What is the electron microscope? Cell phone or macro lens? Pretty decent image quality. Can't be a "cheapest on Amazon," can it? I guess that is a vote for the cheapest on... series. Either electron microscope or full frame landscape lens!

@@ThatSB i have a multy tool in the kitchen cabinet and i use it for fast fixing jobs just because the task sometimes doesn’t worth the effort to go to the truck and get the tools i would have used to do it. Also at work (constructions) i do carry in my pocket either a victorinox farmer or a leatherman skeletool because sometimes i use it for small tasks that pop up and instead of carrying 3-4 toolboxes i just carry the one i pick for that particular job and not the “just in case” tools or toolboxes. Now if things get nasty of course I wouldn’t rely on backups, i do get the proper tools to do it. Just imagine the multi tools are the first aid department and if needed continue to the doctor

Great video. But the can opener is Way more effective if used on the Opposite side ... that is on the Outside of the multitool. If you open on the inner side of the multitool your fingers and the all body of the multitool is actually getting on the way and does not make a good opening.

I have the Gerber Center Drive, I love it. I lost the Phillips tip from flicking the pliers open, but I replaced it easy enough with a spare tip I had from a Stanley multi-tip screwdriver I got at Walmart. Back at around 8:00 I noticed what looked like rust around one of the posts holding the scales; unless it was chili from the failed can opening attempt. Funny story about can openers. I still have and carry with me a P-38 (John Wayne) can opener. I got it when I was in the Boy Scouts and have kept it ever since. It is pretty much naturally blued now with age, and it rides on a bead chain around my neck. So one day at the office they are going to have a treat for this team because they met a goal on a project. So the managers decide to serve them nachos with cheese sauce. So they get the chips, the little paper boats, and a little pot and hot plate. They even get jars of sliced Jalapenos. The person who gets the cheese sauce gets these huge cans that have plastic replaceable lids on them. I suppose they thought the cans had big pull tabs under the plastic cover but no, they were proper tin cans. So four managers are all scratching their heads trying to figure out how they are going to get these cans open. One of them decides to run to the local grocery store to see if they can buy a crank can opener. Then one of them remembers that I am known as the office MacGyver because I always seem to be ready for things. So while one of them drives to the store, the other three bring me this can. They ask if I can open it with my multi-tool. I pull the P-38 off my neck and open the first can in about three minutes (big can.) I show them how while I am doing it and let them borrow it for the remaining three cans. By the time the one manager has returned with a new can opener the other three are serving nachos to their teams. Later on I go to collect my John Wayne only to find them all in an office passing it around and talking about it, and how they had seen it around my neck but never knew what it was about. I had to explain it to them. All of them younger than myself had never seen such a thing, didn't know it existed, and where it had come from. Now two of them have bought them off of Amazon and carry them on their key rings. I still maintain that the John Wayne is the most useful tool I have ever owned.

Nice review. Thank you. On the can opener. I use the can opener on my SAK or multi tool several times a week because that is the only can opener type I have owned for the past 10+ years. I don't remember the last time I used the over-hyped bottle opener, other than for the screw driver. The pliers are my most used tool. I might see if these are still available for my truck glove box.

As a boater and a fisherman I personally think my Leatherman is the most important thing I carry, it's saved my rear on so many occasions I can't count... BUT, I always say I have one in storage at the bottom of the Chesapeake bay, years ago in some shallow water my prop picked up a crab pot and the wire wrapped it up of course. So I'm out there working on it with my Leatherman making decent time when some genius rides up sees what I'm doing, says hey I got just the tool and throws me a pair of bolt cutters... Well it was either get smashed in the face and drown or drop my leather man catch the bolt cutters and still almost drown... Long story short it took me twice as long with the bolt cutters, my first Leatherman is still in storage in the Chesapeake bay, I went through 3 cheap jobs before I finally sucked it up and bought a Leatherman 300. I've managed to hold on to it for almost 6 years now and don't go fishing or on the water without it... If I need to use it over the side it gets tied off with a line! I also keep a Gerber in my truck that works really well... The cheap ones seem to twist out in the handles and then get off center.... Sorry about the long story but I do love my Leatherman, it's made the difference between driving the boat in vs having to make the call of shame... " I need a tow"!

I kept wondering if the various holes along the multi-tool handles were just decorative, or had some useful function as guides or measures of some sort. The teeth along the inside of the handles (I believe you referred to them as "gimping") seemed to me as though they could be used to grip something the needle-nose pliers wouldn't fit around. A makeshift channel-lock or cap snappler, as it were. On my swiss army knife, the fish-scaler is embossed with inches along one side and metric along the other. Also, both the corkscrew and large Phillips head screwdriver are hinged in the middle so as to become "T"-handled tools for better traction.

Leatherman replaced my supertool 300 EOD for free after it was lost in a training exercise. They expedited shipping for free to arrive before deployment, too. Great American company that takes care of their customers and have an amazing product. The individual who took care of the replacement was a Navy EOD veteran who was an expert on the needs of the tool. It's no shock to why they're so good. Needless to say, if you're shopping for one and you can afford one manufactured in the US, go for a Leatherman.

Have you ever considered getting in touch with Esther Emery, from Fouch Family Off Grid? She's the daughter of Carla Emery, the writer of the Encyclopedia of Country Living. Would be a nice collab to see you guys visit each others' homesteads.

Thank you for testing the can opener, something that many people disregard. However, Like the Stanley multi-tool, the can opener is not on the optimal side for right-handed users (Lefties are OK). Great review, thank you.

What an amazing time we live in where we can get quality tools for literally pennies on the dollar that actually work!

I wonder if it might have worked better for opening cans if it was used in the other hand, as the scale was getting in the way.

I was looking at the Gerber centerdrive, but I was very skeptical after seeing some of the reviews on it. I ended up purchasing a much cheaper model Gerber. I was extremely disappointed in the build quality. A day or two after, I was going past the Cabela's in Hammond, Indiana. Stopped in and purchased a Leatherman Wave Plus. Let's just put it this way. It didn't take long for me to fall in love with it. Unlike the $60 Gerber, The Leatherman didn't have a single piece of plastic on it. Off the top of my head, I don't remember what model the Gerber was. It was one that had the slide out pliers like the centerdrive.

I bought the same multi tool from Costco a while back, but it was red and had snap-on branding.

Great video! Hey you talked about the “red hats vs the black hats” in one of your earlier videos and you mention hunting in “drives!” Can you tell us about that soon?

Blender you can put unusual stuff in it to blend it and at the end throw a bunch of bolts in there and they hit the blender button and see what happens

I’ve had 3 Gerber multi tools in the army and all 3 broke in several places. All Gerber products I’ve ever had sucked and were never good. However, I received 2 Leathermans for my deployments 10years ago and I tried to break one and never could do it.
