Thanks for video series. I picked up Xenonauts 2 from your recommendation. I am looking forward to the BPL weapons mod for that game, while I wait for Xenonauts 1 to go on sale. The game's got a steep learning curve but I've been liking it a lot.

I would love an event in Xcom where your proliferation of xenos tech destabilizes regions of the world as they fall into internal or external conflict. Like you pull up a list of sellers and risk shifting global balances of power that could lock off or deny regions as they fall into conflict.

19:24 Oh hey, Von Kobra! I have that guy in my current BTAU run! He's currently piloting an Iron Cheetah loaded with C-Pulse Lasers. For some reason, Clan Wolf has a lot of Iron Cheetahs, and a dearth of Dire Wolves. And Ghost Bear straight up hasn't had any Kodiaks spawn in *any* of their encounters. Which is bullshit, because I want my gol durn Dire Wolf.

Out of all those games, I think Crusader Kings 2 (+ DLCs) is pretty dope when left unmodded. Or, rather, most mods I've found were detracting from the experience or adding so little they were inconsequential. Wouldn't mind getting some recommendations, though.

Perhaps a controversial take but I liked the string system for "RNG" in Newcom. You could still reload saves, but instead of just trying the same dice roll until you pass, you had to find a different timeline and different decisions and make them work instead like you were guiding the team to the best possible timeline. Or you don't do that and you play ironman. I didn't like the timed mission or several other elements of it and definitely preferred the more granular original games in a lot of ways. But that one thing made it feel like a violent puzzle game with timelines and that was a cool experience. Maybe not what the developers intended. It was a very solid okay game otherwise but not one I'd come back and replay. The sequel was mostly carried by the TNG cast.

For me, if a game isn't vanilla then I'm not interest in mods to make it fun. And even when the game is fun vanilla, I still don't like mods because then it becomes "what can I add to this" instead "I want to play the game." I'm not knocking people for loving mods, I personally just don't.

I get it. I'm not entirely against them, but I apply them very moderately. A few examples: For the original X-Com games, there are two I like. One is vanilla + bug fixes and a few graphics tweaks. The other is a full mechanics, graphics, and story change to make it an entirely different game with the same bones. Run one or the other, not both. Secondly, there's graphics tweaks and bug fixes for Daggerfall. Thirdly, a graphics overlay for Dwarf Fortress. Most people I know go very heavy on mods, but at that point I lose interest.
