really nice job on the build so far. I would highly recommend a upper bearing. as you run the video you can see a slight flex in the upper sections of the wings. I am currently putting another VAWG together. a few more weeks and it should be flying. again, nice job, I bet that would really do good with a home made 3 phase coil set up.

Looking good! Perhaps a gear up as you mentioned and add a large flywheel too. It seems it would be good to have a "mechanical battery" to store all that bottom end torque. Then, then find the best cut in/cut out to keep it in the optimal RPM without stalling. I have never made one of these so just a guess from the video observation ... Very cool Ian!

Its got amazing torque, cant stop it with my hand. Not high rpm in 6 to 10 mph winds but like i say great power. Thanks! I can see this one working for you.

Oh yes the wind was pushing it round. At higher rpm it may get some lift from the airfoil. Power output will depend on the pmg.I hope to build or find one that would work for gearing that turns freely underload.

Thanks yes i did learn alot from the gearing up of my horizontal belt drive turbine. I dont think it will be to difficult to experiment with, once it sits on the frame i will be making for it. Yes there is some great data on VAWTS i will pick out some of the good ideas and incoporate into this design. No point re inventing the wheel but saying that there is a big difference between a F1 wheel to a Ox cart wheel.Lol

Oooh! not sure, each 6volt cell cost around $600.00 each not sure i would want to mess with them. Out of interest would that not stall out the Vawt pushing 12 volt stator into a 6 volt battery. Got alot to before it can make power like the frame ,bearings but at least it will give me some time to find the right pmg. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thanks i will do some research on graphene batteries/capacitors. Will these be powering our electric cars.

Try series connection and see open voltage. You may be able to charge one of your 6v batteries directly in either series or parallel. Batteries won't like that over the long haul but could switch between batteries monthly

This is fantastic! Do you think the wind is pushing the wings in the curved pocket or a pulling the wing by the airfoil? I wonder what kind of power you could get from that pma setup if you left that setup for a while, maybe up on the hill? john

No just what you see so far. Would like to see it on a working frame next and then have a go at making a axial flux generator for it. Its a big project I hope to work on if I ever find time?

ian57812 I built a ruff savonius out of a couple of oil barrels it was impresif is there any axial flux generator building courses. A VAWT most be even better Thanks Ian

I know you can buy it from the web I think its about 30.00 euro. Its a step by step book on making a Axial flux wind turbine/generator.

With all that torque , you should get some gearing ratio figured out. I can't help you there .You need a few separate formulas of specific kinds or a lot of trial and error. Some good math is usually cheaper than burning things out and replacing them LOL. There might be data on other DIY VAWT web sights .
