The “dead fish shirt” is actually a traditional Japanese method of printing that fishermen used to use in the 1800s to record their catches. The art is called “gyotaku” and is still used today as t-shirt designs which is fairly common to see in Hawaii.

To all the people in the comments saying "do this and it would have worked!" "Do this and it would have been better!" The whole point is that 5 Minute Crafts doesnt give ANY extra information in their videos. They dont tell you what kind of shirt to use. They dont tell you what kind of paint to use most of the time. They just show you things and it just works. That is the point of this. I dont even follow/watch this person I just saw it in my feed. But seriously, people are NOT getting the point of why these arent working. It's not because she's "doing them wrong" it's because there is not much information on how to do it right.

The one with the tights is theoretically just old fashioned screen printing. The tights are the screen printing mesh, and the mod podge is the screen block. I do have suspicions about the tights themselves, though, because it *very* hard to get them to stretch enough to be tight, which you need for a clean print. They may have switched it to a non stretch mesh fabric. Though if you can get it to stratch tightly enough, the theory is sound.

Debbie Lough I know I'm really late to the game here, but I did try this as shown for a jacket. I used a cheap pair of pantyhose from a value pack. for the bleach hack... It comes to my mind that other than the wrong cutter (you actually would rather use metal, since some plastics may absorb part of the bleach, hence release less product on the fabric) and the wrong shirt (some fabrics are just bleach resistant, you may wanna check the label with the washing directions), you may have choose the wrong "bleach"! I take you're from somewhere in north America... I've learned from experience that sometimes people from that area call bleach a pretty wide range of generic whitening/stain removing laundry products. Among those, only one can actually "eat" the fabric dye away like shown in the hack and that's the "real" bleach, aka Sodium Hypochlorite. Using anything else will give no results at all...

If you used a shirt with mostly synthetic fabric like polyester, polyamide, acryl fibre etc. bleach doesn't work. The colour is part of the plastic, it cannot be removed. It has to be cotton, linen or rayon (which is - in my opinion - too delicate, bleaching it will probably damage the fabric too much). Both shirts look like they could be made from polyester.

The first hack is a diy screen printing. You have to be careful when dragging the paint down.
@daniellehenderson69065 жыл бұрын
The pantyhose project was a sort of DIY screenprint but you can buy a real screen printing kit online for that price. And on the bleach project: bleach will not work on many synthetic fabrics like polyester. Your shirts may be polyester or other synthetic material/blend. Cotton or a similar natural material would have definitely worked on the black shirt.
