So jubilee, you need to understand that Africans and black people who grew up in white spaces live a very different life when it comes to black people who are raised in black spaces. If you give a voice to only Africans and blacks in majority white spaces it limits black visibility. I think in these sorts of conversations it’s important to go outside of the comfort zone of the kinds of black men and black people who are marketable and palpable for white audiences.

I really don't understand the problem, if it's your friends and YOU as the Black Person in question have actively said your fine with your friends saying it then I see no reason for it to be a problem, that's not even getting into the fact that non black people who grew up in places like the hood were "born black" but aren't black and are still allowed to say it. At the end of the day I think as long as there is proper context behind it it should be ok
@lynetteminute
@lynetteminute 5 ай бұрын
@@FroYoOG There's no "proper context" to a slur, as if it's etiquette reserved for a set time & place. To anyone with an iota of cultural/emotional intelligence this should be common sense. Only a bigot, someone with low self-worth or low-comprehension would justify it. Why would a person want to use the word? Is there this same longing or urge to call anyone else from another background a slur? Why do you think black people should be accommodating or ok with another black person accepting it? If caught in a racist encounter will those same friends show up beside you-and if so, they'd probably have enough respect to not want to use the slur.

No offense to Andrew, but he is the epitome of white guys that say "I have black friends". I hope this experience encourages Andrew to learn more about his friends and how they experience life versus just saying he has diverse friends. Like most people have a diverse group of friends (especially if you went to college or grew up in a big city) with the exception of if you grow up in like a cult or strict household where your friendships are monitored. It's not something that's a big deal to feel special about. The whole point of friends is to get to know them and what they're like and support them.

However, I will say the "respect my history" argument is slightly odd. History is a passion of mine, and if there's something I've realized while learning about it is that literally everyone, regardless of identity, had to suffer (besides the rich). Once again, I agree with your statement, I even liked your comment, but it's bizzare to me seeing people using someone else's stories from centuries ago to prove a point in the contemporary world. Most of these guys didn’t even try to actually answer and they shut their brain off to throw one out, which I don’t blame them considering the video just screams trap 💀 To make a video like this successfully, I honestly think it’s necessary to create a safe environment and get people who aren’t trying to sugarcoat and are genuinely trying to both learn and be upfront and honest and actually engaging with their stereotypes, understanding they might be wrong.
