Great review Barbatos! I have the cheaper waterfall spray booth in the video. To answer Barbatos’ questions. The fans suck the air out through the blue filter like the other foldable spray booths on the market. When I am airbrushing, I see the heavy white paint particulates fall down the waterfall and it builds up along the black filters at the bottom of the waterfall (I see white paint buildup). For the lighter paint particulates, they get sucked into the blue filter by floating past the waterfall where there is the opening along the sides (I see white paint buildup on the blue filter). The water hose in between the clear plastic wall and the filter is pretty long. When I pull the clear wall out and downward (like a drawbridge going down), I can pull that water hose out a little more. The hose is long enough to let you pull the clear wall down and have it lay flat on the table. This allows you to freely take out the blue filter to clean or replace. You can put the clear wall back up straight and into position and the hose will just be curved and taking up a little more space behind the waterfall. One last thing, if the water doesn’t fall perfectly down the plastic wall, you can use you finger to lead the water straight down the side of the wall. You do that to both sides and the water will fall down the entire clear wall for full coverage.

This system won't really allow you to spray inside safely, as it isn't a big enough filter to remove VOCs. I have this same setup and I might make a video to show VOC readings to demonstrate how much, if any, it helps. Problem is good VOC meters are difficult to find

@Hey_MMoe M thank you, I'm new to KZbin and my channel has a long way to go but I appreciate the support! Safety is the most important thing so once I get a VOC scanner I'll do a full rundown on the different types of booth setups. Fume smell and vocs are very different and I think that gets lost in a lot of channels, I got eosilphic pneumonia when I was younger and it almost killed me from a chemical exposure, so it's critical to take this stuff seriously as rare weird stuff like that does happen. Luckily I got better after about 2 years
@HobbyBench Жыл бұрын
@Hey_MMoe M I just purchased a $400 NIST calibrated VOC detector, it's not a commercial unit but it will work well enough for testing various methods of booth exhaust. I'll be testing a standard master booth (newer version with updated fans) and the kaizo/ophir mobile fort water curtain spray booth in the following configurations - exhaust to outside under garage door - exhaust to 5gal bucket stock - exhaust to 5gal bucket with carbon filter - exhaust into working space (maybe, I don't see a huge point to this other then setting a baseline) Will take me a week or two to post this with my newborn taking up a lot of my time. If it's popular I'll buy a pace unit (with upgraded fan) and the kaizo innovation x shown in this video for testing.

You can remove the fan itself to show the inside (just lift the fan / white part up and it just sits on the seal) when you wanted to remove the metal to show the waterfall, it'll just be from the other side 😅 Also the black sponge thing in the water is to filter the paint from the pump / reservoir, paint gets stuck and tacky looking on it instead of going through the tubes and clogging it thankfully (seen some that didn't and yikes). Great video as always :)!

I see in the old unit that is available you have to choose 110v or 220v I currently live in the US but may move back to South Korea in the next couple years. So if the new unit isn't switchable I'll probably opt for the first generation unit use it for now and then upgrade to the newer model in 220 when hopefully availability isn't so much of an issue.

I bought the one on the right, and am VERY pleased, but I will add that the plastic that the water cascades over is NOT resilient to laq thinner, or other harsh chemicals, it will frost, so I do use a non-silicone polish like you do to ease clean-up, and use alcohol or acrylic thinner to clean the panel. The other panels are fine with thinners. The pull and venting is excellent, and overall maintenance is really not bad at all. Also, if you are using Rain-x or other silicone containing products in the model/paint area, how are you avoiding fish eyes? I try to avoid most all silicone products, including polishes, in the model room.

Question about the 3-filter water booth - does the water smell of solvents for a long time if you use lacquer paints? I feel like all the overspray getting caught in the water is going to take forever to evaporate and require the booth to be ran way longer than if you sprayed in a regular, dry booth... Wouldn’t humidity from the waterfall affect the paint? I’d definitely be mindful of water splash hitting the model that close even with the fan suction. Really like these videos. Are mold and humidity increase a problem? A mask can help with overspray in your lungs but once you take it off and get the solvent vapors/smell, it only does so much. I have been exposed to so many solvents/epoxies over the years well before regulation and safety made it too expensive to do in house. It is a wonder I do not have any ill effects yet and still have a very sensitive sniffer. A paint booth/room is supposed to isolate you from the vapors with PPE, you can't really do that in your basement with these unless you have a room exhaust for lacquers/solvents, etc, also. It permeates the entire house especially if your HVAC is in the basement you are using as your paint room. I have been searching and asking for any water based low VOC paints that are durable, but I guess people would be making videos for them if there were any. That is what I would like to find. These paints are amazing looking, but in the winter, I have nowhere to use them.

Great video. I'm not sold on it tho. I think for me I rather just make my own cause I like to have plenty of space and not be stuffed in a small area to work with. I got a ship that is about 17 inches to 20 inches long. I've worked with all kinds of smells and other fumes and I've never really had a problem. I think I go with a filter with a huge fan system or even double fans just smaller and build a booth that is wide enough for me to work in. Tho it does give me idea's to have a small shelf system for spray guns and parts and cleaner stuff right there.
