I always come back to you. You make quality podcasts. The photography is good and your instructions are precise. And … you weave a nice fabric.

I thought this video a really excellent demonstration of the double-weave double width! It is a hard weave to wrap one's head around at first, but your explanation, drawings, and demo made it all comprehensible. Thank you so very much. I have been binge watching all your videos, and I really love them! Thank you for all your work. Can't wait to be able to get back to the loom! I have 10 yards of hand-carded, and hand-spun lace-weight 2-ply on my big loom, about 37 inches wide, that I am weaving in a plain twill.But have costuming demands that have to happen first. Keep up the great work!

Your picture may not be fancy but it is the best visual I have seen of how double-width weaving works.

Love this video! I have watched it several times. Finally, I think I am able to wrap my brains around double weave, thanks to your clear and precise explanations! Good luck with your blanket! Looking forward to watching that part of the project!

Thanks for watching. The blanket is done and off the loom. See my 3 videos named Tartan Conspiracy, Tartan Weaving, Tartan Blanket.

Hi Andy. In the Jan/Feb 1989 issue of Handwoven, there are tips for weaving doublewidth, which includes the use of 25 lb. test fishing line at the center fold which is removed after the project is off the loom and eliminates the obvious line. The same information is also covered in a separately published e-book titled "Best of Handwoven, New Technique Series - Doubleweave, Doublewidth". Thanks for all your vids!

I'm a beginning weaver, still trying to understand the basics, but someday I'd love to be able to weave blankets!! Thanks for helping me understand this concept.

I am not yet a weaver, although I do want to take up weaving. I love your videos! You explain things so well, that even a person who has never done any more weaving than elementary school, woven-paper place mats can understand very well! My question is, how do you avoid have a line down the piece, where the fold is, that is loose? It seems like the act of weaving the blanket folded would make it "want" to fold at that line. Sherri PS. I loved your line drawing. While it may not have been the prettiest art work ever produced, it was very clear what you were depicting, even before you began explaining what I was looking at, I understood the dots were the strings end on. (As a geologist, you learn to "see" what something would look like in cross section)

Andy, all this is way over my head. I'm never going to take up weaving, I guess. I'm not wired for it. But, I always enjoy watching you produce your magnificent handiwork. The "sampler" is looking great! From what I can see, you already have the technique down, as complex as it is. I wish you great success in your future blanket project!

I'm almost feeling as if this project is over my head too. I took a long time and a lot of note book paper getting to this point, and I still am not confident that I have the design correct. In fact, I seriously think there is a flaw in the plan, and I am trying to work out how to fix it. Anyway I am having fun doing the "mental crossword puzzle" part of this one, its almost as if I were back at work trying to figure out a database structure issue. BTW I'm never going to take up fishing so your blue gills are quite safe from me. Hahaha. Have a Blessed Easter John!

Great Video thank you! This was my very first weaving project, all I had at the time was a 4 shaft 15" dorothy leclerc loom. I did a plain weave baby blanket. lol aggressive learner... it was a challenge but came out great. Looking forward to your next video!

“😮 💭 Will I ever be able to do this?” LOL. THANKS FOR THIS LESSON! I’m sure I’ll be watching it many times. I would like to see the other side where it goes from the top weaving to the bottom weaving.

Enjoye very much your weaving videos. I have an Ashford table loom which I slightly modified so that I could use the wonderful technique to put on your warp based on the JST lessons. It is so easy to use. If you want to have a photograph of what I did, just let me know. Best regards. Gsja Vanwezel

Hi Andy and Judi, hope everyone is doing great! Andy, I think it is starting to click just a little, lol! I might have to redo it if I was doing it tho. I would have to cheat and put a sticky note at top to remember which shafts and what order, but I have the shuttle down pat, lol. You do an excellent job of explaining and I would love to take a class...going to look in my area and see if they offer any classes. Thanks for taking your time and sharing your excellent weaving skills with us. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter, hugs to you both, xxxx
@curmudgeon669 жыл бұрын
Pam, sticky notes are not cheating. You can't see it in this video but I have a couple of pages of notes to myself, they are filled with diagrams and sets of numbers to help me remember which shafts to pull at what step in the process, Even the threading was written down in my notes, and referred to constantly as I was working. If I was in your part of the world, and was looking for classes I would check out two places. The Woolery in NC and The Mannings in eastern PA. There may be more, but those are the two with which I am familiar. Have a glorious and blessed Easter. Huggs

Looks like your doing fine. Be interesting to see how you handle the fold because it will usually be denser from draw in. Great video, looking forward to more. Have fun weaving. I enjoy your videos. :)
@curmudgeon669 жыл бұрын
Gee - Thanks Swampy-D. Yeah I won't know about how the fold works until I get it off the loom, but I am trying really hard to be careful about leaving enough weft on that side. And for the last couple warp threads, I spread them out and skipped a couple of dents in the reed. I hope that takes care of it.

Hi Andy, a new subscriber to your channel, I love your work, method and process. I recently purchased a Ashford Sampleit Loom, you know, the complete opposite end of the spectrum to what you have lol! I love my loom, but not sure I'll ever get as far as you, but still love to watch you work. Can't wait to see how this all turns out. Just thought I'd say "Hi" from the U.K. - Olivia
@curmudgeon669 жыл бұрын
Hey Olivia, Welcome to my YT channel. The Sampleit is a rigid heddle isn't it? Even so, you can still do alot with one of those, and who knows, the weaving bug might bite you and then you will want another loom just a bit bigger, and then another, and pretty soon you will do what I did, starting with a home built inkle loom and eventually having 6 different looms in various sizes and shapes. Be Careful what you wish for!

@LarryDMohr9 жыл бұрын
Here's a question. How do you fix running out of thread?? Do you tie another piece to it???
@curmudgeon669 жыл бұрын
LarryDMohr First off, you plan the piece carefully so that you do not run out. I know how long the warp will be, I know how many warp threads I will use, count times length equals total length needed, just make sure I have enough before I wind on the warp. Same concept for weft, I know how much I need and I check that I have it all before I start weaving. Don't want to have to wait on FedEx to deliver more yarn next week.
@zachllama72247 жыл бұрын
lol my dream trial project is it true you must use 48 threads and how do you pass the threads in the needles ect
