My girlfriend (now wife) had a dodge dart with a slant 6 and it took little maintenance and a ton of abuse and never left us stranded.

Our shop tried to blow up a slant 6 one time back in the 80s. No oil, carb spring on backwards. It ran for quite a while, then spit a rod out the block, continued to run for quite a while, and finally locked up. It really put up a good fight!

@@61rampy65 Back in the 70's girlfriend drove her Dodge van home with the oil light on. Over 10 miles. Total damage was one stuck valve stem. Pulled the Head, fixed the valve and drove the thing 5 more years with no issues.

I would really like to see someone do a classic Slant 6 racing build using a Six Pack manifold designed for three 2 bbl carbs with three Holley Snipers instead. A turbo or super charger would be icing on the cake. Speedway Motors carries much of whats needed to pull this off along with Campbell Enterprises, Torque Storm and perhaps Summit Racing. Best!

Robby.! Ya gotta read this, got a killer idea: if you chop the roof you can still make it through the tunnel on Massive tires. And massive tires on that van = fantastic approach angle!

@jdau2b The Laymo is a novelty, these builds are supposed to be effective overland vehicles. The van is awesome.... but it will not be the most nimble for overlanding, Depends on the trails chosen but it will rock for lodging and storage of overlanding gear.

Back in the late 60's we got an old milk truck, was a dually, we used it on the farm, had a 3 speed manual shifter on the column, you drove standing up. That thing NEVER got stuck.

well that might hurt the van. at the end on his way out on the big bump you seen a bunch of sand jump off the front and land all over (including some down the carb) this will be interesting to see the outcome of the van when he's done though

You should install a side service window and serve hot cresents and cinnamon rolls out of the bread truck. Mounting a gas oven and small fridge would do it. Make it off-road capable and tasty. Hot dogs as well.

That bread van is a big honking truck. It barely fit in the tunnel. Wondering if you have thought about chopping the top a bit to help lower the center of gravity. Also if you did chop it you could build the roll cage before you reattached the top. maybe cut about 12 inches out of the height?

Here is my thoughts: Keep it close to stock height. Install a long arm kit with 4ft of travel. Place smaller wheels along the bottom rockers. Replace the 4cyl with a 4.0 out of a Toyota, Nissan, or Jeep. Finally a winch front and rear. Install inflatable seats for the rear to keep it light.
