I've really enjoyed this journey you've been having with sub 12 slug use. I've been doing exactly the same. Keep up the trials as I always look forward to them 👏👍

It's great fun trying this stuff... Maybe not the next be all and end all,but it's great learning all the foibles of the slugs.😉

They do seem to be reasonably consistent in both of the rifles, will be interesting to see what happens at longer ranges. I wonder what the coating is and what effects that may be having. It could be adding lubrication, but if it is waxy, it may be adding some friction. Likely it is also is reducing lead deposition into the barrel. But a coating can be less consistent than the slug diameter, so may add more variability into the results. You would expect the slug to deform less than the skirt on a pellet and would load more parallel to the rifling. Very interesting video!

Same old thing eh mate, more questions than answers... I'll get them through the chokeless barrel too when it dries out a bit. Should be interesting as they definitely feel more consistent on loading than most the shorter sizes.

Found this test really interesting, thanks. Perhaps I’ve miss understood the slug/sub 12 thing, thought they were a ‘no no’ for sub 12’s. However this video and the comment by cjnev9618 show they shouldn’t be dismissed as a waste of time.

Hi mate. They can be fantastic but there's so many factors that can cause inconsistencies that need ironing out before I even look at barrel twist rates and valving setup. One of my early vids using the makos was mega They were fantastic in the wind and way easier to judge the drifts. But the following batches wernt anywhere near as good ...

@@tillysgunstocks Many thanks for the reply. I did Google this but didn’t seem that conclusive so I wondered if I could lean on your pellet expertise: I have a tin (been opened) of Bisley Magnums which I’ve had for possibly twenty years. They don’t look bad, still dark but do you think I could use them or not. Won’t be put out if you don’t have the time to answer this as I appreciate you’re a busy guy. Best wishes, Nick

You would have thought the FX smooth twist barrels would perform well with the slugs.. Only got a. 22 FX and the slugs for them ARE WAY too heavy

I had just searched exactly this topic and didnt even realize this video was from today till i got to the end of the video. I was looking if i can use these hn 20-21 grain slugs in my low power .22 air rifle. Its normally got about 20 fpe with 15-18 grain pellets

You can use cherry pits to fill the bag. Cheap and works great.

I had quite good results from the 13gr H&N slugs compared to other makes or similar weights and even the lighter 10gr ones too

I’m thinking that these could benefit a lot from washing (and re-lubing) and sorting by weight and diameter. Bit of a pain in the butt but food for thought.

On the whole then, slugs are a waste of the extra money in Sub12, they're not cheap by any stretch & the results leave something to be desired. Also, a lot depends on whether the bore is "Choked" or "Parallel", + the spiral pitch of the "Rifling".

i also use the H&N slugs and it's true you really can feel the difference in manufacturing quality, I use the H&N 23gr slugs in my coyote(full power version roughly 33ft/lb 40j) and my rifle prefers them shot a 12mm group with them yesterday

Question? Are you planning to run the 16grain aswell. I've been scratching my head about the power loss I know there's more friction with a longer bearing surface, but.. the internal ballistics of a PCP usually suit heavier as best for making power longer time to accelerate etc I know you .177 guys will have a freak out with 16grains but it's totally normal for a .22 that weight is completely acceptable for the mechanism to power it. If you can get back some of that lost power granted your not then running fast but for me the BC is all about beating the pesky wind and even if they start close to .22 speeds they should overtake long range. Whether the low speeds will give them enough RPM to stabilise correctly??? Maybe just shoot and see testing, might be that friction always wins.

Another most enjoyable video, you're totally dedicated to trying all options out there and to see if all anomalies can be ironed out, you're obviously an extremely good shot and have two beautiful target rifles..of the two which do you consider the best?

It's hard to choose between them really. They are quite different in feel. The 9015 is highly reworked though. Eventually I'll see what I can do with the xti as I reckon I can make some further gains.its completely standard Internally still

Thanks for the reply I really like the look of the XTI and it's super accurate but i also like the more unconventional pellet probe system on the 9015 along with the aluminium chassis again super accurate i'm toying with the idea of buying one in sub 12Ft Lb but a bit undecided which one,I usually shoot my air rifles for pest control and have a couple of FX's etc,but I'm quite interested in bench style target shooting, back in the mid 80's I bought and still have two walnut stocked Titan air rifles one .22 and one .177 both virtually unused but they aren't side lever and you have to pull back on a side bolt bit of a pain very accurate though as they have lothar walther barrels but as i say a bit outdated to today's loading systems, still I really look forward to your next video offering...brilliant,informative and nice to see someone who is as dedicated to the sport as yourself, and of course, hell of a shot fair play, kind regards,Phil.

the 21g h&n are surprisingly accurate through my hw97k 22 cal sub 12 . pellet drop is less than inch over 25yards compared it's usual 16g aa field 👍🏻

Tommy, why not turn the power up closer to 12ft/lbs and try them?

It would then make his rifle shoot other pellets at over 12ft/b and thus he would be both admitting and filming himself manufacturing a Section 1 firearm without a certificate .......

I've tried these in my fx dreamline & crown. Things didn't go well. Not that accurate, put them over the chrono & lost 2-3 ftlbs in both rifles. Shame, as I had high hopes.
