For everyone asking about cleaning...I give mine a quick rinse under the tap, and use the supplied brush to get any stubborn hitchhikers. When it's time to do the dishes after dinner, it gets processed through the soapy water very easily. I use mine two or three times a week . It doesn't make the prettiest of slices, to be honest, but making a big family dinner every night ? I don't care if it's not Insta worthy, I want fresh food prepped easily and fast. This giraffe looking thing does the job, very well.

For dicing, don’t cut to make vertical strips. Cut horizontally ( like you would do for scalloped potatoes). Then put those horizontally cut pieces into the pusher to cut for dicing.

@dressedinfire3 ай бұрын
@@uceee1 I think what they meant is to use the slicer to first cut thick slices and then cut those into strips. Basically reversing what is shown in the video. It sounds easier, rather than having to pile up the sticks to get the diced potatoes, you'd put in the slices. Not sure how good that works, but I'll give it a try next time I need diced potatoes or carrots.

Bought this because of your review and I love it! I eat a lot of sweet potatoes and tend to be clumsy with knives. I cut myself often. I was getting scared with cutting so many potatoes all the time so I decided to invest in this. It gets the job done so quickly, everything is evenly sliced, no mess, no fear of chopping my hand off.. it's a wonder product! I've had compliments that the carrots in my home made soups look professionally cut because they're all so thin and uniform slices. @@screamtoasigh9984 i beg to differ, it IS easy to clean as in food safe. You simply run it under hot water pressing the blade up and down to loosen any veg that might be caught in the blade and then submerge in hot soapy water. You can easily see if there is any fragment of food trapped in rhe blades and it is supplied with a small brush to dislodge anything that might get stuck but i have never had to use it. It is stable in use, i have used mine frequently , if you push anything beyond its limits then it can topple. I’ve had a straight blade mandolin with a single blade and replaceable guides for thickness or fries. Similar, but my favorite, was the V Slicer that has two short blades in a v shape, with the same kind of replaceable guides. With both, I was always terrified of slicing my fingers, even using the hand guard. I really like this design because of the designed in safety. That’s a big plus. I like not having to have a bulky tray to hold all the different guides, but this does still has all the pieces that cause storage bulk, so that’s a net neutral. The negative is the design doesn’t allow one to make normal longer fries, but that’s a small issue. A bigger negative is that I wonder how well the various plastic dials will hold up before breaking and making the thing at best a one trick slicer. I think I’d wait to purchase it to see the longevity.
@jessl19343 жыл бұрын
Just a tip: I _hate_ those plastic guards on mandolins because they always seem to slip and fall off. It makes me scared that I'll get complacent and I'll have a slip that will result in a nasty accident. So I bought some cut-proof gloves online. They are made of a nylon weave which has something, maybe steel fiber, as a reinforcement through it. You *will* bruise your hands if you have an accident with a slicer or a knife while wearing one but you won't cut yourself (unless you're using a powdered device). The gloves are easy enough to wash after use - I just hand-wash them in soapy dishwater and leave them out to dry. I figure that as clumsy as I am, it would be foolish for me to not spend a few dollars to save a lot of potential suffering. The amount of times that I've knocked a nice little red smile into a knuckle just using a box grater is proof enough that I needed to get some of these gloves...

It's great that this video comes out hours after my ONCE FOR ALL Mandoline gets delivered, lol. I saw it on KZbin in a TikTok compilation video of gadgets and got a few of the items with this being one of them. Seeing it in action with multiple levels tested was very helpful, especially the dicing function since I have some starchy veggies I plan to cube for a stew. Maybe now I won't have to buy frozen sliced and cubed veggies again for a while, if ever! I absolutely agree that the price for this is a bit high, especially since I (a) will be hand cleaning and washing this device and (b) don't know if it comes with a warranty or not. Had it been maybe $10-$15 less, this would've been a fantastic steal, but I have until the end of January to see how well things go. Thanks for the video! I do have a suggestion for a video: Testing and comparing a Brandless Pro-Blender against a Vitamix to see if it's actually as good as a Vitamix while being significantly cheaper.

@Maninawig2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. I have one and it is a little dicey on the multiples (pun intended). The issue is that potatoes are wet and starchy, so they tend to slide. So, as long as your potato fills in the height, it works, but for bigger potatoes that need to be cut to be inserted, they tend to slide over and bind in the feeder.

Thank you! Last week I bought one of these amazing slicers on Amazon for $33! I wish I'd discovered it years ago. Last year I slipped up slicing a bunch of potatoes and sliced my left index finger to the bone, severed a nerve. Six stitches and now when I touch that finger it feels like hitting my elbow's funny bone. I had a standard mandolin but I didn't use it. I didn't want to mess with the attachments. But, if I'd had this slicer I wouldn't have sliced my finger open. I have found a way to use this new gadget every day for a week. My first job was to slice potatoes thin to make perfect potato chips. It was quick and easy. The next time I made French fries and it too was a success. My only complaint was that I needed to cut my Idaho potatoes to fit the narrow chute. I played with the dials to select the proper function and then sliced and diced cukes, tomatoes, onions, carrots, rutabagas, lettuce, cabbage, and even several hard-boiled eggs to perfection. I likely won't use the tool for eggs, tomatoes, or other soft items again. They were messy. Hard items are best. The clean-up was quick and easy and I have not used the tiny brush yet to dislodge any bits. It rinses clean under the pressure of the faucet and a few swishes in hot soapy water. Voilà!
@brucecoleman74123 жыл бұрын
This is a semi vertical Mandolin slicer with a feed chute. Why I prefer the regular Mandolin slicer: 1) Price. 2) You can slice potatoes lengthwise and get longer French fries instead of what I consider to be French fry remnants. 3) I prefer my scalloped potatoes to be consistently round, not oval shaped. When smaller items are in the feed chute, they can rotate preventing you from controlling the shape of the slice. Mine may not be quite as fast, but I have more control over the finished product.

This just seems like a souped-up mandolin slicer. You still have to use a continuous effort from your arm to use the slicer. On top of that it, it doesn't look that much fun to clean. As the grooves look extremely finicky to actually clean and the blades don't seem to come apart from the plastic housing, so mold and rust could probably be a factor of this. I searched for nearly a year for an item that would help save my hand and shoulder while prepping food (arthritis and fibromyalgia). I ended up with this item: BLACK+DECKER Multi-Prep Slice 'N Dice Food Processor Bundle, and I'm really happy with it. It was $90, but it's pretty intuitive to clean and I've had minimal issues so far. There is a small area between the blade and the top that small shreds can get stuck and some of the wet veggies can get stuck in the shooter going into the bowl, but that's minimal for issues. I overall really like it and it saves my hands. That would be a awesome video for you to do! The Black & Decker vs this slicer vs a mandolin vs a knife..

I bought this a couple weeks ago and really like it. Only thing that bugs me is not being able to dunk it in soapy water. The thing I didn't see you do, is slice one end of all your veg on an angle to roughly match the angle of the food chute before you start. That's what the mfr video says to do. I've used it a lot. I do refrigerator pickles, and I use 3 for the slices. I do the onion slices a bit less. I cut them in half moons. Used it to make little short fries for the air fryer, and a dice for carrots. I find that the carrots are harder for me to push down, but that's just me. I always keep a container of carrot coins and sliced cucumbers in the fridge for snacking. For that, I use a 6 for cucumbers and ~4 for carrots. I've seen someone slice a bell pepper, but can't for the life of me to figure that out. Once it's hollowed out, I'm like???? I like your video a lot. I really appreciate someone using it in the real world.

If you place long diced veg. on table, spread out length ways, push together in bundle, remove feeder tube place flat on table, push bundle into feeder, lean chopper into horizontal position, slid feeder on chopper, raise & begin chopping.

I actually think I prefer a normal mandolin. It's more flexible regarding the way you cut things. Want long chips? just slice the potato lengthwise. Also I think it's a bit dicey calling it safe. Sure it may be safer than a mandolin but I wouldn't consider it safe enough to let kids, small kids that is, use it. If you can get your finger in there kids will try it just to see if they can. However I do like the slice thickness adjustment. I've seen similar on some mandolins and they seem to work well. Question is how easy it is to clean. Someone asked about that in the comments and I agree that it would be interesting to know just how easy it is to clean or if things tends to get stuck in hard to clean places. Also I have to admit to something cringe worthy. Watching one small potato after another being run through the slicer had me barking at the monitor. "Just fill up that chute! With potatoes as small as that you can get three in there are the same time." Yea, not my proudest moment.

I've been working on dehydrated hashbrowns the past few months using a conventional mandoline. I haven't cut my fingers yet but, let's face it, it's just a matter of time. Was getting ready to do some today and saw this listed on a website and came here to see a demo and ran out to grab one. Yes, it's worth the $30!!!! You won't ever cut your fingers on it and risk a trip to the death trap hospitals (these days). You don't need the pusher but a rounded end of a potato against a rounded end of another potato is less effective than the pusher which has little spikes. It makes perfect shreds and slices and is superfast. What took me a half hour before took me 5 minutes (10 lb bag of potatoes). I used a large cutting board instead of the catcher. For the $10 more over the same Starfrit mandolin slicer, it's worth the money by far. You don't have to go super slow to avoid getting cut or hitting the pusher against the blade like you would on the mandolin. As an edit here - this could very well could be considered a "prepper" item. If you are processing vegetables for dehydration or pressure canning for long term storage (in anticipation of food shortages) this gadget will save you a lot of time you can spend on other tasks. Another item to look at for storage is the mason jar vacuum sealer hand pump kits that are now making their way on Amazon. They are very inexpensive, as effective and strong as the Foodsaver mason jar vacuum attachment/kit, and an excellent complement to this slicer.

Hi thank you for the directions. I got mine from TEMU and paid under $15 🤷🏼♀️ (yes! I'm shocked too!) only problem was the direction's were not as good as this video. I still would like to know what the rigid holes are in the lower front of machine. I'm going to try to grate some asiago in there 🤷🏼♀️

The thing I like about this is that it looks very safe. I had a regular mandolin that I threw away because of the danger of actually using it, especially the blade changes.

I found an electric one on Amazon that works just as well and even has grater blades for grated veggies and cheese. Everything but the main part of the unit that plugs in goes into the dishwasher. The major drawback is it only has 3 thicknesses due to only 3 blades.

My roommate, has one similar to this one, it has a larger holding container and has no legs like yours. The slicing and dicing mechanism sits on top of the container.. it doesn't have all those settings that I can recall. Kinda like this one. Quite impressed.

The downfall I see is the size limited feeder shoot and small catch tray. I would love to have seen onions sliced/diced as that's where I've had other items fail (KitchenAid food processor attachment,) really good if you want onion juice, but bad for sliced or especially diced onions.
@gmansplit3 жыл бұрын
Just a regular food processor works great for dicing onions and for tons of other things too. My 14 cup Cuisinart was well worth the investment.
@jessl19343 жыл бұрын
As for the catch tray, I'd probably just use a cutting board or a baking sheet or something similar instead, if I needed to slice a lot of food at once.
@jjbud31243 жыл бұрын
There are a few videos on KZbin about dicing onions. Very fast and easy to do with a knife, no chopping, just a few slices. It's very fast and I don't know why I never thought of it. Diced onions are a totally different "animal" that I think would be easier using a knife.

When I got this unit 2 years ago it was ten bucks less, or maybe it was a Daily Deal. It does an incredible job on potatoes. Success with other vegs are dependent on their shape, as in that ending "outtake" with the carrot moving around. As he showed it's also easy for chopped food to fly out of the small catch container. It's also a massive pain to clean, food bits can get jammed where you can't reach to get them out even with a specialized cleaning brush. All in all, it's a good additional tool to have available.

Bought my first mandolin back in the mid-70s. Been using them since. Yes, I've nicked my finger tips more than a few times. In the mid-80s we attended a small Baptist church in Little Rock. Went to our first pot luck dinner with them, and I made a big bowl of cucumber and onion salad using the mandolin. The folk were astounded about how perfect and uniform everything was sliced. I guess the utensil had not made it that far yet. 😇😇😇😇

Instead of doing the double load to chop things I would recommend just cutting your veggies perpendicular to the blade direction a few times and then loading it up once. Works for my borner slicer and I get chopped potatoes and onions in a single go through.

An ultra-sharp square cleaver 1 piece less than $20 - learn with your eyes shut and get very fast. Blade tilt fingers tucked - matches your best time but not as monotonous, and stores in the drawer. Also does oranges without a sweat.

I wish you would have demonstrated how well it chops onions into bits. This is one of the most common items I use a mandolin for because of the eye irritation you can get from doing it with a knife.

I have one of these and I love it. It can be difficult to clean, but they include a little cleaning broom and I thankfully have a dish washer to run it in to sanitize it. Also, the little ledge that holds it shut broke almost right away so that's a negative.

Nifty but for me one of the best things about cooking is practicing my knife skills and really focusing on consistency and knowing how sharp your knife is and honing it as needed. For those times that I need speed and/or volume its hard to beat a food processor for most things.

I've used many mandolin slicers. A quick spray of vegetable oil usually makes them much faster and easier to use. One big thing is the cleaning. I've had some that were easy and others that were very time consuming. How does this unit clean up? You used to show clean up in many of your old videos. That would have been really helpful here. Keep up the good work 👍

I really liked your video because it showed how to use all the bells and whistles. One thing I did notice was with your 15 potatoes timing procedure. You could have saved yourself more time and less fatigue if you had had your bowl of potatoes next to you instead of reaching across and down. That's just me, though. I do everything I can to get things done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I think the key to making this safer (aside from the blade moving instead of your hand moving) is the angle of attack. I hate using the guard / pusher on a traditional mandolin because it 90 degrees to the blade. That makes slicing carrots almost impossible with a guard even if the guard had a little carrot hole in it (like Starfrit’s earlier more traditional Mandolin). The 45 degree angle of attack with this model should make the guard / pusher much more practical. Also for carrots what I’d do is cut a bunch of short ones with a knife and completely load the hopper so they hold each other in place.
