The real test would be to try it with a salvaged Tesla that has its VIN blocked by Tesla to see if it allows the car to take a charge.

They actually do have signs posted with QR codes that say “scan to charge non-Tesla” but it just downloads and opens the app, you still have to manually select the stall.

@@donwald3436 The app is looking for a serial number really, to say you are at a specific location. That if you connect to the charger and cannot charge, then you can look for a secondary validation of why the scanned code doesnt work. Not the end of the world if you scanned an incorrect QR code. The app shouldnt be executing malicious code or actually directing you to a website instead.... So if you authorised another station to charge AND someone took that opportunity to start charging their car, you can see in app you are charging, yet you are not even plugged in, ending that session remotely. QED?

FYI, you don’t need to use the app anymore. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds, push up and in, then pull out the magic dock.

Tesla Magic Dock will work on all EVs with a CCS port (fast charging). After a quick Google search it would appear your Kia Niro Plug-In uses a J1172 charge port (level 2 slow charger). It will not work on most plug-in hybrids.
