We used to do this as well and roll them under other squad connexes at the motor pool. This way when it blew, it wouldn't hurt anyone or damage anything. But if you were in the connex at the time it went off, it was a pretty deafening sound and you could feel it as well. Only the heaters we had were semi solid in form as we could cut it into strips. In fact that is what we did, cut the heater into strips and put it into an empty gatorade or similar plastic bottle with some water.

@@nvk0 , yeah the school food is the healthier choice, MRE's are loaded with pimarily fat and sodium, followed by sugar and protein, that doesnt even begin to cover the amount of preservative chemicals that allow them to survive for so many years and in various conditions. Take this from someone with a lot of experience around MRE's, they are just not something you would want to eat on a daily basis, both for long term health, and because they are honestly not all that tasty, they are better now than they were before, but they are still far from a suitable replacement for actual food

I've seen multiple people do it this way now to keep the retort pouch from getting covered in that grey "water". It's not as effective but you can sandwich the heater between the entre and bread/dessert/hot beverage pouch to warm up both without over stuffing the FRH pouch and minimize the mess. So it's kind of a coin toss to me for how you use it since either way has advantages/disadvantages.

Here's something you could try. I have made a "torch" from an MRE heater that doesn't self destruct. You need a small piece of metal tubing the tinier the better. You seal off the bag, poke a hole with the tube and tape it so it is sealed. You can then light the end of the tube and it will have a sustained flame like a torch. I never tried multiple heaters in one pack though, that would be interesting to see.

Thats new. The pouch i always put INTO the bag. THEN putting into the carton the jalapeno spread is excellent. The US did have some nice choices.

I went to Army Cadets for a portion of time, and cut to go on a camp that did FieldCraft outside (which was my favourite thing to do other than disassembly of the rifles) and when we had our MREs we didnt have those heat packs, we had to cook our food stuff in a metal pot over an open flame. Also, everyone got hard boiled sweets in theirs, and me being the lucky charm I am, got a pack of fizzy cola bottles. It was great. I was once and shared though because I felt bad

You guys should definitely try and heat a small pool with the haeting bags with it inside the pool. I wonder how hot you can get it.
