If you wanted to try something similar on a project then Tamiya PS-46 Iridescent Purple/Green Polycarbonate Spray is a good match, I used it on a Blade Runner 2049 blaster project to give the barrel a bit of an added kick, it's quite tolerant I could mist coat over silver paint with it.

A lot of the stuff in the Raimi’s trilogy was practical, it’s the way he rolled since the Evil Dead days. The most amazing is Doctor Octopus’ mechanical arms were actual puppets! Save a couple scenes where it would have simply been impossible, but you’d be surprised how determined to do as much practical as possible 👍

That mask (not sure about the suit) was made by Amalgamated Dynamics, whom the CEO (Tom Woodruff) was from my Home Town. He held a Practical SFX talk in town a few years ago and brought several masks his company worked on during that time. He brought a pristine version of the Green Goblin Mask and it was insanely beautiful. From the looks of it the mask Tom Woodruff has was likely for scenes that required closeups and likely not heavily used (if at all) for action scenes. Cool bit of history!

I was about to say that. If you think this is menacing, the animatronic version was downright scary. Such a pity they didn't go with that one. I’ve gone back on forth on the comic accuracy of it, but it’s a beautiful suit at every angle. Also has a cool reflective/holographic paint job, which is a clever way to incorporate some of the original purple in the design through the shadows.
@infernaldaedra13 күн бұрын
I've always thought this design was cooler than the original comic book designs. Nothing against them though. It screams 90s/2000s future tech style and I think that it works well.
@writerpatrick13 күн бұрын
You can't really compare a comic drawing with a live-action costume. It's like comparing a sketch of a dress with an actual dress. The comic allows for more vagueness and error.
@SlashManEXE13 күн бұрын
@@writerpatrick The only counterargument is how beautifully the Spider-Man suit was translated in the same movie. Still, they designed and screen tested an accurate Goblin design, and Raimi decided it wasn’t what he wanted. I still have a lot of respect for attempting even the most fantastical designs before settling on a redesign. I’d also love to see Adam present the prototype Goblin mask prop (it’s still out there).
@infernaldaedra13 күн бұрын
@@writerpatrick beautiful analogy here because that's what it is. I think we can sill make points on it's design like the military armor inspiration works very well in live action. The original green goblin design would have been extremely challenging to get right. If not impossible. If it were my choice I would have melded the original hobgoblin design with the green goblin to make it more of a suit aesthetic.

The Green Goblin is a tricky character to pull off in live-action in terms of design.
@blackbere66613 күн бұрын
It is already long known that, yes in fact it is true, that they wanted to see his mouth through the mask. Initial iterations of the mask were all closed up but at some point, someone on the decision level, after having seen Mr Dafoe's facial expressions and range of muscle movements there, decided that it would be a pity to hide those. So the compromise was made to have this see through mesh for the mouth area.

The one I saw Spider-Man at closed years ago. Not only did I see Spider-Man there, but in 2004 when Spider-Man 2 came out, that same drive-in theater had a "double feature" where they first showed Spider-Man and then showed the new Spider-Man 2, so I saw Spider-Man twice at the drive-in. The loss of drive-in movie theaters is just one of a long list of tragedies we've had to suffer through thanks to "the wonders of technological advancement". In this case, "streaming".

Lots of incredible film artifacts like this are in museums, in a large part thanks to private collectors. But there aren't enough presently to accept (let alone display) everything, and the market continues to drive new discoveries. If you'd like to see more in museums (as would I), your best method of influencing that is to frequently visit current museum collections and encourage others to do so. In my experience over the years, I've found prop and costume exhibits to be rarely swarming with visitors to the same degree as more mainstream fine art.

But the economics are still awfully hard. And the root issue remains; for every commenter persistently decrying how every prop and costume that Tested covers belongs in a museum, there are a thousand folks who either don't care at all, or even if they do, won't bother to go to an exhibition. The motor might be for the eyes. If you remember in one scene, when Goblin knocks out peter and takes him to a rooftop to offer Spidey a chance at joining Goblin, the eyes roll up so you can see his personal eyes. It could just be that the rotating hinges were removed at some point, and the eyes glued back into place. In that scene you can see the purple on the mask, too. I just re-watched it to check if I was right about which scene, and I noticed the purple in it now that I watched this video.
