I shoot Hornady's VMAX 50 grain varmint factory ammo in my 22-250 Remington. We'll see how it does and I'm concerned about heavy bolt lift.

225 FPS slower than box velocity? Yikes. Really good shooting though

Head space, its only after you fire the bullet. It's pushing the bullet into the bolt, fire forming to the chamber. You could try measuring, but it only takes a few thousands to make a difference. Should be an easy fix though. Barrel would need to move in. You could probably use a factory unfired case in your sizing die, and one fired from your rifle and feel the difference in resistance.

I shoot the exact same ammo 50 gr varmint express but its out of a savage carbon predator 22-250 has 20” barrel my chrono average was 3628 fps find it weird you have longer barrel but i have more fps than you using a new garmin chrono

Hornady tests their rifle ammo with 24 inch barrels. That's what they advertise anyway.

I believe there's a connection between the low velocity you're getting on chronograph and the heavy bolt lift. Measure the spent brass vs the new cartridge and you might find it. Just a thought.

I like the 22-250 I get a 5 shot group with mine under 400 thousands with varget powder and 55 grain sierra bullet

I would guess it is the bolt but might have it looked at to be safe. Reloads might be hot but factory shouldn't be an issue. Good luck

With the 22-250, the 50gr V-Max is superior to the 55gr V-Max in just about every way.

What makes you say that? Only asking because I’ve ordered myself a Tikka 22-250 and I cannot decide which one to use. The 50 grain V-max or the 55 grain V-max. I’ve owned a Savage Axis 22-250 and I only used the 50 grain V-max with it and it shot near perfect on bench/bipod. Please elaborate, any information is appreciated!

@@OG51st Because look at the ballistics: 55gr V-Max: 3,680 ft/s - 1,654 ft-lbs 50gr V-Max: 4,000 ft/s - 1,776 ft-lbs The 50gr V-Max is a lighter bullet going so much faster that it has more energy, I shouldn't have to say more.
