If you’ve ever seen Ann Reardon’s debunking videos, you’d see 5-min crafts are not only pretty useless some are incredibly dangerous. The company behind the channel are in breach of KZbin terms and conditions and manipulate (‘hack’) the algorithm, subsequently making it even harder for genuine creators to grow their own channels.

The water based marker hack is called ink smushing. Card makers use this to make backgrounds. Usually use water based ink, watercolors, watercolor markers etc. You need something with way more pigment in it. Printer paper won't work with this. Watercolor paper is a good choice. It is really relaxing fast technique to make lots of backgrounds for cards. I usually do this on my glass mat. Love your videos.

7:06 I’ve done this before, it actually works really well? You need to push your hand down a little more, so the paper doesn’t move around, and you need to make sure the paper itself also doesn’t move your wrist. It’s all in the technique 24:27 I suggest holding the marker down, and moving it from around the center to near the edge of the paper/canvas? It’ll make a cool swirling pattern

Maybe the cool thing about the sharpie was, that it can actually burn since it’s alcohol-based, and a water-based marker wouldn’t burn. Don’t really see the usefulness though… But who knows, someday I‘ll maybe have to … defend myself with a sharpie in lack of a torch XD

We absolutely can and should criticize content farms like 5 minute crafts even if they are successful, I'd argue especially because they are so successful. Not only are there hacks stupid, they can also be dangerous, bleaching strawberries to make 'white strawberries' immediately pops into my head. I don't think I need to explain why you shouldn't eat bleached strawberries but these videos are often targeting children And then there's the fact that these content farms genuinely make it difficult for actual creators to grow their channel but they make KZbin money sooo

I know this is really late but with the drill at 9:50 most drills have a torque setting that sets how strong the drill head spins. If you have this setting set it to the lowest setting and only pull the trigger partially and the drill will not spin as fast and therefore be more precise. Plus use a really strong rubber band like a castration band or those weird hair ties that look like them. That will hold the pen or whatever you're using more secure.
@dude9883 жыл бұрын
We did the one with the spinning paper in elementary school with some wet paint that we dripped/sprayed onto the moving paper. The colours spread to the outside of the paper and partially blended together, with some black out tunes out quite wormhole-y

Paperclip option: bend the paperclip at an angle to get different sizes. Canvas Shoes: You dont brush it on, you do an eye dropper and just add the alcohol. You dont rub in and spread the ink.... You just add the a!cohol with a dropper an it spreads the ink.

@SarahRenaeClark4 жыл бұрын
I’ll definitely be practicing the markers on plastic more- I did a pretty bad job but can see massive potential with that one. I think it would be great for things like skies and backgrounds! And I can see it would be perfect for stamps and mixed media, so I’m not surprised! I don’t think you’ll see a book from me anytime soon on hands... oh dear! Definitely not my strong point. But I’ll keep practicing! I had the cheap $2 shoes from Kmart too- I was planning to use them for a future black and white sharpie project, but the white material was going yellow 😬 so I was happy to find a new project for them!

@@SarahRenaeClark I think you did amazing for your first try!

Too funny! I believe what you had in your hand was a protractor at about 3:40. At about 10:20, I believe my dear that you inhaled a little too much sharpie spray. At 21:00 ish I noted that you most likely used a disposable glove that had a powdery residue inside. These gloves are meant to move easily, so the lines would not have stayed put even if you had access to the correct size.
