@@mikehoncho3099 I have used both older weed eaters and newer ones and honestly the newer ones are a LOT better at keeping the line at the right length. I am assuming you are thinking of the bump release style weed whackers that you bump the ground to release more line when you get low, but now a days there are also ones that automatically release more line as the line gets to short. So if your question is "How does it let out more line when you can not bump the head to let out more line?" the answer is "that is uses an automatic release mechanism instead of a bump release" it is a lot more convenient and easy to work with when it is working but it is a lot more of a pain in the ass when it breaks because it a more complex than just simply changing a broken/worn out spring.

As someone with a lot of pine trees on their property, it's actually funny seeing you think of someone vacuuming their yard as goofy. The collection system on my mower vacuums up the needles very very well atd even chops them up (obviously). So, which would be more silly, me taking 5+ hours a week to do it manually or taking about an hour to drive a machine around the yard?

I’m 76 and had been looking for something lightweight to mow/edge five small lawns on the front side of my house. Based on your review, I purchased the battery version of this tool ($159 on Amazon). It works pretty well. I’d give it an 8 out of 10. It’s not for large lawns or heavy dry weed whacking. It works best if the grass is not too wet as well. It has a small issue in that the trimmer unit comes loose from the base wheeled unit if you roll with any twisting motion because the orange clamping mechanism is too short. It works best going straight and I find it works good with a back and forth vacuuming style. I’ll keep using my Ego mower and trimmer on my large back lawns but this B&D unit is perfect for smaller areas.

I legitimately have some neighbors who could use something like this. Some of the newer construction homes are built on hillsides that are as steep as 45 degrees because the developers couldn't break through the granite bedrock. Why they didn't cut their losses and just resell the lots is beyond me. Even my own back yard is a challenge with a mower and my next door neighbor's front door opens up to a twenty yard decline down to the street. He already cuts his grass with a trimmer, so this could maybe save his back in the long run.

Mine works fine for my uses (and not having to be plugged in I prefer). I got the battery powered weed eater & blower for about $100. Used to use a lawn service that cost about $1,000 a year. This year I decided to get some low cost items to do it all myself. $230 mower (no bells and whistles, not self-propelled, but works great), and the $100 weed eater / blower. So, just this first year saved myself about $670. So far haven't even gone through one gallon of gas either (been mowing since around March - August). I have this one (or an earlier version) and I absolutely love it! My hard has an incline, is cursed with random large rocks semi-buried in the ground, and multiple types of grass/weeds. The gas mower’s blade got completely bent out of shape twice and the gas weed eater is too heavy and large for me to handle comfortably. My Black & Decker weed eater/mower takes care of all of those issues - it doesn’t give a hoot about rocks and can handle the various grasses and weeds. It doesn’t weigh a ton like the gas mower and whacker and is good for my shorter height. And, it’s small so it doesn’t take up a lot of space in the shed. My yard is quite large and if I let it go for more than 2 weeks, it does take a while to do the mowing. So what? I just take sections of yard for a few days. If I keep up with the mowing I can do the whole yard rather quickly. Seriously, I love my mower/whacker combo from Black & Decker!

My lawn is tiny enough that two batteries and an 11" 18v Ryobi One+ mower takes care of it. With the second battery then used with an edger to finish.

This was a great starter kit for a small lawn. Did all three things well. My only gripes are: 1. The part that engaged to hold the trimmer to the deck could be more robust. Especially when it got clogged with trimmings 2. The deck can easily cake with trimmings. Just take a a stick and scrape the grass off. 3. It gets old raking the clippings. After a while you might have to dethatch your lawn. But, I think it does a great job and certainly is a great primary lawnmower for small yards or a good back up to a mower and trimmer.

Ha I actually own this but battery powered! I think it’s a pretty decent budget weed eater and that’s what I was looking to get. I’ve had it for years! I have the mower attachment too but I didn’t get it to mow my whole lawn. It’s just an additional attachment for my weed eater/edger I would use to do spot mowing if needed. I got a bunch of B&D tools when I bought my house because I can use any battery for any device. I don’t use tools all that often. Drill, edger, leaf blower and sawzall are the tools I use the most but not enough to justify buying high end ones. I have more tools but barely use them but I still can use their batteries. I was concerned these tools would just break right away because these are not high quality but nearly 8 years later they all still work. My gamble payed off big!😂

Same here, I put my B&D tools through more than the average home owner and they have done the jobs. Catch is that half of them have been picked up with credit card rewards points. I've got a small yard and the battery weed eater is way better than dealing with my old 2 stroke weed eater. Would recommend.

@GreggyWeggy

@@Beardman56 Nope. It automatically just keeps the line where it needs to be. It's pretty great and should be on every weed whacker if you ask me. Here's what I found about it, "The Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) is the technologically advanced line feed system found on Black & Decker string trimmer products. Using centrifugal force, the system monitors the amount of line being used and feeds more line automatically as the cutting line shortens."
@Beardman56
@Beardman56 Жыл бұрын
@@GreggyWeggy yep it calibrated to a certain length. It lets some out everytime the trigger is pulled an got a little knife that cuts off the excess. It's used on almost every cheap electric trimmer. It's a garbage system for anyone that uses a real string trimmer

For someone living in a 50+ community or apartment/ condo with a tiny lawn this is actually not a bad idea. The mower part keeps it level so you don't scalp in areas but also gives you the option to edge and weed wack. When you're done you can just hang the entire thing on a wall. All for cheap. Actually pretty ingenious idea.

I used to own a B&D NiCad battery powered weedeater and blower. They actually works pretty well for me. I didn't need to cut down anything too thick though, so it worked good for basic weedeating of grass. My house isn't too big, but I needed 2 batteries (and 2 chargers) for it. Mow the back yard, then weedeat. Then charge the battery as you mow the front yard and then use the other battery to weedeat + edge. Then go back to the first battery, which was now fully charged, and use it for the blower to clean up. My only complaint were the batteries themselves. I had to constantly replace them every 2 years because they'd get corrupted and refuse to charge anymore (gave an error on the charger). I began to just buy third party ones off Amazon for half the price. Served my needs ok. The weedeater and blower lasted me about 6-8 years before the weedester just stopped working one day, even with a fully charged battery. I think the motor finally gave out. I also have a B&D battery powered drill that's serving me well. My point is that I wouldn't say B&D is crap. It definitely isn't for heavy duty tasks, but serves the average DIYer pretty well. But that weedeater-lawnmower thing... that's just a dumb idea. Maybe if all your yard consists of is a 10sq ft patch of grass, then sure. Then it'd be a brilliant idea!

Considering his opinion at the end, not so bad in this case. Came in prepared to laugh my head off, but wow. I've seen actual mowers based on string trimmers, but those are big, and "must stand behind" for a lack of full guard. mainly due really tall stuff like mowing where the grass is practically hay. Glad to see this did well. :)

When I moved to a house with I bigger yard I thought I'd upgrade to the battery version and Unfortunately that's thing was a pice of garbage. Bogged down super easily and the battery maybe lasted 20min and too 4 hours to change. Yea the corded version is so much better its not even funny.

Awhile ago I lived at a place with a tiny 'yard' I had to maintain, big enough that if you could park a large pickup truck on it you'd kill off the entire yard. I got a plugin trimmer at a yard sale for cheap and used that instead of paying the lawn service all the neighbors used. Mine didn't have wheels, but I could see how it would be a nice attachment for such a small area.
