciation for Jack White's builds and Third Man Products, like the sustainer pedal made with old telegraph mechanicals. My wife and I frequently travel to Nashville and are also Detroit Tiger fans, so I was so happy to find a black and yellow scarf at Third Man Records when we were there for the 2020 New Years Celebration (the coldest New Years Eve on record) that has a yellow side with black text and a black side with yellow text, one side says NASHVILLE, the other DETROIT.

I agree that making something which is intended for regular use by someone is truly one of the great pleasures of creation. As a professional Upholsterer, Jack White is very well known in the Upholstery community and a favorite story continually circulated about Jack is that when he was struggling to become known to music fans, he would put his first album within the carcass of the furniture he was restoring. I often leave a note for the next upholsterer in historic pieces, but would be blown away to find a Jack White Album !
