Finnish American here (born in Finland, raised in the US but go back every other year!) No worries, cucumbers in Finland are definitely not $9 anymore! Did Chris grow up eating any Finnish baked goods (korvapuusti, karjalanpiirakat)? If not, he should try making some! :)

I made it for a friend who grew up and lives in Finland and she said it was better than her mom’s! It is a huge hit at my house. We love kropsu plain or with jam or maple syrup.

The overall cost of living is more expensive in Finland, but I found a chart from My Life Elsewhere that says Canadians need to pay 15% more for groceries than Finns.

This whole isolation and self distancing is definitely hard. I'm not isolated as my job doing taxes is still open but we are no longer sitting with clients and keeping our distance with everyone. So strange to wash every surface and such after every single person that walks in the door. I wish I could isolate. Hi Rachel! A thought about why these muffins turned out better (though I'm sure the oil helped too): muffins should typically be stirred as LITTLE as possible when you bring the wet and dry mixtures together to prevent gluten formation. If before you finished the batter in the stand mixer and this time mixed by hand, that can make a HUGE difference in the texture. Happy baking and thanks for all the fun content!

I just made your muffins this morning and they are so good! I had to use plain yogurt because I was out of sour cream and all I had was mixed berries in the freezer but we all really liked them! Just a tip, when it comes to chocolate ganache after its all combined it solidifies. So after you mix you let it cool and stir occasionally, doing that will help it thicken and get to a nice consistency. It’s also important that your cream is super hot when you put the chocolate in. Wow I never knew Christopher has roots in Finland! Is he born here or has he lived his whole life in Canada?
