Very cool! We think you might also be able to use a brush and denatured alcohol with the pan pastels to move them around like paint on the page. Always interesting to see the interactions between media!

I love the idea of using pastels along with alcohol markers! What a smart idea and helps the colors POP and it helps smooth out some of the streaks that I know I can see. Def will be using this hotdog method!

OMG, I totally LOVE this technique you teach us today. One thing that is very difficult for me to accept, is the hard marks between different shades (I don't know if I'm explaining myself well) and I see that with this technique they become softer and smoother. Whew I love the colors and just this whole project overall. You have to add an additional layer of final or workable fixative spray so the pan pastel doesn't transfer. Most of us who work in colouring books, often seal the pan pastel with a spray. Thoughts?

I generally don't spray my dry mediums with anything. I just store them in a portfolio - each page is protected by a sheet so they don't transfer. I typically only use sealers when I'm working with water-soluble supplies and I have to layer on top of them (and usually wet media) - but that's just me, you can do what you love to do!!

Sometimes I place wax paper in between the pages however,I don't like the sheets lying over the pages of my colouring books. Most of the time, there is no or very little transfer, but it is just something that a lot of us tend to do who work in colouring books. When I'm not feeling lazy, I spray and when I am, I close the book and hope for the best. :P QUESTION: Is Liquitex glossy varnish less shiny compared to the spray varnish? Does a regular spray varnish always leave a shiny finish or do you specifically need to use a matte or glossy spray? i used the liquitex glossy for the first time yesterday on my first ever hamburger. I liked it because it was easy and didn't have fumes and I own a very precious 20 year old cockatiel. I also have the spray for outside. Is it six of one and half a dozen of the other? i only really can see the shine in certain light and I used two coats with a foam brush.

@@karinswartz3046 I only use matte acrylic sprays - especially for anything that is going in a closed book. Anything else is ultra sticky! If I use glossy on anything, it’s a brush on. The gloss sprays are way less glossy than the brush ons by a lot! Hope that helps!

@@karinswartz3046 I just use regular acrylics, I definitely wouldn't use glossy acrylics or sprays in your art journals, stick to matte for both. I do only use matte spray - it still has a tiny sheen to the nake eye but it doesn't at all make my pages stick. I would love the hot dog packet please 😊 Are pan pastels softer (finer pigment) than stick pastels? Wondering if I need to purchase pan pastels or use the stick versions that I already have. This worked so well! Never thought it would stick to Bristol paper.
