Testing myself at Pitmedden MTB - Fife MTB - Scotland MTB - Black Mamba/Heart of Darkness/TTApeworm

A successful day testing myself and my new bike on more difficult trails at Pitmedden. I attempt to do the drop on TTApeworm trail which I have always chickened out of before. I also attempt to do the large rocky section on Heart of Darkness trail which I also chickened out of before. I give Black Mamba trail a go for the first time a tricky black trail and also revisit Loam Lover and Rootmaggedden again. Maybe the best day I have ever had on a bike!

That's great Donald you have really upped your confidence and there's no holding you back! The new bike is undoubtedly helping a lot. For me the quantum leap also happened when I got a new bike, a Whyte 901 hardtail. Sitting on that bike always gives me a smile on my face and it lets me ride steep features with vastly reduced fear. I don't know if it's down to geometry, brakes, super grip or whatever all I know is I'm a different rider on that bike. I have a Stumpjumper Evo which is great but I mostly find myself riding my hardtail because of the great feeling I get from it

That is great to hear Robert. The change in geometry is definitely a big factor for me too. Its interesting that you prefer the hardtail to the full sus stumpjumper. I do offer heard people saying that hardtails have a great fun factor. Good to know you're enjoying yourself out on the trails as that's what it's all about. Cheers mate.😀🤙🤙🤙

No better feeling than nailing a feature you’ve previously been scared of/wary of. And that drop on TapeWorm/Wormhole is much bigger than a year or two ago. The landing is quite sketchy and loose. I’ve nearly crashed last two occasions hitting it. Another great Moongoose video. Rickster 🤙

Cheers Ricky, I thought that drop seemed bigger too. It was always the loose gravel before and after it that was putting me off. Was good to finally chalking it off. Will be pretty different in the wet no doubt. 🤔😀🤙Thanks mate 👍

great vid again dude. good to see you riding some of the spicy stuff - that bike is clearly making a big difference to you now. the middle line on black mamba is definitely the trickiest one. looks like you're certainly ready for playing about on the steeps there now.

Cheers Dave, the bike is definitely helping. I've now been down some of the steeper dh trails there again and I wouldn't say I was riding them particularly well, I didn't have any fear in going down the ones I did. The change in geometry and just being able to get the seat right out of the way has been great. 😀🤙🤙🤙

@@muddymongoosemtb9873 I go there a bit, it's probably the closest place to my house. I was up at your neck of the woods(Braefoot) the other day. I had fun but I struggled with the lay out of the trails. When I found myself on a good one, I'd go up to do it again and found myself on a different trail! Need to get more familiar with the area.

@JMTBFLOW yeah lots of the trails at Braefoot criss-cross one and other, which is good when it's your local as you can cross over from one to the other to change things up but I can imagine if you're not familiar with it you could easily get lost. I'm a bit like that at the downhill trails at Pitmedden, so many cross over in the middle section of the hill, Ive been very confused there before...I specialise in getting lost on trails though. 🤣🤣🤣

i'm really struggling to make the turns on steeps too! more we do it the easier it gets!!

use the back brake to side the rear a bit on the way in it helps me to start a tight turn

Yeah, I struggle, too mate. For me it's my bike position. Ive got a bad habit of leaning too far back and having my legs too bent. As you say, more practice will hopefully breed more confidence and allow for easing off the brakes to let the tyres roll better...I hope!🤣🤣🤣🤙🤙🤙
