Here I test out Harbor Freight's lowest priced airbrush/compressor combo.
It's currently selling for $79 and with their 10% off coupon it came to $71.
While not the greatest compressor and airbrush it does serve a purpose.

Quick tip. You can adjust the pressure on this compressor by turning the knurled knob at the bottom of the water trap clockwise or counter-clockwise. I discovered that when I first bought mine.
@Baleandor

Was that in their instructions? You had a great stroke of luck otherwise! How does it run now that you can adjust its pressure?
@lonewolf9390

@@Baleandor It is in the instructions, but it's pretty badly worded. Runs good and pushes paint through an airbrush without it being a jet once it's dialed down to around 20 PSI

Checked my compressor with high hopes but was dissapointed. My compressor has a spring with a C-clip on the bottom of the water trap that you press up to release the moisture. There's also what looks like a barbed section to attach a small hose to it to drain off the water. No knurled knob on mine unfortunately.

Airbrush is like the Vega which is a great little brush. HF brush is very good for the beginner and even for pros in a pinch. As for the compressor, it will hold and stay at desired PSI. It will spray or atomize the paint well, everything depends on type of paint, how it's mixed and compressor PSI. Once you get used to it, it will be one of your go-to brushes.

Thanks for the info on these kinds of compressors! Looks good for bigger models like cars and maybe some MG gunpla. I work mostly on smaller models. Snagged a Fengda AS-06-1 for half price cause it had a paint flaw. Works well but as a tankless it runs hawt! Looking to get an Airgoo AG-326 cause it's got double cooling. I've had the same compressor when HFT sold it by itself it's an ok compressor but really needs a regulator to be more useful which they sell the air brushes are marginal at best can be made to work and ok for a beginner to start with but if your serious about the hobby your better off spending the money on a compressor with a tank and regulator and a decent midrange airbrush that will give you many years of service. So I passed on my HFT stuff to a friend so hey could get started in the hobby so that makes it all good.

Interesting video. I bought a Zeny setup on Amazon in that price range, and I am pretty happy with it. I am newer to airbrushing, so perhaps those with more experience and higher standards may not like it. It came with a regulator, moisture trap, two-spot airbrush holder, 0.3mm needle dual action gravity feed airbrush, tools, etc. It is quieter than the one in your video and sits still better when running. Just sharing as another option for your subscribers. I really enjoy your various real-life product testing and insights! Thanks, and keep up the good work.

I have this compressor and I used it and airbrushed for the first time in my life today. I used a iwata neo that I purchased from hobbylobby. I actually bought the airbrush almost w urars ago right after covid lockdown and I bought the compressor I could afford later, hence why I have a somewhat nicer airbrush than what comes with the kit. One thing I would like say is that I noticed that with the neo I had to get relatively close as well in order to get the paint to go on what I was trying to paint. Honestly. I thought I was messing up because it was first time airbrushing. I also noticed some looks like speckling on one of the pieces I was trying to paint. I also noticed that you can try to control the air pressure by turning the fitting at the button of the moisture trap but it makes the compressor running almost continuously. I am wondering if a different water trap with a pressure regulator would make this compressor better to use and if there is a tank I could buy that would work with this compressor or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a better one online.

I have this set. I bought an adjustable valve from hf for it. The compressor works great I love it. The airbrush and the hose included not so much. Even with lots of the blue pipe tape wouldn't stop leaking had to replace it. For base coats and primers it's ok. Personally I'd spend a Lil more money upfront and get the other kit. That kit hadn't come out yet when I bought mine and with the upgrades you'll be in it more than the price of the other set.

Make sure you grab the needles for it as each 1 has it's own use. .7 will spray a body in no time flat, the fine detail one is a serious detail dream, though not as good as the Iwata 1.8 needle it's about as close as you can get for $400 less ;)

I would definitely plumb a tank onto that with a regulator, though siphon feed brushes with .3 or .5 needle are designed to be 28-33 PSI or so, 60 is far too much even for unthinned enamels. Great review and those HF airbrushes are no joke, they really aren't bad after a good few polishing sessions on the needle/nozzle assembly. I would splurge for a Badger 105 or if you like the siphon feed the Patriots Sister the 155 Anthem. Seeing as I can easily airbrush eyes on Warhammer mini's the 105 Patriot I see little need to spend tons on the Iwata name alone. BTW Rex were you able to locate a winner for the Badger airbrush yet? Try using a bit more thinner with a retarding agent (Mr. Hobby makes some). Also check your needle, thicker mediums usually require a larger needle .3 or .5 should be just fine. Please respond, NEWBIE here. First I want to say thank you for this informational video. I'm an acrylic artist & I'm just getting into airbrush. I don't do models or miniatures. I love spray can art & by your description here in this video, it seems this may be good choice for that result & less toxic. I bought a few cheaper airbrush kits (2 gravity Neoeco (I saw on your video lol) & a mini 30 psi compressor, but they all seem to be very limited in power, concentration & strokes. I want a set that gives me a a great fast steady flow of medium to wide spray like a spray can would. Do you recommend I try this setup? Again thank you!!!

Would you say this would be better than one of those $50 kits off Amazon with that tiny compressor (that looks like an air pump for my fish tank)? Could always pick up a regulator if lonewolf9390's tip on air pressure regulator was wrong.
@TheP3NGU1N
@TheP3NGU1N 2 жыл бұрын
the small pump are good for 15psi needs but nothing else. so cake airbrushing needs... but modeling, no. you want something that will do 20-45psi constantly that most of those small pumps won't do.

dude, just get yourself or make yourself a leather strop. you will never have to buy another blade again. literally.... I have been using the same blade in my exacto hobby knife for the last 5 years and all I do is keep stropping when I use it. believe it or not, but it is actually SHARPER than a brand new blade is! its mindblowing honestly.

RECOMMEND WRAPPING IT IN A PLASTIC BAG TO SEAL IT OR REMOVE ANY BEARING.HOW DO I KNOW? BROKE BOTTLE AND PAINT ALL OVER THE PLACE. OTHERWISE THIS UNIT WORKS VERY WELL. GO SLOWLY!!!

Hey I know this was a year ago but I have this same kit and was trying it out and there is actually a pressure regulating screw on the bottom of the air trap at the front though it might only be some models of this kit. I loosened mine and while running that keeps the psi around 30 or so which should help the painting... I'm just brand new into this so have been watching all of these videos I can and sharing the info.

If where you live is high humidity then add a 2nd water trap to the air line just before your brush and that problem will go away. It's not this set it's the conditions in your area, quite common actually.

It needs to stop. We aren’t going out every week buyin new kit that we already have because you found one at a better or worst price. These KZbin guys and their buying bs every week for views is absurd. As iF ANY every day human has the resources OR SPACE to buy forty compressors or paint sets or airguns or whatever you’re pushing every month. It seriously has to stop. It’s becoming cringeworthy and redundant.

You can make revenue from KZbin videos. You make more revenue when you make videos that more people watch. More people are likely to watch and increase your revenue if you do things like new tools. The revenue can possibly surpass what you pay to get the stuff you demo. In some cases if you become very popular companies send you stuff for free just to demonstrate.
