Projections for top Defenses of the 2016/2017 NFL Season. 1.Seattle 2.Denver 3.Arizona 4.Houston 5.Carolina Just because its getting old doesn't mean Seattle shouldn't still be ranked higher coming into next season. 1.Frankly, the amount of $$ invested,number of prime pro bowl/all pro starters 7/11, and cohesiveness(number of games their prime players have had with each other and/or the defensive coordinator) heavily outweighs all other 31 teams and makes this defense historically unique beyond the 4 year scoring streak. 2.Denver is arguably the most complete defense in the league but with a rookie at QB Seattle looks to play fresher in contrast with already superior depth and bench time breathers courtesy of the emerging Russell Wilson. 3. In a passing league it is no coincidence that the top 3 defenses heading into next season also boast the top 3 secondaries. Arizona addressed their only real concern this offseason with Jones and Nkemdiche,pass rush solved.Arizona's offensive edge over Seattle and Denver gives their defense a boost with potential to bolster them ahead statistically. 4.Houston has the most upside on this list simply because of their potential for historic sack production heading into next season. Houston has both the most potential to over and under perform because they are more reliant on fewer players in comparison to the other teams. With an offense on the rise, and the young secondary coming together this defense looks to finally make their mark as a whole alongside the greatest defensive player of our era. 5.Even with the loss of the leagues premier cover corner a heavy majority of Carolina's success was predicated on the performance of the elite front 7 and the pressure numbers show that. Josh Norman is a huge loss but was also a byproduct of what still remains in Carolina. And that includes relief from the MVP on the other side of the ball. On the outside looking in: KC, Minn, NYJ
