Coming from 5D2 to the RP I have had surprisingly little to complain about. The RP allows for extremely fast content creation with mobile workflows, which seems to be a much overlooked point. It does excellent in the studio and works well for virtually anything except fast action. The small form factor comes with drawbacks on ergonomics and battery life. Mirrorless has its quirks, I mean who decided a default 2 second image review would work well inside a viewfinder? In sum, a very nice camera, the low price let me spend more on glass (replacing EF L with RF L is .. taxing), and it can even do a bit of video.

I just ordered an RP this week, for a little over 600€. It hasn’t arrived yet, but it should be an open box, probably brand new camera. I don’t do video, and my main camera is an EOS R6. The lowest price I ever saw for the R8 is 1100€, so that’s pretty much twice the money. The cheapest EOS R are going for over 800€ at the end of their lives, and decent ones are between 900 and 1000€. To be fair, my only concerns are the smaller EVF and the fact that I’ll have to get different batteries for it, but the price of the RP beats everything. I also had a 6D Mark II prior to my R6, so I already know how the sensor behaves. If I like it, it will definitely stay. It’s cheap, lightweight, takes pictures, it’s full-frame, and uses RF lenses.

@@learningcameras I think you greatly underestimate the amount of work that goes into creating a sensor assembly, which obviously is the actual camera. It's not something you whip up in an afternoon. Canon does have viable sensor assemblies but they go into cameras sold at significantly higher prices than this, and I think what you see as an issue is a conscious decision on their part in that making a "better RP" would only cost them sales in higher priced ranges instead of poaching customers who are buying other brands. I've used Canon for a long time, still have a couple of Canons and a few lenses - EF things though. My latest acquisition was a Sony FX30, the winner in a race that Canon doesn't really have a horse in, not a worthy opponent really since the FX30 was 3 grand with XLR handle, memory card etc and I had lenses already.

the camera is cheap but those RF lenses are super expensive. And RF mount has almost zero third party lenses. If you want a cheap FF camera, go ahead for Sony A7Cii
@learningcameras28 күн бұрын
I think Canon has done a good job at putting out cheap RF lenses so I don't think that's valid anymore. There are 7 lenses under $500 and 9 under $600 with 3 solid primes under $250 right now. I definitely think they should open up the mount to offer more choices but I can build you a solid kit for Canon with RF lenses that would be just as cheap as Sony. The A7CII is great and I personally own it but it is drastically more expenses even with cheap 3rd party lenses

"Best camera for the price" The sony a6400 and A7 II would like to have a word...
@learningcameras18 күн бұрын
The A7II isn't available for sale anymore so the only way to get it is used or from 3rd party sellers. The a6400 is definitely a solid camera but not full frame hence why it isn't a direct comparison
@liammeigs481517 күн бұрын
@@learningcameras The a6400 has the a9's processor, extremely fast auto focus and came out in 2019. and New or not doesn't matter when the title of the video is "cheapest full frame camera YOU CAN BUY" since you can buy a A7 II for $400-$500 used at a local camera shop. Unfortunately Aswell Cannon is extremely restrictive with lenses and anyone looking for a full frame and isn't upgrading from another full frame will likely look used first.
@liammeigs481517 күн бұрын
Or a Fuji XM5 or Nikon Z30-50 will take better pictures and video since budgets usually mean the person might not be wanting to drop huge prices on a hobby or something they aren't sure how much they will enjoy.
@learningcameras17 күн бұрын
@@liammeigs4815 I can't make a statement on used camera prices...it's used! The price could literally be anything depending on condition. That means shutter wear, no warranty, unknown condition, risk...and I'm sure you could find a used RP for even less so that point isn't valid. Also Canon's lens selection under $600 is actually very good...it's the higher end lenses that have gaps. And most people buying cheaper cameras have under 3 lenses. But if you watch the video, I didn't say you should buy this camera! It says "tested" in the title. It's a review, I didn't get paid by Canon to say awesome things about the camera and there are quite a few negatives to this one
@liammeigs481516 күн бұрын
@@learningcameras I got a A6400 Used from a local shop that has a 6-month warranty on used gear, got with a couple lenses. The camera itself i checked has under 3k shutter count and is flawless not even scratched. also saw some used canon RP and A7 II's there all were under $700 same for A5 series and Varied 6's like the 6500 and 6100. I said buy local and support local camera shops, they'll clean and repair cameras sometimes Aswell and offer in shop warranties, but I know you aren't endorsed I was just saying having a full frame isn't worth the draw backs and buying that camera new makes 0 sense when camera stores with a7 II's exist or newer cropped frame APS-C cameras exist for cheaper.

But I still won't pay $800, £800 for it, I don't care what it does, people should stop spending huge sums of money on these gadgets and force the manufacturers to bring their stupid prices down, they are not hand building them to warrant these astronomical prices. Let them sell these cameras to companies when they have no other choice they will bloody bring the prices down. Because to say $800 is cheap, no, price is subjective, if you're a millionaire or a billionaire yes, $800 is nothing, but some people have to work a whole week to make that money. There is always something missing with these cameras. As you said, they intentionally remove things, even when they bring out an upgrade, they usually remove things and have them replaced with other features, and I don't call this an upgrade, Canon is notoriously known for doing this.
@learningcameras2 ай бұрын
Cameras have really not gotten more expensive over time when you factor in inflation and the amount of features new cameras pack is absolutely crazy compared to cameras 10 years ago. But the good news is phone cameras are also 10x better than they were 10 years ago so you might not NEED a dedicated photo camera like you did a decade ago so you can actually save money. But $800 for a camera that could easily last you 5 years and that can actually make you $ if you used it for photoshoots or take family memories is not a millionaire/billionaire accessory. I know plenty of people making way less than $100k that spend more than $800/year on starbucks...and the RP would last you more than a year and even years from now you could probably still sell it for $300+ so it wouldn't even be a $800 net cost. So if you value a camera more than starbucks, this is affordable

Sony A7 is actually the cheapest camera as of right now for those wondering.
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
It wasn't with the lens kit last time I checked but obviously sales can impact all of that. But the A7 is pretty old right now and struggles in a few areas like autofocus and video
@user-cd6jg3gv7k29 күн бұрын
@@learningcameras Good point. The A7 is purchase-able for $300 right now so getting the kit lens separately would probably be cheaper still. Autofocus doesn't compare to modern day standards but I would say it's plenty good for someone just starting out. Video is just bad I can't lie 😂
@learningcameras28 күн бұрын
@@user-cd6jg3gv7k Actually most camera stores have actually taken off the A7 since it's officially discontinued so the only ways to buy it are used and through 3rd party sellers without a valid manufacture warranty which is why you can sometimes find lower prices. Obviously still a decent camera but you can't compare those prices with the RP that can still be purchased new from 1st party sellers

I'd never buy a Canon camera just because the cripple hammer Canon does. The only cripple hammer Sony does is 15fps for non Sony lenses.
@learningcameras2 ай бұрын
I really don't think there new cameras are crippled. Canon for example has full frame 4k60 in the R6, R6II, R5, and R5II...Sony you have to spend $6k+ just to get full frame 4k60 in a hybrid camera. Sony also limits fps and only gives you 7fps tops unless you go down to uncompressed raw and doesn't give you any faster speeds in electronic shutter, unless you spend $6000+. For every feature you could argue Canon is crippling, I could give you another one on Sony to even things out. The least crippled camera brand right now is actually Nikon which is crazy
@Sqeezy32 ай бұрын
@@learningcameras We can agree on the Nikon thing, but 4k60 shouldnnt be used without slowing down the footage and usually you do a detail shot, where a bit of a "macro" is a bit better, but yeah, it isn't there. 10 fps for a non A9 or A1 camera isn't an issue as well. Why was 10 fps a few years ago a really fast camera and suddenly, when there is an option for 30 or 120 fps, 10 fps is unusable for sports. Faster is better, but is it really that bad. But yeah, Canon and Nikon have "cheaper" faster fps. All you said are real issues, you heard my opinion. Yes, Sony cameras could be better for the price, but there isn't a new Sony camera without IBIS and a small battery. The biggest issue i had which led me to Sony and not to Canon or Nikon is the lens selection, which is the most important thing you need for a camera. And yes, if you are nitpicking, then Nikon has the best lens selection, because you can adapt Sony E to Nikon Z
@learningcamerasАй бұрын
@@Sqeezy3 I'm only arguing your statement that new Canon cameras like the R5/R6 are crippled. I HIGHLY disagree with that. Some things are better with Sony and some are better with Canon & Nikon but I can give you tons of examples that show that Canon cameras are not crippled. I do think Canon is more restrictive but in the same way the iPhone 16 Pro is massively more restrictive than a Samsung S24 Ultra but the iPhone 16 pro is still just as capable at producing amazing images/video...but that's what makes them easier to use in the field so I understand the philosophy behind it even though I wish I had unlimited customization personally
