After my first Yorkville PX-1700 was faulty. I picked up another one as I was impatiently waiting to hear its 1700 watt capabilities. After going through some specs it was time to hook it up and let it do it's thing.

It is a power house that's for sure. It is a very good match for my 18 inch bass bins. Pushes them pretty much to their max and sounds good doing it.

You dont have enough voltage out of the receiver to push a commercial amp. Your amp is only getting half the required voltage to meet it’s potential. Always check your outputs voltage vs power amp input sensitivity. The Adcom is a match. 80wpc can sound more dynamic and powerful , than a amp rated at 500 watts , when input /output voltage is mismatched.

You should do a db test on the yorkville to compare with ur adcom and the other ones you had in a previous video. I also have a px1700 that i run my MV-15 cvs off and they sound great

Have you tried a minidsp? with that you can set a high pass filter(among other things) so you dont have to push the woofers below the fs. My guess is that none of those speakers like freqenses below 30hz. I use one on my JBL 2242 and that makes a difference. Nice vid by the way, keep on going.

Yes most of the actual pre amps I usually use such as my Adcom GTP-500 have high a low fitlers on them and I use them all the time. This harmon/kardon that I have been using I picked up a couple of months ago for $50 and I have just been playing around with it. The filters are not adjustable so I'm not sure at what frequency they operate but it definitely helps. I'm looking at purchasing a HITACHI HMA-8300 power amp that actually has a subsonic filter but again just switch activated not adjustable but I'm curious on how that does.

Hey SV! Great Videos & Channel! I was wondering whether you plan to do any teardown of CV's Pro Range - e.g. CVXL?

I had one of these amps... 6 months... power switch stoped working & i couldn't trun it up... with out bad sound... my Yamaha htr 6290 runs my 3 way dual 18s so much cleaner... at 8 ohm it only puts out 130 rms... a side... this big amp was nothing but a let down...😢

Do you use one of those " Clean Box Pro" boxes to get your input voltage up. I hear alot of guys complaining that their home recievers don't have the input voltage to run pro amps. I'm looking to get my 1st pro amp and I've been doing some research about that. The newer pro amps now have rca in's and out's and adjustments for input voltage so they can be ran off a house reciever at full capacity. My Cerwin Vega E715s need more juice than my Kenwood KM-209 can give them. It supposedly puts out 310x2 @8 ohmmax and 155x2 @ 8 ohm but I don't know if it really does. The Kenwood amp moves my 12s and 10s great but not the 15s...so pro amp here I come. I was curious if you had any issues with the input voltage??? Love your channel bud, keep em coming.

Your right about most A/V receivers that have pre outs having a lower output voltage. If you look at the specs for most of them you will find that most are probably from 1V to 1.5V. You do need to know the rated input voltage of the amplifier as well. With most "pro amps" you should be good with at least a 2V pre out. You can still use a pre out with less but you will be leaving some clean power on the table because the output signal from the receiver will clip before the amplifier does. When this happens the clip indicator on the power amp will begin to illuminate before the amp reaches its actual clipping point. For what I use, in this particular video I was using my H/K receiver and to be honest I can't find the pre out voltage so who knows really. So with that long winded response, no I do not use anything to increase the pre out voltage. I use my Adcom GTP-500 pre amp most of the time which has a 2V output.

@@SavingVegas thanks for the info and the response, I appreciate all the info I can get. I don't want to buy an amp that I regret buying. They aren't exactly cheap. I like how your 15s move. They flex very far and I want mine to move like that. So how much power do you recommend for those e715? You would know better than most people. I was thinking of an amp that is rated around 500x2 so I had some head room, or would you go bigger? They are 400 w. I'll have to see what my Marantz sr6009 output voltage is, I have that going into a Yamaha ge-30 equalizer, im not sure if that changes the voltage or not. I'll check it then move forward.

I’m currently reforming an awesome pair of vs-120s but I’m stunned on getting the foam off of the paper cone without ripping it due to the Kevlar type material, any tips? - and also a tip on how to get those horrid stains out of the speaker grilles.
@SavingVegas
@SavingVegas Жыл бұрын
The 120s are a bit of a pain to get the foam off. The ones I have done had the black fabric on the inside of the foam. I use lacquer thinner and a heat gun to soften up the glue to make it easier to remove. For the grills if they are really badly stained I just buy new grill fabric and replace it not that hard to do.

Hey Saving Vega's I have inherited my Dad's Cerwin Vega VS-150's (he passed in March of 2021) and I guess at some point the og tweeter's went bad and he put some generic tweeter's in and are to small to mount on the cabinet screw holes, I've look on Ebay and have called around but with no success, was hoping u could point me in the right direction for a replacement. Thanks!
@SavingVegas
@SavingVegas Жыл бұрын
First off are the tweeters actually bad. Were they tested with an ohm meter? Do the replacement tweeters work when hooked up to the vs150 crossover? Only reason I am asking is because those crossovers are notorious for coming apart due to vibration. Although rare to have it happen in both speakers at the same time. If it is actually the tweeters that are bad The Speaker Exchange sells OEM parts. Keep checking their website, some might just pop up. If not Parts Express has a big selection of aftermarket replacement parts. Try to find something close to the specs. I'm pretty positive they are a 4 ohm tweeter. Try to find one with a high sensitivity rating to match that of the rest of the speaker (102dB). The crossover point between midrange and tweeter is 6000kHz and peak frequency is 22,000kHz. I would not worry too much about that, as long as it produces under 6000kHz to 20,000kHz which most tweeters do. Other than waiting to find some used for sale this may be your only option.

@@SavingVegas Unfortunately I don't have the original tweeter's, guessing he threw them away, haven't tested the speakers out wit tha generic tweeter's, subs need refomed, but thank you for the info I'll check them out! thanks again!

As I stated before, this type of music has bloated bass. In my opinion bass isn't about pumping out low thumping sound! I would like to hear classic rock from the 70s and 80s on this system. Van Halen comes to mind and does Pink Floyd. Now thats a better direction to assess this system.
