Today I review the Tetra CustomShield Multi-Pursuit hunting hearing protection with bluetooth. This may be the single greatest hearing protection option on the market for hunters going after waterfowl, turkeys, doves, pheasants, deer, etc. These inside the ear buds are custom fit to your ears and are so comfortable. They enable you to hear everything around you while instantly protecting you from gunshot noise and they amplify the sounds of the animals you are hunting.

This electronic hearing technology is the greatest thing out there. I think it beats every competitor I am thus far aware of like: Walkers, ISOtunes, Howard Leight, 3m, Caldwell, Zohan, Peltor, Cabelas, and more. I have hunted with them through a couple seasons already and am so happy I upgraded from the Tetra AlphaShields to these.

I am one of those hunters who has serious hearing loss. I rarely used hearing protection in the service and until my early 40's didn't regularly use hearing protection when shooting my shotgun. I wear hearing aids to have closer to normal hearing, hear conversations etc. I have tried many types of hunting hearing protectors. Had a pair of custom molded protectors about 25 years ago(i am now 70) . They worked ok for a few years but technology has come a long, long way.Lost one eventually. Mostly i have used Pro Ears gold or Walker razor earmuffs. Walker's are less money but have slightly less protection 33 vs 36 with Pro ears gold. I also find that i have better sound location ability with the Pro gold than i do i Walkers.I hunt waterfowl at least 2 x/week oct-Jan here in oregon so having the best protection for my damaged hearing is a priority. I will check into the Tetras. Thanks for the video( and the Shotshell comparison videos!)

When I was young nobody ever thought about hearing protection. I wish we was smarter back then. My hearing has been damaged and the ringing in my ears is nothing you want to live with. My recommendation is use something. If you can’t afford anything else use the earplugs. The kind that can be on you at all times.

Thanks for the review George. I bought the entry level ones last year for waterfowl. They worked as described. I have a terrible ringing in my ears already, but these help further damage. My only complaint is I can’t really hear my goose call. I may upgrade. Not sure you can complain about the price if it prevents hearing loss and early onset dimentia from constant ringing in the ears. Just my two cents.

@@TheNewHuntersGuide I have the 60’s. I can barely hear gun shots, but can have normal conversations with them, can hear sounds very well. It’s just the goose call that gives me trouble.

George, I want'm, Im pretty sure I need'm (I'm getting to be older than dirt) but @ $2500 - $3500 they are waaay more than the A400 I bought. Even the Multi-Pursuit AlphaShield at $1,599 are very pricey.

Oh absolutely. It's no comparison. The cheaper ones can help you get into something faster, which is fine, helpful even. But as soon as I started using the cheaper ones, it multiplied my motivation to get Tetras.

Thanks for the great review. I don't know why the price needs to be a secret. Also wondering if they will work with your insurance company ?
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide Жыл бұрын
No idea on the insurance, but it's worth asking. Prices and product specs change so often that I stopped saying them in most reviews. I know this video will be live for years, and the prices could change before I even published it. Comparing it to the cost of a shotgun is the best analogy I can find because there are different levels of each and those prices fluctuate too.

I just can’t justify every spending this much on hearing protection. The cheapest thing they sell is $750. It’s as much as the whole rest of your setup. The multipursuit custom shield is $2500 !!! That’s more than you’d need for every piece of equipment for hunting deer (archery and rifle and muzzleloader), Turkey, waterfowl, upland birds, and small game. I can only see these being worth it for old hunters who’ve ruined their hearing with years of hunting without ear pro or for the rich hunter. These are not for regular new hunters to whom this channel typically caters. It would be a lot more useful to try all different sorts of ear pro people can actually afford and let people know which options are a good choice. I’m sure not all muffs are created equal and some solutions punch above their price point. I get you sprung for these and hit it off with the company, but pushing these while not offering a good analysis of different options that you can get for $100 or less is a glaring oversight of this channel. Sorry George, but I just can’t get on board whenever you bring Tetra up. Once they’re around for another decade and they’ll give me a 10 year warranty that I can trust will be honored (because I feel the company will still be around) then maybe I’d consider it. Right now, I can’t trust they won’t get bought out by a big company that wants their tech and will leave me up a creek if I need something replaced in 4 years.
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide Жыл бұрын
Hey, I totally understand. I run a mossberg so I can use these, else I'd probably use a Benneli. To each his own. Use the muffs if they work good for you and don't look back. As long as you are doing something to protect your ears, I'm thrilled. I also appreciate the feedback.
@Snailz5

@@TheNewHuntersGuide it would be nice to do a comparison of different cheap hearing protection options that have pass through. Give all the caveats that nothing compares to Tetra, but it would be nice to know how good some of the muffs or buds work and what’s worth spending money on. Having the context of what the mountain top feels like would be valuable when comparing things. Not that anyone should ever do this, but if you order things on Amazon starting around late October early November, you get until January 31 to return things. That could make something like testing a dozen ear pro devices against each other pretty easy and free minus the time you put into testing and returning. But obviously that would be taking advantage of the policies of a mega corporation that underpays and doesn’t respect the basic human rights of its employees and also pays less than 10% of the taxes they should, and nobody would want to do that in the name of a little consumer-focused science =)
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide Жыл бұрын
@Snailz5 haha, there are some guys that have done just that with the different muffs on the market. I want to get a set actually just to keep in the car for range days ir clay shoots. The Tetra's are better but I am not going to just leave those in the car! I'd like to test more in ear options like you said, but hearing protection videos seem to be my least viewed category, so I'm not sure it's worth wild to put that much effort into doubling down in that area. I have and use the Tetra's so doing a review is easy. But to test and review half a dozen other devices is a ton of work.

I've run Sordin Supreme's and now Swatcom's for almost 20 years. While these may be fine for hunting I wonder how they'd do on a firing line with lots of other short barrel weapons going bang. I've never found in ear protection enough protection around automatic weapons fire or high volumes of fire with multiple other shooters nearby.
@TheNewHuntersGuide
@TheNewHuntersGuide 7 ай бұрын
I use the Tetra's for sporting clays all the time, sometimes standing just a few feet from the muzzle of other shooters and they work great. For automatic rifle or handgun fire indoors or a semi enclosed pavilion, I don't think I own any one thing that provides enough protection for my taste. I would pair plugs with muffs for that.

Look up comparable hearing aids. I recently went down that road some with someone. $4000 per ear with similar technology. Out of pocket cost. You can get entry level Tetras for about $700. If you can't use these, use something else. Else you'll pay alot more in the long run.
