I use both. Pimsleur for the conversational aspect and Busuu for additional vocab and grammar lessons. It all complements each other. But I knew Busuu was goated when it started teaching me swear words 😂

I've been using the Pimsleur audio only program for over a week right now and its been pretty good, I am about to subscribe to the additional features and see if that helps me more. I had actually never heard of Busuu before, thanks for the video!

Pimsleur sounds like a better fit for me because its more comprehensive and sounds like it would help to get me to an intermediate level, which is what I need. Thank you for making this video!

Excellent updated 2023 Pimsleur v. Busuu comparison. Eduardo appreciates the updated info. Both Pimsleur and Busuu sound like great language learning apps, but Busuu sounds like the best option for Eduardo. Really like the shorter lessons and video clips. John do you ever take TPI videos on the road? Thanks.

I've only used Pimsleur's trial. I found repeating the phrases helpful. It cemented "Je ne comprend pas" in my vocabulary in one lesson.

Wow - your review (very fair) exactly matches my experience with these two. I started with Pimsleur audiobooks and found them very effective. I get compliments on my pronunciation all the time. I'm currently using Pimsleur as my core program with Busuu as a supplement. Some of the Busuu exercises are a little silly and far too easy, but the communithy aspect is great. I'd really like to find an immersion content source. Right now, I just listen to some random German podcasts. I'm curious if you have any recommendations.

Heyo! I quite like the visual aspects of Busuu, if you had a lot of money I think that Busuu used with Rocket or Pimsleur's more audio based lengthy lessons would be a really nice supplementary course. Thanks for the review!

When I first tried Busuu I thought it was fantastic, it didnt take long though to realise that "community" goes both ways. When you try and say as a total beginner in French your occupation and industry and get someone saying "Sorry that is crap", well I almost canned any language study right there. Pimsleur seems really good for me so far.
@TestPrepInsight

yes, it does cut both ways. For sure. Thanks for sharing!

One thing I never see people really address with Busuu is the small amount of content. What they have is okay but there is so little of it. Some of the exercises, like the word scrambles are just filler though, to make it harder to notice how little content there is. Much of the listening has vocabulary you've never learned and a lot of the questions are just a matter of understanding basic conjugations but not really understanding the words.

Busuu is perfect for me because I'm on a tight budget, and I'm already studying with books and audio podcasts, so I can only commit to 15 min lessons to supplement my french studies.

Please tell me the best way of learning French up to a fluent conversational level in 7 months as I will be going to start with my bachelors in Brussels this coming September and I need to be fluent in French before that in order to do part time jobs there which will be essential to my survival there and therefore I request you to kindly guide me to the best web possible to become fluent in French within 7 months within a modest budget.

If I were that pressed for time, here's what I would try - Pimsleur has a $20 app subscription. Use that. The lessons are 1/2 hour long, so do 2 daily, repeating the sentences and being careful of pronunciation. Allow yourself 4 months for that, then get an italki tutor for the remaining 3 months. I know tutors there can be a bit expensive, but if you're doing it for school, it'll be worth it. You'll probably get to almost B2 level at that point. Just keep up that 1 hour daily and you'll probably be quite functional in the language by then.

I really like pimsleur, but it's just too expensive. Busuu in Turkey is much much cheaper (I think just about 8 Euro a year). So I mostly use Busuu.

Personally I feel like Pimsleur would be the best fit for me. This is mainly because of the audio aspect. I value learning the ability to understand native speakers of the language and this it seems Pimsleur has more to offer there.
