I have to admit that I enjoy the occasional MRE. It's very different to a normal meal with the functional nutrition bolstered by random treats. Like a mystery meal for one.
For the king of MRE videos visit Steve1989MREInfo at:-
/ @steve1989mre
Many thanks to James for sending a selection of these packs from Florida. It's greatly appreciated.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
www.bigclive.co...
This also keeps the channel independent of KZbin's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

There is Survivalist food, that can be purchased of course, but it's usually Canned and built for much higher shelf life and Stockpiling in a Basement for a long time. As a 5th generation Oregon pioneer, that has visited over 60% of the US, I grew up with french toast, and made french toast for my family for nearly 3 decades. French (Frenched) Toast does indeed mean bread fried in an egg batter. Often in the US the egg batter is eggs, butter and or milk, and in respectable regions also adds cinnamon and nutmeg (sometimes also dried chilis for a bit of kick. In the US French toast is often just used as a conveyance for maple syrup. Also, unless you are in Canada, Maple Syrup likely to be nothing more than flavoured sugar syrup. Why? Because walmart. Again in the more pleasant parts of the US, berry preserves (Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) are also used as a topping for french toast either in conjunction with or as a replacement for aforementioned maple flavoured sugar water. In decadent regions, the bread used is made with berries, and or fruits and or nuts. and now you know :-)

@@veeeks2938 Frank's red hot is just a ready made, cheap mixture of spices any idiot can slather on meat and cook. It's not meant to be anything other than cheap or easy, and it's real big selling point is that you can buy it in multi-gallon jugs. Real restaurants make their own sauce.

Luv your channel Clive, 1 minute your setting fire to your desk, then you give an extremely helpful video on mental health and then your having a feast of chicken burrito ! Talk about a varied menu, excellent as always, I won't use that brill***t word as it's vastly OVERUSED, but I'm certain you get "my drift"......

Burritos are a cylindrical object, about the diameter of the average person's grip, convenient for holding, and folded on both ends before rolling to prevent leakage. Usually use massive tortillas. especially popular in the Southwestern United States, starting to catch on elsewhere. What you made is generally referred to as a "Quesadilla".

Bit late to the party, but the reason for the "long rip" opening, is because you aren't expected to have a bowl as Clive does here. Normally you'd be treating the plastic packet itself as a kind of "bowl" for scooping the bits out for making your burritos (though this looks easier to make tacos).

The US MREs I had used a four digit code for date. First digit being year next three being day of year 8125 = 125th day of 2018 (or 2008 or 1998, refer to package style, they change by the decade) = May 5, 2018.

Also worth noting this is pack date, not expiry date. MREs don't get expiry dates, they get inspected every three years.

Yeah, I always put the heater and everything together before adding water and stuffed that into the bag with spare cardboard around it and the vent only lazily folded into the cardboard. I liked my meals as hot as that thing would get em. Also, the entree bag had a side tear because in the field that is your bowl.

Loved the review but you're supposed to put the main course food pouch into the FRH bag, then add water. You'll find it easier to heat them that way without burning your hands :-)

Those random numbers on the package actually tell you the manufacture date (MREs don't have an expiration as far as I know)! The first number is the last digit of the year, the last 3 numbers are the day of the year it was made. For example, yours was 7234. 7 would mean 2017, and 234 means the 234th day - 22 August!

Sir: for decades the portable ration was the "Combat Ration, Individual" or C-ration as we referred to it. It was mostly in cans and loaded with preservatives, but while it wasn't all that tasty, it would make a turd. In 1981 the first "Meal, Ready to Eat" was made and entered testing. In 1983 it replaced the C ration. Lighter weight because it is not in cans, and a huge improvement in taste and edibility, if there is such a word.

I wonder what would happen if you were to set fire to a flameless ration heater. Considering what it seems to be made of it might react like some kind of thermite. The oxygen absorbing sachets IIRC do contain not only iron powder, but also a pinch of salt to make it corrode faster. I personally like my food to be mildly spicy btw. It seems to make the flavours pop more and add more depth to it.

Clive an observation. There is a pad to heat the meal, but not one to heat water for the coffee. So are you supposed to drink the coffee cold? 🤔
@GunFox
@GunFox 4 жыл бұрын
No. So you are actually supposed to insert the meal into the bag WITH the heater, not on the outside. On the other side of the ration heater element you can put the beverage bag (Still IN the bag with the heater). So everything gets crammed in there. It is a tight fit, but that is the point.

2:14 - I don't think there have been any relevant changes to the UK's knife legislation in the last 60 years (though they did add things like acid to the "offensive weapons" category recently), and restrictions aren't related to the blades themselves, it's all about the opening mechanism. Basically, it's illegal to _import, sell or transfer ownership_ (but not to own) knives with spring-loaded and gravity-operated blade extension mechanisms, unless they only operate after the user has partially extended the blade by hand (i.e., blade extension can be "assisted" but not fully automatic).

FYI a burrito is wrapped into a little pocket, like a spring roll. What you made is basically a soft taco. A burrito bowl is just the filling of the burrito in a bowl (or bowl like container)... sometimees it'll be in a tortilla, basically as if whoever made it couldn't be bothered to roll it... other times it'll be just the filling (for a "low carb" option); it may also be served over some other type of carb (rice, etc), or have tortilla strips or tortilla chips mixed in. Really there's no hard definition as the lines are very much blurred (especially in America), but burrito bowl will almost invariably be burrito filling loose and open in a bowl, everything else depends on the business selling it.
