Master Cartoon Animator 5: How to Switch Between G3 Character Angles in an Animated Motion Sequence

In my last video I made a character open a car door in a way that wasn't really very natural because I didn't want to make that video longer by also having to explain how to switch character angles. Well one commenter called me out (even though I acknowledge in the video I cheated on the action). This video covers the bit I didn't include on character switching and modifies my original animation so now the character opens the car door more naturally.

That's a really important concept for beginners to realize. It took me a long time to find this out by myself, and it was one of those ah ha moments when I did. You need to use multiple versions of your characters to make more complicated movements possible. Great job helping newcomers to CTA5 achieve the results they are hoping for right away!

Thanks. Yeah, it's not immediately obvious this is how you implement multiple angles of the same G3 when animating complex motions. I don't think the manual even mentions it.

@@animlife That's right. There is no mention of this in the instructions, and I never saw it in any of the instructional videos until this one. Not only how to implement multiple angles, but that you even should, can , or have to do it to get natural looking results. Great job on bringing this up!

@@animlife Good idea! It's a fine point that needs to get out there. I don't remember specifics, but I've also had to use multiple instances of the exact same character to accomplish some movements and effects. There's a lot to this technique that can be explored to get the most out of Cartoon Animator.

As always your videos help a lot. Thanks. I'm having a problem and I can't find a solution anywhere. Do you know how it is possible to use photoshop masks to put embed images inside sprites, just like it is done in the irises of the G3 characters' eyes? A tutorial on this would be great.

Unfortunately Cartoon Animator only supports masks for the eye white on eyes and for the face sprite. You can't use masks anywhere else in your character because they won't work. It would make life a little easier if masks were supported in other sprites however you either have to flatten the masked sprite, or clip the masked area so the mask is no longer needed.
