Testing the KKMoon 5000W spot welder with 0.2mm pure nickel strip

well, you can improve performance of this welder a little. first i soldered negative battery tab directly to the brass bus bar, for some reason that has not been done by manufacturer - big soldering iron is needed. then i noticed that brass tip holders are heating up - so there is narrow spot for current flow , so i made my own holders from thick copper tube and tips from 6mm copper rod. it is possible to weld .2mm pure nickel strip now.

My welder had the negative battery tab already soldered directly to the brass bus bar. I didn't notice anything with the tips on mine. In the end, I bought a Malectrics spot welder and will be doing a video soon

You get what you pay for, simple as that. Buy a Kweld and you will never have any problems with 0.2 mm. More expensive but as said you get what you pay for.

so it doesn't spot weld 0.2mm then. it has a little brother called DX10. it's probably won't do too. btw how much is the different of the price of pure vs plated? coz there are so many scammers in the market. some of them might be selling aluminum plated and calling it pure since it doesn't rust on salt water test it's hard to figure if it is a scam.

this spot welder may work on 18650 with .1 to maybe .15 strips, but it's way too small for what I needed it for, 32700 with 0.2 pure nickel strip

I have to say, this spot welder is not bad, it cans spot weld PURE 0.15mm nickel strip or 0.2mm NICKEL PLATED nickel strip. But 0.2mm PURE nickel strip, it seems to be weak. It can also do nickel to nickel (0.15mm PURE), So basically, with double 0.15mm pure nickel, you will have 0.3 MM PURE NICKEL!!! So it works and I made my battery pack very esily. I'm so happy XD. P. S This spot welder can also do maybe TRIPLE NICKEL. Not bad after all...

Can't the cheaper spot welders also do 0.15mm pure nickel? And isn't the added resistance of stacking nickel strips undesirable? This spot welder seems bad value to me at $80+

@@MINIzguy Well it's a little bit to high the price but no, stacking nickel together decreases the resistance. I know this from experience and of course I tested it and it is true. Because stacking nickel togheter means putting strips in parallel, and if more resistors are in parallel, the total resistance must me lower due to Ohm's Law. So, it can't spot weld 0.2mm PURE, but you can spot weld multiple PURE 0.15 and you will still get less resistance. The price of this should be at least 60 - 65$ by the way... Cheaper spot welder can't weld well 0.15mm PURE. Welding the PURE nickel strip is harder. The disadvantage is that you will need a double length of the nichel strip in case you have to do double nickel... Well... There are pro and cons. By the way, I was able to make my 12P4S battery pack, and IT WORKS PERFECTLY FINE. Drawing 50A from it is absolutely not a problem (And I didn't use double 0.15mm nickel, only single strip). So it seems like it works for battery packs...

I have open them I learn that cheaper in this tool brand isn’t worth it for heavy use they stop working from cell issues and electronics , I just got a 6yr or more 1.5Ah original and still holds up till today they are worth when you purchase new from authorize store ima try to do the hack you have done with the lights might use it to test things out …

How the heck is this possibile this damn thing costs 92€ and IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK ACTUALLY it says that it can spot weld 0.2mm MAX nickel strips but in your video it seems like this thing is just a $ BURNER. Good spot welder for about 100€ or $ is non existent??? Where i COULD find a good one i need this and probably thanks to this video im not gonna burn my 92€

Yea imagine my disappointment after spending this money :( I'm going to try and boost it with a 3S LiPo pack, but I wouldn't recommend buying this in general. I'll be $130+ into this spot welder and I think you can buy a KWeld for $200

I will try to boost it with SUPER CAPACITORS. The are very powerful and can deliver insane amount of current. I Will Also try to charge it to precisely 8.4V with my current limited power supply and Press a lot on the nichel strip and then spot weld (6 holes instead of 4). Maybe it will get BETTER... I cant buy other spot welder unfortunately.... This is my only possibility so i will modify it and hopefully it will get BETTER or in case i will do it with 0.15mm and maybe i spot welder a strip over another (hopefully it can do it) so that 2 strips one over another makes 0.3mm which is decent.

And here on amazon i found it a 90€ so is a little bit cheaper. I WILL DO MY BEST (I will create a 4s 9p battery pack with ICR18650 22P - SAMSUNG) I hope that it can spot weld the 0.15mm PURE nickel strip.... Otherwise i have to modify it and i really hope that this is not going to break the mosfets. Can you try and make a video about it maybe? Modify your spot welder and maybe it will work better... The choice is yours. I saw some videos that in the circuit if you add a capacitor after a DIODE in the circuit, this capacitor saves the circuit from Low voltage spikes, because the Gates of the mosfets if driven with Low voltages can cause the mosfet to not saturate correctly. Adding this capacitor should make it BETTER but you have to find this diode... Search for 'cheap spot welder mod'. The larger the capacitance the betteri it is (i will try 4700 uf but even 2200uf can make this '5000w' spot welder BETTER). And also i will add capacitors in parallel with the battery. Hopefully it will work... I NEED to spot weld the 0.2mm no matter what! YOU can maybe try this and maybe it will work and work and you can spot weld 0.2mm. I cant try this because i have to order the spot welder and i cant order it now i have to wait something 10 days... If you want try to do this modificaton maybe it will be worth it!
