It's actually incredible how well the original holds up. Yes it has hilariously bad textures but considering how old this is it looks coherent and extraordinarily atmospheric. Gonna play through the remake for the experience but the original was a masterpiece.

I once played the original one on ps2 for about 10 minutes when I was a kid and it gave me the scare of my life and never played it again. I never knew the name of the game until recently. I doubt the remake would ever give that feeling to any kid.

Part of me thinks that that feeling could NEVER be captured by a kid again, just because of the modern gaming industry and kids’ relation to it. Like part of that surreal, otherworldly, “this game actually feels cursed”, experience is contingent on the era and the limitations of technology at the time. Maybe if you set your kid up with a PS2 when they were really young and had them play it before modern games lol

I might be of the unpopular opinion... but I think I like the inferior original a lot more. Simply because it seems to have better atmosphere and this particular art style. Whereas the remake feels generically realistic. If you see things like realistic graphics mods for GTA V, you know exactly what I mean where realism can be more damaging. The OG looks like it had more soul put in it.

It feels like the remake was more worried about realism than keeping that creativity. I've noticed that with a lot of recent remakes, including my beloved Reignited Trilogy for Spyro.

SH2 works better in a dreamy, Analogue-horror like style both for thematic and plot reasons. Making it a blind "authentic" recreation really hurts the story and makes zero sense for James' character arc like he's so self-conscious when he talks now because "this is how authentic people talk in real life"...... James should be the last people I would call self-conscious.

The reason why the original had so much mist was because of the poor draw distance the game was limited to at that time. The developers tried to cover it up with more mist and made the game 10x scarier and eerie. Talk about using your weakness as your greatest strength.

The over the shoulder camera should not have been very consistent and very dynamic like the original. It should have been semi fixed or sometimes fixed depending on location that's what makes the original so scarier. The remake is okay with harder enemies.

Se for pra tirar momentos e cenas originalmente icônicas, criem novas, mas nem isso. Eu ainda fico com a sensação de algo genérico. SH2 não precisava de um remake. Mas se iriam fazer, o que se exige ou é novidade ou respeito aos padrões do original. Decepciona em.alguns momento e sim. Talvez a única boa surpresa seja a entidade que nunca morre (e faz mais sentido), algumas partes da trilha sonora (ter música durante as andanças pela cidade é algo impactante sim) e entrar em locais diferentes e não inclusos no original. Mas de resto, mesmo os gráficos sendo realistas ainda sinto aquela percepção de massinha de modelar típica da engine da Blooberteam. Em alguns momentos faltou trabalhar melhor a própria névoa e a densidade e a localização das árvores ao fundo, para gerar maís insegurança, suspense e medo. E sinto falta de alguns apetrechos e pontos ou momentos inteligentes em termos de psicologia e que ocorriam durante as caminhadas pelo original, coisas sutis.

Damn incredibly disappointed. I think the original is scarier. Camera is too close, details are too clear. Defeats the point of the fogginess and spacing of silent hill, you should feel small and isolated. This feels like a newer resident evil game :( the atmosphere lacks unfortunately for a silent hill game. The room is better than this.

Look up the remake’s otherworld segments, it’s the first time a game has really felt like Silent Hill in 20 years. I seriously think they captured the atmosphere as well as you could in the modern era with HD graphics and all. I had no hopes for this, and now that I’ve played it enough to get the platinum, I honestly hope Bloober does SH4 next
