You just answered what I was going to ask...I have a 7X Pro S S and wondered if we had the strength coach. I didn't like that they only had the running coach. I setup my strength workouts on mine as custom workouts...bodyweight abs, chest and arms workouts. But I want to see Garmin's ideas.

Great video ! I've always used the Strength activity on my watch , but only the Free option where I'm doing my own thing . Nice hat, Dave 😎. Love T-Rex Arms and their holsters 💪💪💪

Yes I've almost always planned workouts separately and just logged what I do in the "free" option of the app to track volume. As for T-Rex, I've got a couple of their products, thought the hat looked good and it's a IYKYK type item 😎

Garmin disappoints every time, they're clueless when it comes to anything other than run, bike, swim. If you only do run, bike, swim, you'll be so happy, but if you're a CrossFit, Power Lifter, Bodybuilder, Hyrbid athlete (Hyrox, DekaFit), or someone who likes to do bootcamps and other multi-activity workouts, you're going to be very unhappy. Sure I create something that's better than nothing, but it sucks big time, and the only data I can analyze over time is my running and cycling.
@darinrohatinsky5692 ай бұрын
I too wish Garmin would give strength training some TLC too. I added bodyweight abs, and power blocks chest and arms workouts but my running days are over as I tore one ACL at 30 and the other at 40...I still play tennis, pickleball and surf for cardio and start them on my watch to track, but would really like progression advice for strength as it is the missing link.

This is pretty cool, but it's definitely missing something by not adjusting based on actual performance. Also, for me, this is late to the party since I've already built all of my workout programs, but I guess it's great for others who haven't done so (or don't even know how). My main wish is that they change the default watch view between sets on the Epix Pro. It shows the workout overview instead of a more useful workout in progress screen and there's no way to change that default. I had a Venu 2 before the Epix Pro and it had a far better weight lifting screen so imagine my disappointment when it turned to shit on a much more expensive Garmin Epix Pro. You didn't mention it, but does the Fenix 8 have the same screen in between sets that's used on the Epix Pro?

Or just being able to add a custom Exercise to the workout. Currently you can only select exercises already on the list (unless there’s another way of doing customization of an exercise)
@carloscssr2 ай бұрын
Is that only for the epix 8, or is it transversal to all watches? Like the epix pro gen 2 ,for example? Thanks
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
Hi Carlos, thanks for watching! From what I can tell these features are enabled for people with Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3 right now. There is nothing new in the actual workouts on the watch so my guess is it ends up on watches like the Pro Gen 2 in a future update

I have a barbell and a bench, not full gym equipment. Can i still benefit from these workouts?
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
Yes, I think the best approach is to select "full gym equipment" as the primary lifts are all barbell lifts. Then use substitutes for the secondary exercises to make them barbell or bodyweight. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! 💪🏃

Question - can you create custom workouts and if so, will the device tell you what was the last weight you lifted?
@mohammedal-mutawa204Ай бұрын
Yes you can, you go to the connect app, then to the training & planning section, then to workouts then you press the create a workout button and you can basically create your own bespoke workout.
@thomas1988de12 ай бұрын
Entering the reps and weight still feels like a waste of time since there is no proper progression chart or display of the last values. I hope that’s something they address in the future.
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm hoping this is the first step in an investment in strength training. They mentioned the improvements to strength training all over in the marketing for the Fenix 8, but it's still overall not too deep of a feature
@Mierze19j872 ай бұрын
This is basically the only thing that the strength app lacks. To automatically, if we do a certain number of reps, upgrade to a higher number or weight for the next workout. And if we can't do it, to downgrade or leave the weight in the set. But... I would wait. Garmin Coach for running and cycling introduced the new Garmin Run and Ride Coach, based on AI and it is adaptive. I think a similar issue would also work in the case of bodybuilding and powerlifting. So observe over time how the plan and Garmin Coach itself behaves, if you add other workouts in other disciplines, how you sleep (whether good or bad), what is the recovery time and its quality. The adaptive Garmin Run Coach is currently changing my workouts after waking up. It doesn't do it right away, so observe. And I think Dave, you should whisper something to Garmin, maybe they will listen, because someone who records always has more clout than the average user, who is anonymous. Your comments may be valuable because I feel like Garmin can't hire real strength training experts to create strength training plans.@@DaveDoesFitness

You did not show us whether the watch shows animations of the exercises before the start of the series. Do you know if the Enduro 3 has the same training plans as the new workout? Thank you.
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks for watching. I tried so hard to get the length of the video down I tried to edit out as much that wasn't new as possible. These workouts have animations for some of the exercises, but not all of them. If you see me scroll through the workout list you can see a little "play" icon next to the exercises that have animations. As for the Enduro 3, I do not have that watch for testing, but my understanding is they have the same software base (Fenix E as well) so I would assume that they have the same training plans.

I tried Garmin strength workouts twice and never again lol. It was so clunky and I had to push the buttons a billion times. When I didn’t know what the lift was I had to search for animations, hit wrong button, messed up rep numbers etc. I wish it would just go through the workout, tell me the weight and show me animation( like automatically toggle through those things as you lift) so you don’t waste your time hitting buttons.

Yeah, the app definitely takes some getting used to and its not very intuitive to navigate around. I really think that for Garmin to stay on top they need to invest pretty heavily in software designers and software developers. They stay at the top with hardware, but the UI and smoothness are really not as good as the competition. Thanks for watching! 💪🏃

May we know what do you use now for strength training?
@patricklachance68802 ай бұрын
This feature is probably not something regular gym rats with a schedule are going to need or use. But it would be good for more of the amateur or beginner to strength training.
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
Definitely. I think the beginner population is where this is targeted and who will benefit the most. For someone more closely customizing their lifting logging the workout under the "free" option is still the simplest thing to do 😑 Thanks for watching! 💪🏃
@stvm2 ай бұрын
Does anyone actually use programs like this? I always found the watch to just be a completely unnecessary distraction when lifting. I just set it to “strength” hit go and forget about the watch while I just do my thing. Don’t enter lift type, sets or reps or anything. It’s just to record that I lifted for 90 minutes on Wednesday or whatever so I can look back at my historical activity levels. In the garmin connect app after I will just write the reps/weight for my main sets that day if I ever need to reference it. Entering everything into the watch while doing it is a huge pain in the ass, even trying to enter each set/reps/weight into the workout by through the app after the fact is a pain. The fact that they’re adding support for macro cycle programming, like basing lifts based off a max with different percentages week to week, is pretty nice and basically the bare minimum to even consider this as a main app for tracking lifting IMO. Maybe one day it’ll get there. And by “there” I mean where it’s actually more convenient to use the watch/app than to just type it into a simple note taking app.

Garmin said this strength training program will not trickle down to epix pro/f7 pro. Only f8 and beyond
@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
That would really suck if that's the case. Can you share where you read that? Are you certain you're not thinking of the new UI? I know they have said that of the new UI as it was written fresh for the new models, but haven't heard that about strength programs.
@tidesofkali2 ай бұрын
@@DaveDoesFitness not the UI. That I know . This new software program is locked for F8 and future devices. Like how some advance metrics are locked away from older models. Like how forerunner 255 does not have training readiness while 265 has. Garmin is doing dirty to epix pro(my watch ) /F7 pro owners You can check Garmin forum,one of the threads

@DaveDoesFitness2 ай бұрын
You can find some progress graphs in connect IQ, but I have to admit I didn't use that much beforehand so I'm not sure if they are a new addition with the Fenix 8. Volume is one of the graphs there though. You can find them under Activities -> Strength Training
